AWARD WINNING INDIE FILM BROTHER TO BROTHER TO BE RELEASED ON DVD JUNE 14 Starring Anthony Mackie and Roger Robinson With Daniel Sunjata as Langston Hughes and Aunjanue Ellis as Zora Neale Hurston LOS ANGELES, CA – Widely-acclaimed Black indie drama BROTHER TO BROTHER, from African-American filmmaker Rodney Evans will be released on DVD June 14, 2005 by Wolfe Video. Starring Anthony Mackie and Roger Robinson, Evans's drama explores a modern Black artist and the inspiring legacy of the Harlem Renaissance. BROTHER TO BROTHER is the inspiring story of Perry, a young black artist kicked out of his family home for being gay. Trapped between the worlds of the black community and the gay community, Perry searches for a connection in the real world and discovers Bruce Nugent, a poet/painter from the queer edge of the Harlem Renaissance. Bruce exposes Perry to the legacy and hardships of pioneering black artists, such as Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston and Wallace Thurman. Acclaimed young actor Anthony Mackie (Million Dollar Baby, She Hate Me, 8 Mile) stars as Perry and veteran character actor Roger Robinson portrays Bruce Nugent. Duane Boutte (Stonewall) plays the young Bruce Nugent in the evocative flashback scenes of the Harlem Renaissance. Daniel Sunjata (FX's "Rescue Me," Broadway's "Take Me Out," and one of People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People) co-stars as author Langston Hughes, Aunjanue Ellis (Ray, Undercover Brother) is author Zora Neale Hurston, and stage actor Ray Ford plays Harlem Renaissance editor Wallace Thurman. After winning the Special Jury Prize at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival, BROTHER TO BROTHER went on to collect many top festival awards and rave reviews, ultimately receiving 4 Independent Spirit Award nominations.
