At one time I would have not even posed such a question, but it seems to me that there has been a surge lately in opinion that Slavery was a good thing and that we ought to be glad that our ancestors were brought here, bred like rats, worked from dawn to dusk at no pay, sold like shoes, beaten, raped, tortured--well I could go on and on but some self loathing Negroes might be getting a little horny. So what is it? Was slavery a good thing? Are you glad it happened? Would you want it to happen again? Let's hear ya, folks out in Cyberland! |

"At one time I would have not even posed such a question, but it seems to me that there has been a surge lately in opinion that Slavery was a good thing and that we ought to be glad that our ancestors were brought here.........." Well, defending slavery and being happy about it is not the same as being glad you're American. You might consider making the clarification. Just a suggestion....

Good ol faithful "enchanted" who can always be depended on to spout the views of the twin she's joined at the hip with, having forgotten how color struck her role formerly called for her to be, as she boasted about wanting her sons to marry light-skinned women in order to make things easier for her grandchildren. Just crawl on back to where you came from "enchanted" and stfu. You and your mentor are the best arguments in the world for the extinction of your ilk. Me, I'm old enough to thumb my nose at those who don't want the boat rocked. I'm done with echoing the party line, through with being enslaved by conventional "wisdom" and maudlin histrionics. Slavery entails being owned by another person. How the person who owns you treats you, varies from case to case. All ya flannel mouths always droning your cliches about house niggas being treated better than yard niggas, and how if the field niggas wanted to try and escape they got their asses whupped, don't seem to realize is that this testifies to the fact that all slaves were not treated the same And I don't give a good shit about chrishayden's or anybody else's opinion on this subject. I remain convinced that slavery in America was all part of a Grand Plan. It's not about the words "good" or "bad" it's about the reality of Destiny! The involutary exodus of Africans to the new world spawned a unique resilient breed of people whose day is yet to come. The agony of the Blues and the estasy of Jazz are significant. I can picture chrishayden's apoplexy now and I'm lovin it. He and "enchanted" can both go and take a flyin leap. |

Me, I'm old enough to thumb my nose at those who don't want the boat rocked (YOU'RE old enough to thumb your nose at those who DO! Hahahaha!) How the person who owns you treats you, varies from case to case. (It is well settled in everyplace but Cynique's mind that owning another human being is degrading and cruel enough. Why, otherwise, would we be talking about "controlling husbands and boyfriends" You just screwed up and insulted an entire race of people, Cynique. Sometimes you have to admit it and apologize and move on.) It's not about the words "good" or "bad" it's about the reality of Destiny! (In that case you won't mind if we sell your silly old arse to some camel herder in Darfur. Grand Plan! Young folks, when you wonder why Black People are in the shape the're in, it's because you had silly Negroes--sorry Cynique--silly WHATEVER THEY ARES--like Cynique talking like this. White folks naturally thought Negroes who didn't like getting dogged out was crazy!)

BTW, I notice you couldn't come up with any kind of a response to these cogent words of NTFS: "Well, defending slavery and being happy about it is not the same as being glad you're American. You might consider making the clarification. Just a suggestion...." You can't reply to NTFS's request, chrishayden, because your stultified brain is wired to think only one way; it cannot process reality or decipher abstractness. Just like the the fat folds of your moon face prevent you from having any periphral vision. You only see what's in your myopic line of vision. tsk-tsk.

WHO WAS LOUIS LOMAX? From the FBI's files on him, he was arrested and found guilty of a Confidence Game. Lomax did not want some of the FBI's facts on him to be known, especially the fact that he was a minister and in prison. The FBI has an extensive file on him. That file is an interesting profile of white American men's obsession with Black men sleeping with white women. [See FBI Files on Lomax are an interesting read!]

"And what does this have to do with Lomax preferring to live in America instead of Africa after visiting there??" It has nothing to do with it. But as you know, there are hysterical Negroes who will rant and rave against anyone who dares to question their grossly misguided idyllic fantasy of the so-called "Motherland". Look what happened to Keith B. Richburg and Bill Berkeley for writing about their experiences and what they saw in Africa. Negroes lost their minds at their scathing indictments of brutal intra-African racism, extreme violence and mass killings of other black Africans, ruthless oppressive African dictators, extreme nepotism, tribalism and genocide against ethnic and political advisories. But according to the ideology of bro Chris, Richburg and Berkeley are self loathing Negro proxies for the white man. And there ya have it.......

This is sad. Slavery comes in many forms..and some are very personal...individual self slavery for whatever the reason. And I also see slavery in the perverted idea of 'the american dream'. An idea that has spread throughout most of the world. It's a for real game of 'monopoly'. Wallstreet is a big player. Cynique...I don't know if it's destiny...was slavery of that magnitude inevitable? Are any atrocities? Predetermined...obviously, yes. All self serving. Was it worth it for the music? I don't feel that's what you are saying. I hope not. Making soul food and soulful music from what others considered slop and evil heathenish ways. That they dance to, buy, perform and eat.. We are here because our ancestors survived..and not without grief.. I want to rock my own boat..to be fully awake...or I will surely drown. From oral to written history, there has been worldwide warfare..tribes against tribes, religion against another religion...., slavery and the rest of it. I've read that the traditional peoples lumped as a group and called 'Bushmen' by Afrikaners and the 'Little People' of the Congo forests have no words for war, hate...i don't know if this is totally true as I've never met any...and they are frowned upon by 'Negroes'...too 'primitive'...and used as 'cultural interests' like museum exhibits. And it goes down the line. What's the matter with us? Human Beings. I'm wondering if we are inheritently crazy..and we struggle against it in our own ways or succumb and play monopoly...all across the board.

Destiny doesn't always have to be instantly fortuitous, Canary. Why weren't things in place for slavery to not happen? For of you religious folks, what's wrong with this picture? Where is God in the slavery equation? Is He missing? Or did our maker instead want to transplant Africans in the promised land, - put black men in the mix with red ones and white ones as part of a grand experiment. (And it's not so much about the music as it is about what inspired the music. Music that was already in the stratosphere, just waiting to be channeled by special people.) Obviously, I don't direct my ideas to those who are afraid to exlore infitinite possibilities, who want to judge a broad spectrum from a narrow point of view. I only seek to commune with those who are philosophical in their perspective. Is slavery, per se, good? No. But does the end justify the means? Maybe. The slave descendants in America are still a work in progress. Maybe a great destiny awaits them. Maybe. Maybe Obama and Oprah are signs of things to come. Oh, Oh! If indeed the Destiny of slave descendants does not turn out to be fortuitous, then take this up with your God. Or do what I do. Shrug your shoulders and shift into a "and so it goes" mode... |

I left out any referance to 'Creator', 'God' or whatever one wishes to call the Mystery..because we don't really know much..on purpose. I'd like to...make sense of all of this. Beautiful, wondrous, brutal and impermanent. Free will has been given amongst other gifts. What we do with them..or don't...is up to us. That's just my take on it. What experiment? is 'God' stupid or a sadist? I don't think so. Promised land? What promised land? The one that is so often referred to for the Israelites? Irregardless, Cynique I think when it comes to people of Color.... especially here...it is symbolic of equal rights. Gotcha on the music..beautifully thought and written. I've been wanting to say that your writing and opinions are so very well expressed. I noticed that when I began reading the boards some time back...even your scathing posts. Dr.Hayden...is that what he wants to be addressed as? lol...is...you have to admit..sometimes a very clever writer. Please excuse my simplistic writing...since chemo, I have lost vocabulary, short term memory is alarming....etc. Although suspicious..i still have hope. I may be long gone before......but the young, the children, this Earth..the Creation. I'm not sure if I want to be here to see..the end justifying the means.....hasn't been good many thousands of years. With high tech, so much more damage is done. And possibly will be more so if the environment doesn't do life on Earth in first. Yet, there are the positives. More...not enough... people are waking up. Doing...not just talking...Especially within...and seeing beyond the distractions, delusions, illusions and the rest of the sell jobs...as long as fear does not overcome.

Well, you're a philosopher and you don't know it, Canary. But when we talk about the gift of free will I do have to wonder who granted this gift and how at odds it is with the expectation of the gift-giver demanding to be worshipped. And, America was the promised land for those who fled here from other countries to escape oppression. For black people who were brought here against their will, achieving the promise is, indeed, a challenge, a test. Maybe if the challenge is met and the test passed, those who overcome will be the most strong. And the fact that as far as we have fallen, we are still around, might be a positive. I agree that we don't know the answers to the mysteries of life. But contemplating the reality of truth and the truth of reality is what I like to do in the leisure and twilight of my years, something that can become quite intriguing when exploring the concept of "good" and "bad" being relative. And I just like to be a free thinker, just like to wing it sometimes, just to make people uneasy about their entrenched beliefs. Rest assured, however, that I do respect your opinion because what comes through your reflections is the impression of an intelligent, introspective, gracious person, qualities I admire. And I hope you prevail in your personal struggle to overcome what is challenging your health, and that no noxious gas will be present in the coal mine our dear "Canary" is being sent into to test. Yes, chrishayden is quite the wordsmith. He also runs rough shod over people who don't share his sentiments about everything, something that invariably prompts me to react more in contempt than in awe. And so it goes.

Philosopher.. I've been called a number of things haha but not that. Thank you for your kind and gentle words, Cynique. When I logged onto the computer last night, I read your post and was lost for words and on top of that...I was teary a bit from watching a documentary on 1968. The Nam war, Dr.King's and Bobby Kennedy's assassination....and on and on. Talk about contemplating on truth and the truth of reality. Oh...THAT promised land. This stolen land. Another case of the oppressed becoming the oppressor..generally speaking. Keep talking, Cynique! You obviously enjoy tipping over people in leaking canoes haha. Now..what's this about a 'surge" of opinion that slavery was a good thing? Who said this? The gift of free will....I often wonder watching non-humans as I do, if a number of them also have this 'gift'. Maybe all. Thinking...not running on base instinct alone. Who, what 'gave' is a mystery but can't you feel it? See it in eyes? Creation? Love. I am thankful. That's enough for me. I don't know any kind of 'God' that demands to be worshiped. Now that's part of my reality. That 'being' to be worshiped and who is vengeful...if that is the truth which I seriously doubt and do not know 'it'...is churned out in a number of religions and beliefs. That's a control trip in my opinion. I've also been told that this is 'God' dreaming...if so then then 'God' better wake the up cause this is a surreal nightmare. This world is one of duality. The art of living is for me being in balance..and that's not always so easy..not for me anyway..yet it is when it happens. Sorry to hijack your thread, as they say, Chrishayden. If you could...Can you post where you found those opinions that slavery was a good thing? Canary...trying to find her way out of the coal mine ..(smile) |

You should post more often, Canary, and share your widsom with us. I don't think anybody ever said that slavery was good, but this east Indian guy wrote a book and said something to the effect that slavery was not as bad as it has been portrayed. I'm inclined to think that the first 200 years were the hardest. . And since Reconstruction provided very little in the way of alternatives for the liberated slaves, freedom wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Your mentioning that this existence is all something our creator is dreaming is an idea that has always fascinated me. There is a cult (ACIM) that believes we are dreaming our own lives and that when we die, we wake up. These are the kind of things that excite my imagination. And yes, God is Love. |

Believe me, Canary, kissing my butt is far preferable to kissing enchanted's lying ass. The troll she represents in a long cast of stupid characters is so preoccupied with color that she wants her sons to marry light-skinned women. Then she tries to do damage control by saying light-skinned women are black when her alter ego kola-nut boof says light-skinned women are unauthetic blacks who should be kicked out of the race. |

Enchanted...you are not enchanting at all. You don't know me..this is the internet. Kissing anybody's ass is something not in my genetics nor conditioning. Quite the opposite. One of my flaws is that i have a volcano temper and nowadays little tolerance for bullshit. I now normally will walk away..or pay no never mind. But right now?.... Was I talking to you? Coon? enchanted-not! What is wrong? What's the matter? So you like light skinned..how about some naturally straight hair too..I'm Black, Cherokee/Choctaw and Japanese...my birth certificate says Black though! Am I appropriate? Maybe I'm not light enough lol. I'm too old so only joking. Hmm..I might get flamed, slammed or whatever it's called here for speaking of my racial mixture....but i've heard it all..and from Black, Brown, White, etc. all my life. (One of the best and creative was when we moved up north..i didn't have any trouble from people of color down there... it was country and we lived country and poor..I never knew it though...we never starved with growing our own foods and collecting in the woods...and neighbors helped one another...anyway, up north...this young very light skinned kid called me a 'niggernese'. And he put a knife to my throat one day right in front of our house. That was after he punched the wind out of me. I had to learn to fight. Why he was like that I don't know. We much later became friends. We never talked about it. Maybe he got shit for being light and took it out on me. His teeth were rotten, clothes dirty so maybe he was a neglected child as well.) Sooooo........ass kissing is not my thing. I DON'T CARE! By the way..since you haven't been paying attention...I didn't know who said that about slavery being a good thing. So asked. Cynique....one of my cousins is a JW. She says that people don't die. We go to sleep. Those that are believers or whatever the terminology...wake up into a brand new beautiful peaceful world. when the end times comes. Non-humans too..and all is peace. As long as you are a JW. It is fascinating the idea that we are dreaming this whole thing. Sometimes I think that we go from one place to another. According to our needs to evolve. I don't know. Yet intriguing. Could be. Our minds are powerful. It may be true that we create our own realities..and collectively. The Indigenous People of Australia speak of the 'Dreamtime'. Oh yes...'God' is Love! |

And Chrishayden....you said there is a "surge" in opinion that slavery is a good thing. That implies a number of people.
