http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=15879188 When Stanley Calrke was only 25, the word "legend" was already being used to describe him. Now, he's a king of the acoustic and electric jazz worlds, having won every major award available to a bass player: Grammys, Emmys, gold and platinum records and more. ...Having turned his energy to film and television scoring in the '80s and '90s, Clarke recently returned to his original love of playing bass. His latest album, The Toys of Men, functions as a career summary of sorts, with Clarke delivering a series of solo acoustic bass miniatures that reference past efforts while functioning with impressive restraint. |

Well, Yvette, looks like you have become a target for chrishayden's presumptuous assessments and skewed perceptions. He seems to mistakenly think you are a naive, superficial buppie who lacks his hipess. But I know differently. Because I am able to do what he is incapable of doing. And that is to sense the essence of a person from how she writes and what she says. |

LOL @ Cynique. Yes, I guess so! But, though I appreciate your sense of me, I have to admit something very superficial. I first got into Clarke's music as a late teen when I saw a very sexy photo of him holding his bass. I thought--I have no idea who this man is or what he sounds like but I have got to buy his music! LOL Luckily for me, what he was capable of musically was just as inspiring as how he looks holding his instrument. And I have been a fan ever since. |

LOL. That's not being superficial, Yvettep, that's being a crush-prone teen-ager. I was a grown woman when I first salivated over guitarist Norman Brown but his talent proved to be on a par with his fione looks! |
