I introduced myself to Terry Mcmillian (http://aalbc.com/authors/terry.htm ) yesterday. Sure, I've attended a bunch of events where she was present, but this was the first time I ever spoke to her.
I told her about AALBC.com and she was like; “Hey are you the one with one of those, those… “Discussion Boards”, I volunteered. “Yes!” She replied. She then asked the classic question, I’ve been asked scores of times before: “You are not Thumper, are you?”
I told her I was not, she then told me how she printed out some stuff from the boards and wanted to post her comments. I did not probe into why she did not do so. If would have been interesting ‘cause Terry is definitely not one for biting her tongue.
It is the ones who don’t bite their tongues AND actually know something that make the most interesting posters.

LOL. As I recall, we really took Terry over the coals while discussing her eccentricities especialy in regard to the divorce proceedings between her and her out-of-the-closet husband. |

I cant wait to meet her at the book club convention next summer. It's going to be so exciting to be around the book world's "elite".
And it never ceases to amaze me how many famous people read these boards! |

Yeah I guess y'all were pretty rough on her (note: troy's clever use of the word y'all distancing himself from the fray).
I'm surprised Terry even spoke to me after learning I faciliate this joint 
People (celebrities or otherwise) read these posts because some of one actually pretty smart.
Thumper's opinion is widely respected because he is what one would deescribe as a "good reader" and he gives you an honest assessment.
Another prominent person in the industry told me last night that if Thumper were white with the same influence in the majority environment he'd be as prominent as any reviewer.

Cynique I just noticed your version of the McMillan letter posted here. I deleted it because showed the email addresses of the recipients, which I would not presume that they want to be made public.
Of course I fully realize that they were being circulated all over the internet before you posted it here... But just in case.

Chris, You know that is a good question.
But I do have a photo with Thumper and I in it together. I will pull it out of the frame it is in, scan it, and post it on this discussion baord for your benefit.
I believe it is the only shot I have that we are in together and this shot is a few years old.

A_woman, you may be speaking about a shot I have not seen.
Here is the photo from BEA 2002 (LA, I think too lazy to look it up right now).
This was actually a group or folks who worked with Earl Cox's writersandpoets.com. The authors shown include K-Elliot, Brenda Thomas, Lynnette Khalfani.

Thumper certainly looks like he could hold his own with anybody who wanted to pick a fight with him about a bad review. His face, however, has great symmetry, which undoubtedly accounts for him having an artistic balanced mind. |
