It must be some serious shit going on with the Amazon website. In the years I've been using them I don't recall a single outage. All websites go down, but they typically don't go away for hours. It would really be interesting to know what caused the problem and how much money Amazon and all of their affilates are loosing as a result. If anyone has any insight drop me a line or post here. Thanks |

Yeah it did come back but I don't know exactly when. I guess I'll see if there is any press about the incident. |

News reports say the Amazon site was dead in the water for over 2.5 hours from about 10:16 am until about 1 PM PST. The specific cause of the failure is unknown, but inidciation are that the sheer complexity of website is at fault. I've seen no analyst's estimate of how much this outage cost Amazon, but I would put the loss conservatively in the neighborhood of 10's of millions of dollars. Which is peanuts for an Amazon. Amazon is gonna need to get a handle on this 'cause the impact will be far more severe if they are percieved by the capital markets as losing control over their web site. |

I agree, Troy. Perception is everything. Comcast got hacked recently and was down for a while. I don't even use Comcast for email, but suddenly my confidence in Yahoo started to wane a little bit. |

Troy, Maybe they were adding some other features? I guess that's no excuse for failing, but I didn't notice they have a link to this site called Endless Shoes, and it is the bomb! It's got thousands of sharp shoes! Matter of fact I gotta go order some more! Ta Ta! |

Amazon is gonna need to get a handle on this 'cause the impact will be far more severe if they are percieved by the capital markets as losing control over their web site. (Ah, you youngsters. You are used to uninterrupted service in everything. You were not here when the tv stations would go down and all you'd have was that test pattern for hours or maybe days. When the phone lines would go down. When you had like party lines. OLD HEADZ! Talk to me! Tell 'em what it was like when only one person on the block had any tv. When many people didn't have phones or cars. Well, you need to get used to it. Because this is the future. I'll bet we have so many power brown outs and blackouts this summer internet use will be most problematic. |

A_womon, Endless Shoes...hummmm... Let me see if they need any more pushers -- I mean affilate program. Ah Chris, you lived in luxury. Man, at least you HAD a TV on your block. One of my boys had a radio with a twisted coat hanger as the antenna with no FM reception, just AM -- if you were lucky. |

LOL @ FK and A_woman! Myself, I cannot see the appeal of shoes. Just seems like a waste of money--especially since so many women's shoes are uncomfortable, too expensive, too quickly out of style, so poorly constructed, or all of the above. |

Yvette: Interestingly, I didn't get "into" shoes until my separation/divorce. Make of that what you will... Prior to emancipation, I used to buy shoes twice a year, winter and summer, two pair each time: same style, one brown, one black. And I never put any money into my shoes, which is why they needed to be replaced by the time the season rolled around again. So, to summarize: Perhaps your lack of interest in shoes speaks to the health of your marriage! ;-p |

Yvette, FK, I wasn't a shoe-aholic before the last 2 years. I always loved shoes, mind you. I don't know, outfits just look better when your shoes match. But I didn't become addicted until recently. I just kind of fell into it when I started having to go to meetings and events to promote my book and the women were all dressed to the nines! And shoes was sca-reamin! But I ain't gone lie---I LOVE IT!! Hello, my name is awomon and I am a shoe-aholic! HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAA! |

Cynique: See, I'm not a label/designer whore. I don't own any JC's or Manolo. I have two places where I tend to shop for shoes: DSW and this place... http://www.littlesshoes.com/Littles_08/Littles_Shoes.html (I shop at Endless for my half-sister. Birthday, Mother's Day, Christmas...) At Little's, I lay down some cash, but it's all about the cuteness factor. Speaking of SITC (and maybe I should start a new threat for this), I don't get the appeal. I never watched the show until a few years ago, I caught a marathon of it during the wee hours. It was engaging, but I didn't feel like I had missed anything. Any SITC fans here? Now, that said, I have always found Sarah Jessica Parker appealing as an actress, ever since her "Square Pegs" days. |

FK, first of all, it is "and"--not "in." Common mistake. I did watch SATC regularly: I did not have any premium channels, but a friend would tape episodes and mail them to me in bulk. I would then have marathon viewing sessions of several episodes at once. I very much loved and identified with Parker's role. And the Miranda character. (Couldn't relate so much to the other two.) The appeal for me I guess was just plain fun, guilty pleasure, escapism. The shock value was fun, too. At the time, there really was nothing else like it on TV. But the show is not something that I can return to and watch in repeats. Maybe it's the "shock" part--It really is not shocking if you know what is coming. I do not have a strong desire to see the movie, but I probably will at some point. Back to the shoes thing--Until I began talking to women about the show I really had no idea that there were regular women (e.g., non celebrities) who spent $500 and up on a single pair of shoes. That they may only wear for one season. With only a couple of outfits. I just assumed that was all part of the escapist fantasy of the show! LOL |

No way, I like totally loved Square Pegs too! BTW, not so much into Manolo but I do make it a point to treat myself to 1 pair of JC's every 6 months.....Hmmm took place after my divorce as well. Thats very interesting. Also, I own a copy of the "Coffee Table Book" 4 Inches (I put that in quotes because I have a 7 year does not yet appreciate its artistic value so its not quite on the coffee table) This book features various celebs wearing nothing but Jimmy Choos and Cartier Jewelry. The proceeds of the book went to AIDS research. Pretty hot book, it features Kimora, Serena, Kelis, Sarah Ferguson, Posh ,and many more... |

Mochascafe, I googled that book: "4 Inches," right? I assume that refers to the length of the heels? LOL I will provide no links, but gentlemen (and others) if you are interested, the images from the book of Serena and others are accessible with a few clicks from a google search. FK: Dapbackatchu! Very funny Yvettep , thank you but actually, if I can blow a few hundred on Endless Shoes, I could really take some money and splurge on a pair of designer shoes...But I just can't see doing that right now, when I could have 3 cute pair for the price of one! |
