| Time to stop all the dying Philidelphia Iquirer By David Aldridge Inquirer Columnist If you want to debate which quarterback is best for the Eagles, please, go read somebody else. This morning, I don't give a damn. My concern today is not whether Donovan starts Sunday but whether Dontae down the block is going to be alive in a year. Black men, I need your attention. This means you, Jimmy Rollins. Mr. Cosby, give me a minute. I'm talking both to Beasley Reece and the guy who drives the downtown bus. Will Smith and the electrician fixing the wiring at City Hall. The pastor at the Baptist church. The waiter at the Capital Grille. The pilot behind the stick of the USAirways flight this morning. The teacher in West Philly. The barber in the first chair. Mayor-elect Nutter. The 14-year-old who thinks no one believes in him. The painter. The convict. The gay guy. The sergeant just back from Iraq. The lieutenant who is going next week. All of you. Listen up. I'm tired of seeing young black men go into the ground. Tired of seeing lives ruined by guns, and by drugs, and by bad choices, and by people like me who sit idly by while it happens, because it isn't happening to us. Rich men, poor men, athletes, beggars, journalists, L.A., D.C., Detroit, Chicago, it doesn't matter. We are dying. I've just spent two days with the Redskins, who are trying to deal with the fact that one of their best players and team leaders, a young, complicated black man named Sean Taylor, is dead at 24, because someone broke into his home at 1:30 in the morning Monday and murdered him. There are those, including colleagues I respect, who say they're not surprised, and infer that Taylor had it coming, because he had had a beef with some bad people two years ago that led to brandished guns and cars shot full of holes. And, thus, it was inevitable that he had to die, like life is a Shakespearean play or something. A Montague is dead; a Capulet must follow. It's in the script. No, no, no. That is wrong. As black men, we cannot allow ourselves to be defined by anyone - by the media or by ourselves - and accept the premise that one beginning means only one possible ending. Sean Taylor, while no saint, was not a "thug." He didn't grow up in the 'hood. He went to private schools before college. And even if he was a thug - whatever that is - or embraced that culture during one part of his life, that doesn't mean he deserved to die in front of his child and fiancée, in his home, bothering no one. I'm angry that people cry about Sean Taylor's death because he was an outstanding football player, as if his death has extra meaning because he had great closing speed. This is not about sports. We have buried 200 Sean Taylors in this city this year.We don't know what would have come of their dreams and hopes. They deserve our tears, too, for they may have been anonymous to you, but they weren't to their mothers and fathers, their best friends and lovers, their teachers and mentors. I'm angry that, as of 2004, according to the Centers for Disease Control, homicide is the No. 1 cause of death among black men ages of 15 to 34. I'm angry that the Justice Policy Institute found more black men in prison than in college. I'm angry that young brothers who like school and want to learn are accused of "acting white," and have to make the awful choice of sticking with their education or sticking with their boys. It happened to me when I was 5. I've never gotten over it. How does one mend a heart broken by those who look most like him? I'm tired of nodding in agreement as I did yesterday when Brian Westbrook talked about how he has to be extra careful these days, because he knows that, all-pro or not, he's a target when he steps off the field, and his celebrity provides no shield. "I feel as though everybody's vulnerable, to a certain extent," he said. "You have to watch the company that you keep. You have to watch the situations that you put yourself in. . . . You can't put yourself in a situation where your friends are doing dirt or bad things, and then you hang around those people. 'Cause at some point, karma catches up with you." We can continue to throw our hands up and blame others or we can stop this genocide and deal with the recriminations later. In an otherwise demagogic campaign advertisement in 1964, Lyndon Johnson said, "These are the stakes. To make a world in which all of God's children can live or to go into the dark. We must either love each other or we must die." Quote "I do stand behind and agree with the argument that “black leaders” would better serve the community by helping to combat black-on-black crime instead of burying the n-word and going to lunch with Bill O’Reilly. The point — black-on-black crime should not be ignored and blatant racism should not go unchecked. The end." From Sterohyped, Copyright 2006–2007 Jossip Initiatives LLC

When it comes to the high death rate among young black males, those who are murdered and those who murder them come from the same source. Ninety percept of the black males in prison were born to young unwed mothers who raised them alone. Birth control could exert a powerful influence in the inner cities but the mind-set and culture that prevails there attaches no stigma to the practice of single young women routinely having babies for all the wrong reasons. It's a cliche, but there's no substitute for being raised in a stable 2-parent home. The only ones who can save "us" from "us" is "us". And so it goes. |

sean taylor had been robbed the week before. not saying what happened to the guy should have happened but it could have been prevented. if your a millionaire you should be able to afford some sort of security system to better help your family, instead of keeping a machette knife by your bed. i dont think the little assholes meant to kill him otherwise they would have went for his head instead of the leg, but none the less if you shot someone then there's a really good chance that they could die. one of the suspects was a relative of sean taylor's sister boyfriend (get all that?) ... she was probably babbling about all the nice stuff taylor had to her boyfriend and so on and so forth. this whole thing was a mess, it's always a mess when someone gets killed so young ...athlete or not.

One report has it that these guys checked Sean's mansion out and left. Then they later decided to come back and go for it. |

Your commentary is 100% accurate Ms. Cynique. But the unfortunately, the antidote to the pathological Coon Culture can only be found by black people -not white people or the government. Your comment clearly points to black people (and only black people), for having the power and ability to effectively address this social morass. But Negroes will have no part of this since it entails personal discipline and responsibility. Besides, it openly contradicts their tired self serving victimization mantra.

The death of Sean Taylor is very unfortunate....very, very sad, especially for his baby girl! In regards to this issue, I completely agree with Cynique. |

Yes. Obviously the feminist were lying. But inner city women don't know a feminist from a manicurist. And I did say that they were having babies for all the wrong reasons. |

What DO you know about black people, anyway? I have been on here for years and have yet to see a time you didn't make a big fool of yourself while you are trying to talk about us. You live in Mayberry, gal. You don't know anything about Black people) |

”But inner city women don't know a feminist from a manicurist.” True. Contrary to the above response, the overwhelming majority of underclass urban black women are not college students or anywhere near it. Their sad personal history contradicts the notion. ”And I did say that they were having babies for all the wrong reasons.” Unfortunately, this is also true. Having babies is the number one reason they are in the situation they are in. Contrary to the wisdom of fanatical pseudo-race pride Negroes, there are no advantages to having babies when you are a teenager, dropping out of school and having multiple affairs with saggy pants hanging hooded knuckleheads, ex-cons, drug dealers and generic street Coons. A recently emerged self destructive subculture our parents and grandparent would have never tolerated.

Although there's been a slight increase in teen pregnancy during 2005, in the +decade prior there's been a steady DECREASE in teen pregnancy. |

In another post you boo-hooed about the terrible conditions that exist in the inner cities due to the after effects of slavery, chrishayden, and now you're pissin on yourself because I imply that these slum campuses are not grunting out college graduates and feminists. Youre' nothing, if not inconsistent. Your credentials are so corroded that you don't have the authority to read anybody out of the race. If you had half as much credibility as you think you do, you'd still be a big half-cocked blowhard. |

Who specified "teen-age" preganacies? 70 percent of black babies are born out of wedlock. |

The rate is up again this year, and I repeat, it isn't about teen-aged pregnacy because that's across the board. It's up the 70 percent of black females having babies out of wedlock. watta lame brain. |

"The rate is up again this year, and I repeat, it isn't about teen-aged pregnacy because that's across the board." This is true. I read this in two separate articles. A vexing situation for some as to why. "It's up the 70 percent of black females having babies out of wedlock." So tragically true. And until black people as a group address this inexcusable problem, those who are caught up in this tragic cultural morass, will continue to labor in oblivion and poverty. It's appalling to know that the illegitimacy rate among black Americans has doubled since 1965. But of course white racism is the culprit. How else can you explain young black men fathering multiple children with absolutely no intention of providing neither financial security or parenting for their off spring and young black women cavorting with men who refuse to marry them after their fourth or fifth child. Sigh.......
