The Seduction of Mr. Bradley by Minnie E. Miller This is her second book and she writes outside of the box. An energized senior at 70; she may well be the Dorothy West of our era. Check her out at: www.millerscribs.com

There isn't a lot of recent Black lit on here--is there a reason? (For myself I am going to read Edward P. Jones All Aunt Hagar's Children in the next week or two--other than that the reason I am reading Dead White Men is because no recent Black book has tickled me fancy. |

Not "new" Chris but I enjoyed Tananarive Due's Joplin's Ghost and just started a book I was given: Somebody's Someone by Regina Louise. It's a black girl fighting to get out of the foster system intact story. The writing in the first few pages seem to be "real" - I'll let you know how it is. I read a couple of the stories in All Aunt Hagar's Children but didn't really get into them so I put it down for a while.

Currently on my nightstand: "When Affirmative Action was White" by Ira Katznelson This book details how Black Men where screwed out of receiving GI Bill privileges after WWII, and how those very benefits contributed to the wealth that many whites enjoy today. Currently in my travel-bag: "State of Emergency" by Right-Wing Redneck Pat Buchanan This book details how illegal immigration is ruining our nation. By my hot-tub: "White Men Can't Hump VOL. II" Which discusses stereotypes, music, uncle toms, and how to make a woman feel all warm & fuzzy inside. (W.M.C.H. VOL. I is too deep for tub-side reading) |

I'm embarrassed; I have not read a novel since my labor day vacation. Those novels were The Legend of Quito Road by Dwight Fryer which was nominated for a 2007 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work from a Debut Author. I also read another very decent book They Tell Me of a Home by Daniel Black Lately I've been skimming non-fiction works and other books I've been sent in the mail. China-b my wife and I have so many books on our night stand -- she just brought a book shelf for our bed room. Cynique what do you think about Life After Death?

In answer to your question, Troy, Deepak Chopra is a very brilliant guy and he breaks down all of these quatum physic theories and merges them with the mystical aspects of the the Eastern religions, throwing a little reincarnation in the mix and makes a very plausible case for life being eternal in some form and on some level, as in water, ice, and vapor all being different forms of the same thing. Everything he has to say resonates with me. This book really has no beginning or ending so I just treat it like a bible and read chapters of it every time I feel like it. |
