Somebody needs to let y'all know about possibly the best book EVER for our African-American children! It's called "Charlemagne Mack: Rise of the Queen-Personal Journal 1" and the heroine is a 12-year old black girl from the inner city. I've got two girls ages 9 and 12 who just read it and they both laughed and cried their way through the book. I sat down thinking I'd read just a few pages to see what they liked about it and ended up reading the whole book in an evening! This book is IMPORTANT, y'all 1)because it's a magical fantasy that has mostly black people fronting the story, 2)because the lessons are so very important to our children in today's world 3)the voice is SO ORIGINAL it makes me cry! The author is Stephen M. Jones and he could be the J.K. Rowling for black children! I can't tell you how EXCITED I am about this book. Get it, read it and let's talk about it.
