I would post Coretta King, Fannie Lou Hamer, Betty Shabazz, or Soujourner Truth but you couldn't even begin to handle it! Condi has ascended not as a wife in the shadow of a husband but as somebody who is her own person, chrishayden. And you act as if an argument is being made for Condoleeza Rice to be the only role model for black women. That's not the case. You need to shut up and switch your focus to male role models instead of trying to dictate who women should give credit to. |

But the fact remains that George Bush is not Condi's husband, and she is not in his shadow. George Bush is such a nonentity that he doesn't cast a shadow. He probably goes along with her decisions about policy, not her with his. I think if an objective person would weight Condi's assets and her liabilities they would say that the former slightly outweigh the latter by a few ounces. |

If George Bush had not been President there is no way that--I almost called her a hoe--thank God I didn't--would have even had a job much less been National Security Adviser and Secretary of State.

You don't know that what you say is true, chrishayden. Condi's subperb resume had her on track for big things. |

I can' t prove it any more than you can prove your claim, Chrishayden. But it stands to reason that if her skills were good enough for George Bush they would've been good enough to attract the attention of other high profile figures. This woman is not perfect, but she is brillant. You don't have to be a Condi lover to give credit where credit is due. Toni Morrison expressed the same sentiments as Crystal did about Condi. |

Chris - I agree that Mrs. Obama is a good choice. The others you listed are all deceased and I've noticed that kids don't spend much time thinking of the dead so while learning of these women's endeavors is very important for our children I think live bodies will catch their attention more. |

Or maybe . . . to follow along with you Chris . . . our young women will, like you, be so disgusted with Ms. Rice's actions that they will work harder to show the world what REAL black women can do for humanity! |

I was really intrigued when you said Condi "may be bankrolling our next revolution on the sly!", Crystal. That possibility just nudged me into viewing the old girl in a new light. An idea similiar to this was alluded to in the book "New England White", where it was suggested that black people have to pose as the friends of white leaders so they can get enough dirt on them to hold things over their head in order to get what they want. And, of course, I'm just defending Condi because ol chrishayden is so over the top in his attacks on her.

Chris - I agree that Mrs. Obama is a good choice. (Praise God, Jesus, Allah Vishnu and Buddha! See you ARE a fine, decent human being Crystal! Come out from under the spell of Cynique!) Or maybe . . . to follow along with you Chris . . . our young women will, like you, be so disgusted with Ms. Rice's actions that they will work harder to show the world what REAL black women can do for humanity! (They are doing it every day In fact pound for pound the black women seem to be doing a much better job of it. They haven't made the black woman who is a bigger tom than Clarence Thomas!) And, of course, I'm just defending Condi because ol chrishayden is so over the top in his attacks on her. (I only know two modes. At rest and over the top. Even today, if Condoleeza would make a speech excoriating Bush for his errors and quit I would get down on my knees in Times Square and kiss her ass on National Television. That she don't either speaks of almost irrational loyalty Or something more sinister. You know sometimes you get in so deep in something you CAN'T walk out. If she has to choose between keeping Chris Hayden happy and staying healthy, I can understand her taking the latter choice! |
