I write nonfiction books and publishers are always looking for a "name" to write the intro. It is not easy for a lowly writer to get much love from famous people. Any thoughts? |

What kind of famous people are you trying to get to do it? That is, you might try to go outside the writing field. Other than that, try to line up somebody before you write the book (that is, send them a manuscript, work them into it, etc) Find people who are mentioned in the book or who advocate a stance in the book or who have an expertise that is in the book. Finally, you can always do a quid pro quo. I will push your book--or write an intro for you (or do something else--maybe land them some world series tickets or a dinner with Troy Johnson) in return for it.

Robynmarie one word Network. I assume you need a famous person in the field you are writing in. Get to know more people. Attend events, volunteer to speak on panels, organizations. Presumable who will be networking in a field that you are interested in (since you are writing a book in the field), so this should be fun. Over time you get to know the famous people diretcly or be one person removed. Indeed some of the people you people along the way may "blow up" and you will have had a relationship with them... And sure if me having dinner with someone will get you an intro by all means ;-)

Networking is always the best way. A sista needs to rub some serious elbows. |
