Man, Oprah is truly amazing. She according to sky got over 750,00 people to register for a 10 week online class for A NEW EARTH: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose by Eckhart Tolle Oprah is just like I rememeber her from back in the day. I've been listening for about 45 minutes, and she is doing most of the talking. She is providing more of a resonse to the questions than Eckhart. Oprah ain't changed in the 20 years I stopped watching her show. The web thing she is doing is extremely impressive! I was mostly listening not watching and Oprah mentioned a "Debbie from Harlem" I alt tabbed over 'cause I must know about 6 Debbie's in Harlem. But this "Debby" was from Haarlem in the Netherlands. This foine sister was just one in a crowd of people in a book store in West Hollywood. Honestly, and it may be shallow on my part, but I could give less about the subject matter of the class, but I was overwhelmed by the class -- it was just so well executed. This is the future. Oprah even "preemptied" her web site. If you brought up any of her pages you would be taken to this virtual class. So you could not miss it. Oprah is so powerful it is freaking scary (and sort of sexy - LOL).

Yes, Oprah is a force of nature who is energized by a personal philosphy that works for her. She perptuates her power and prosperity by believing in herself and thinking big. IMO. Wonder if ol chrishayden signed up for these classes. He has fallen under Oprah's spell and could certainly use some kind of a formla to cure his dysfunctional personality. |

So I take it no one here has particpated in Oprah's classes. Perhaps it is the circles I roll in but I've heard very little commentary about these classes. And I don't know anyone who has participated (at least no one is bringing it up). The interesting thing: given Oprah's role as a global phenom, why does she has so little impact on the folks I interact with on a day to day basis. Is it that most of the poeple I deal with work for a living?

Here is an excerpt from a recent thread in which "Sese" weighed in on this subject during an off-topic discussion about new age icon, Marianne Williamson, who has also become an Oprah favorite. "....Never read, but glanced through several of Williamson's books without interest. Her works appear to be similiar to Oprah's current guru, Echart Tolle. Have just about finished his "A New Earth: Awaking To Your Life's Purpose (82 and still trying to figure it out). In addition have sat through two online classes, unimpressed by the author or concepts presented (jaded). However I marvel at the technology available to create the worlds largest classroom, but cringe at the power of one person, Oprah to influence 800.000 people to sign up for the ten week course. IMO the potential for abuse is mind boggling." |

It would seem that your contemporaries are not the target audience of Oprah, Troy. She mainly focuses on white suburban soccer moms and upwardly mobile career women and dysfunction people of every persuasions who feel that she holds the answer to all of their anxieties, - especially if you're lucky enough to be in the audience when she's giving away some really cool stuff. |

Cynique, Sese would defintely fit into my the folks I roll with category Echart's book is in my house. I skimmed it, but have not read it. I was actually inclinded to take closer look given the attention Oprah gave to it (wow, even I'm being influenced by her). Sese is right about the power thing, though I'm not so sure the power is not being abused now...

As Cynique mentioned before regarding the book "The Secret" it's all recycled information from the Ancients. It's nothing new to me. The same concepts can be found in Ma'at (Eygptian) Zen ( Buddhism) Wicca (earth religions) and The Bible ! |

I've read that Oprah is suffering a pretty severe backlash and her ratings have dropped a lot because of her New Age beliefs. Conservative Christians ain't happy about this and they're saying (falsely) that she's trying to start a new Church of Oprah. They want to bring her down. It all started with her coming out in support of Obama. Many white women didn't like that, and now the folks who have wanted to bring her down for some time see an opening and they're going after her. It's unfortunate, really, and I could go on. But I don't need to get started here. Connie Briscoe www.conniebriscoe.com |

I've read that Oprah is suffering a pretty severe backlash and her ratings have dropped a lot because of her New Age beliefs. (To hell with it. It's all bulls*** anyway--I'm talking about the love and affection of a fickle public. See O.J., Michael Jackson, Bill Cosby, Michael Vick, etc. She ought to cash out, take her money and cool it) |
