I just found this article below from the Backlist. Now some of you may have noticed the Diva's of literature tour banner on this site and the AALBC.com homepage. I have a ton of respect of Renee Flagler (http://authors.aalbc.com/renee_flagler.htm), organizer of the Diva's of literature tour, she is creative, and hard working. The rest of the authors are also serious and did not deserve the slight. I was realy disappointed to read the quote below by Wendy Williams (http://authors.aalbc.com/wendy_williams.htm) host of a popular nationally syndicated talk show. If someone pays for promotion don't take their money then say crap like this... Can't Stop the Divas Written by Joy Peyton The Divas of Literature Tour, which began on Aug. 4 at the Kings Plaza Shopping Center in New York, got off to an interesting start when, on Aug. 1, the radio host of WBLS Wendy Williams deviated from her pre-written paid promotion of the tour to imply that the tour was poorly organized and said, among other things, "...hopefully the divas will even show up on time." Now wait a minute. People pay for reviews here (a form of promotion) yet some of the comments are not to their liking. The only question is, did, Ms. Williams lie, because if she didn't she might be rendering the divas a service by gettin them to tighten up their game-- I might add that I might not feel this way if I was one of the divas and had paid my dough, but there it is-- |

What a clever idea for a book tour--a la "queens of comedy." The more publicity the better, I say. (Case in point: I hadn't heard of it until this flap w/Williams.) As for "...hopefully the divas will even show up on time"--isn't not showing up on time part of what being a "diva" is all about? |

And wouldn't Wendy know since she is a diva of all times? LOL Sometimes Wendy can really be acerbic. Did I spell it right? Or even use it properly? Wouldn't want Wendy to to blast me next. LOL |

Bookgirl being blasted by Wendy is typically viewed as a good thing a la no publicity is bad publicity. I just think if someone pays you to read from a script you should read the script. Chris, The "Divas" did not pay for a review. The paid for advertising. These are two very different things. Chris keep in mind advertising can be free or purchased and reviews can be free or fee based. The priced charged does not change one into the other. Yvettep, I thought it was a creative idea too. There are similiar tours going on as well. There is a tour taking place in the midwest with Black authors going to Walmart stores. I don't recall the name os the tour. |
