Oprah, is right: who, that was around 50 years ago, could have imaged that 50 years later a Black female billionaire would be hyping a Black presidential candidate in South Carolina and being cheered by white folks... Step out of your box y'all.

cheering is not voting... We'll see what happens come election day, if all those good white folks choose a black man as the leader of the free world. |

"Oprah, is right: who, that was around 50 years ago, could have imaged that 50 years later a Black female billionaire would be hyping a Black presidential candidate in South Carolina and being cheered by white folks..." Bro Troy, that is so true! Excellent point. Such an event for our parents and grandparents would have been unimaginable -not in their wildest dreams. As difficult as it is for some to recognize and except, some things have changed.

People shouldn't forget that 35 years ago in 1972, a person who was both black and female ran for president. Her name was Shirley Chisholm, and she nominated by Jesse Jackson, - a thousandaire. Chisholm was from New York and was the first black woman elected to congress. Oprah has really turned Obama into a rock star. That could precipitate a backlash. But if he wins, her chances of becoming an ambassador to some African country is assured. And I wouldn't be surprised if Obama wouldn't bestow on Hilary the consolation prize of being secretary of state, - a job worthy of her "experience". |

And just think: if it hadn't been for slavery, a black man wouldn't have a shot at becoming president of the most powerful country in the world.

And just think: if it hadn't been for slavery, a black man wouldn't have a shot at becoming president of the most powerful country in the world. (Maybe if it hadn't been for slavery it would have happened already. Apparently in Mayberry it has not been accepted that it is wrong to own another human being--no matter how you treated them, though I do not imagine that the slavemaster served his chattels breakfast in bed and said "please" and "thank you"--I suppose in your dream world where you are Scarlett O'Hara and you are making love to Clark Gable anything is possible How sick can a Negro get? Oprah, is right: who, that was around 50 years ago, could have imaged that 50 years later a Black female billionaire would be hyping a Black presidential candidate in South Carolina and being cheered by white folks... Step out of your box y'all. (Who gives a crap if he doesn't win? He can join all the other losers in the has been column- Apparently we are still ready to settle for "close" and "tried"--which is what those who have organized this farce are counting on so you can forget how black folks were done in 2000 and 2004. I wonder if, when somebody owes you money, it suffices for them to say, "Well, I tried to get it for you?" |

Ah, yes, the Africans were chomping at the bit to immigrate to this country. And of course they wouldn've been welcome with open arms. Yea right. The only way they could get to America was to be brought here kickin and screamin. But of course this is a line of thinking your brain can't sustain crissy because your mushy mentality can only process conventional ideas that dwell on sentimentality instead of reality. |

And talk about a self-hating negro, crissy. You'd cry in your beer if Obama won. You're so busy sniveling about how admirable the inner city residents are that the idea of black success blows your simple mind. |

Now, you just had the white folks give a Negro two years in the pen because he was fighting dogs. Go ahead, explain it away, and then I get another and another. Let Troy feel good. It's Christmas. After the primaries are over we'll be back down to gritty reality. You're the one who will hate it if a black man becomes President.) |

You don't know shit, chrishayden. Have you ever ventured long and far away from that provincial little one horse town of St. Louis? For every Michael Vic there's a Michael Jordan. And your boy OJ benefited from being judged by a jury of his peers. You seem to be in denial that Barak Obama was, after all, elected senator. Black Americans are not totally denied opportunities, much to your regret because you thrive on pointing out the failures instead of the progress. Every time a black person makes a break-through, this deflates your need to prove you are smart and everybody else is dumb. Your patented rhetoric has become boring. I will have no problem whatsoever with an Obama victory. Why would I? I'm the one talking about the ultimate destiny of black folks in America.

"Now, you just had the white folks give a Negro two years in the pen because he was fighting dogs." No...White folks gave the Negro two years for lying in a federal inquiry. Everyone else who lies to the feds gets jail time also. Those are the rules. I just explained this. Maybe you should read my post again.

I just heard a really good radio show about Senator Obama. Three black commentators, one of them was Shelby Steele. Things that struck me were: -The African Americans who support Barak are the ones who came up like him, in a white world, attending white schools, upper middle class. Working class, lower middle class black folks ain't feeling Senator Obama, according to the authors -White people under 30 see in the world in more global terms, so that someone like Senator Obama is an extension of a multi-cultural universe they are accustomed to. -In America we still live in segregated worlds, and that the most time any white person spends with a person of another race is at their job. My question is this: if we still can't live together, how is Senator Obama going to bridge that gap? Which goes to the larger issue of Senator Obama can skate on what he represents for now, but sooner or later he will have to define himself. Whatever he says, he is going to pi** some people off. |

Very interesting. I just can't formulate an opinion about all of the "laps" and "relays" of this presidental race. So I am taking a spectator's seat and am going to simply sit back and watch history unfold. Will winner take all? We'll see. What ever will be, will be. |

They did not talk about the polls. It was more about the Obama phenomenon. Even Shelby Steele who named his book "Why Obama Can't Win" thinks there is a chance that Senator Obama will be the nominee. Steele says Obama will have to define himself and that for the time being people like what he represents, more than his policies or beliefs. I am not a huge Shelby Steele fan but today he was making sense. He said Senator Obama is a "bargainer" with white people. That is Obama acts in a way that says, "If you vote for me, I won't make you feel guilty about past transgressions, the way Jesse and Al do." It's a message a lot of black people don't trust. |

I just heard Oprah say in an interview that she was insulted that people thought she was backing Obama because he was black. To me, that tarnishes her endorsement because obviously she doesn't want to alienate her white fans. To me, Obama doesn't have enough going for him for a black person to vote for him for any other reason than that he's a brother, and it's our turn to have a bumbling president. |
