OPRAH BACK IN TO AFRICA

October 29, 2007 -- A tearful Oprah Winfrey begged parents to for give her for an alleged abuse scandal at her girls' school in South Africa.
"I've disappointed you. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry," Oprah told parents at an emergency meeting, South Africa's top news Web site reported yesterday.
It was the talk-show host's second trip to South Africa in recent weeks, according to reports.
The school was hit two weeks ago with allegations that one of the matrons fondled a girl and physically abused other students.
The school's principal - indentified only as Dr Mzimane - and at least one other matron were put on administrative leave following the charges, News24.com, the nation's No. 1 news site reported.
"I trusted [Dr. Mzimane]," the station quoted Oprah as telling parents.
"But, I've been disappointed," she said.
"It's not your fault. We don't blame you.," a father was quoted as saying.
"You have more passion for the school and its existence than anyone else in this country, including us parents."
The talk-show host reportedly gave students her personal phone number and email address if they needed to contact her again, the station reported.

Oprah's school is like the housing projects in Chicago. These complexes of tall modernistic buildings erected back in the 1940s to replace slum tenements were supposed to be the ideal housing for the underclasses. 50 years later these crumbling structures are all being torn down, the failed idea of architects who thought you could warehouse people, stack them on top of each other, fence them it and then expect uniformity in behavior within this clautrophobic environment. People will be people. Utopia is a nonexistent place. But give Oprah a "C" for effort - "C" as in See, that's what you get for passing over black american kids, you rich-assed heifa. |

Given all those teachers, coaches, etc., who have fondled, physically abuse, etc., students in the schools, in the US, it could easily have happened, if she had built her academy in the States. Or anywhere else for that matter. |

Yes, which is why do-gooders ought to know that you cannot shield people from people and create a perfect enviroment no matter where you go or how noble your intentions are. |

What Oprah does with herself and with her money is Oprah's business.
Yes...it would have been prudent for her to start a school...schools..she's got her funds and project moneys...to start schools here.
I do watch her show now and then...write too on suggestions for topics for her shows with contacts and info to no avail.... depending upon the subject and guests..and recall the show on dna. Oprah sure was surprised that a Tribe in the Congo area is, if dna tests are accurate...are her Black ancestry. She was sure South Africa was where her ancestors came from and relates to the the people and culture there. Zulu or whomever.
Certainly wasn't the xZong or other 'Bushmen' as Afrikaners named them.
Anyway. I suspect that's why chose that area to start a school for girls. She feels a connection there.
Oprah does other 'good things' so let's give her a break. Whatever her intent..motivations.
On the other hand....Goodness has to start from within our own individual selves, to family and those close to us, to our communities and extending beyond from there.
In simple words...clean up our own houses and yards first.
Whether it's politics, environment, human rights and so on....we have to start at home first.
I was watching Oprah one day while working on a painting...it was about autism.
There was this one woman who looked so tired and distressed..and in grief.
At the end of the show, Oprah said something like...*can't remember the woman's name...'won't rest unless she said this"....that she strongly feels it was the vaccines that made her child severely autistic...Oprah said that she 'allowed' her to say that. Well thank you very much, Oprah.
And we won't hear about tainted meat on that show ether after she got sued and won about that subject.
Censorship.
I read..correct me if erroneous...that Oprah's staff are told to tell guests what they can and cannot say.
She caters to upper middle class white women mostly, who idolize her...and love those free gifts and food they scream and yell about. Makes me cringe. I'm not going to write what i picture in my mind's eye.
I preferred The Phil Donahue talk show with call ins and very 'controversial' subjects and guests...he was way ahead in that area. He had innane shows too but few to cater to the braindead.
And that special...honoring of Black Women.
Those gifts at that tent breakfast or whatever with diamond earrings as party gifts?
I saw those nicely gift wrapped little boxes and thought...oh no. There she goes again. True act of giving? Want of love and acceptance? Both?
And Yep...diamonds.
Where she been? Black Africans still slaving in those diamond mines...and the supposed 'clean' diamonds can't really be authenticated.
Diamond dealers themselves said that diamonds pass from one hand to another numbers of times and papers of authentic 'clean' diamonds are not reliable.
And they are in fact gemstones...not rare ones.
Loads locked up and doled out to keep the prices high.
Whether it's Oprah, Condoleeza...diplomat? I don't think so. A pawn in the game unless she's slick and got herself in that position and going to GW's house for dinner and all the rest of it, to infiltrate and turn on them when it's the right time...but I'm just dreaming.
They have their paths to make and walk...just like the rest of us.... and we all stumble and hopefully learn and change where and when needed.

Oprah is a phenomenon. She was at the right place at the right time with the correct persona, which is to say that her vulnerable non threatening good humor made white folks comfortable with her. Her ascendency to a position of fame and influence by being all things to all people, have enabled her to make herself over into a glamourous earth mother full of wisdom and generosity and herself. They say power corrupts and O's power has convinced her that she is all-knowing. Even when she is presented facts, she circumvents them if they do not conform with her opinions. She is a flawed human being, deluded by the adulation she receives but fortunately she is not full of malice and she does have the good sense to surround herself with competent people. |
