Borders Business Plan Gets a Rewrite It Will Reopen Web Site, Give Up Most Stores Abroad, Close Many Waldenbooks http://aalbc.com/reviews/borders.htm Content on this page was obtained from the Wall Street Journal online. They actually freely share the video -- makes a lot of sense, though I don't see this continuing very long, but as long as it does... There were also some interesting data on book sales by distribution outlet and more.

I’d be interested to hear from other independently-published authors about this issue. For me, Borders closing stores doesn’t really affect me. My self-published books are in their system for readers to order for purchasing but they wouldn’t stock them on shelves after I contacted corporate and sent them two review copies. Then there are a lot of traditionally-published authors who have a problem being stocked in the itty-bitty African-American sections of the stores, if stocked at all. I tend to do best selling my books to libraries, independent bookstores, and individuals at conference signings or through my own website. The chains are a tough nut to crack. I think Borders is right on in handling their own online store instead of parterning with Amazon. Online purchasing is THE thing. Even people with bad credit can now purchase Visa and Mastercard gift cards to buy online. Everyone can join in the online experience. Plus sites like Paypal are making it even easier to handle transactions online without even having a credit card by using online checks.
