It's amazing how a configuration of six letters has for centuries continued to provoke controversy, anger and pain.
N I G G E R. It's a powerful word. You have to thrust your tongue against the roof of you mouth to pronounce it and in the act of doing this, a sneer distorts you face.
N i g g er; a - balkanization of the Spanish word for "black". Black, as in night, - a period within a 24-hour time span when there is no sunshine. So, only a new day will dispel the darkness of the word N i g g e r.

Ntfs, my So Cal buddy, how are you doing in the San Diego area with all the wild fires. Here in Long Beach, it's very hot, red haze, and the smell of the fires is in the air. Hope you and family are well. |

and for all of the aggrandized attempts to get rid of the word...burying a freaking word for goodness sakes, is NOT going to stop white people from using it. Nor will it stop those who are NOT offended by its usage from using it as a term of endearment and comraderie.
The only thing going to extremes of trying to abolish a word does is send a clear message that black people can STILL be HURT by the use of a STUPID WORD. Thereby EMPOWERING those who wish to use the word in a slanderous fashion to CONTINUE to do so! So the very thing you try to prevent you only PERPETUATE! |

Thank you Ms. Jackie. I'm OK. It's in the outlaying areas where there is a lot of forestry and brush. I live in the basic SoCal urban sprawl. But there are a number of raging huge fires destroying thousands of acres. Over 256,000 people were displaced from their homes and evacuated. The areas that were burned have very nice homes in the $450,000 and up range. It's very sad. It's not as bad (the fall out) as the fire was a couple years ago. When I came outside, my car was covered in fine brown ash like in Mount St. Helens and the sky was blocked out. It was like a sci-fi movie. You would have to be have here to see it. I had never seen anything like it in person before. The flames can become so large, they leap across the freeways and keep burning and spreading.

I used to live in Long Beach many years ago. I was in LA every single day roaming around. No idle moments. It is your native city?

A_womon, unfortunately, this is true. But white people are not the problem. There is nothing you can do about them using the word. In fact, a black female friend of mine told me just tonight, about a young white guy who lives above her in her apartment complex. She told me the kid has behavioral problems stemming mostly from immaturity (IHO). Anyway, she reported him to the site manager for doing things he should not have been doing. Long story short, when he found out it was her, he bolted up the stairs, ranting and raving, then opened and slammed his front door three times -screaming at the top of his lungs (three times), "I hate niggers!!!!" Go figure.
But when black people openly (totally oblivious and indifferent to the hetero or homogeneous racial company in ear shot) and refer to other blacks with the same stupid vicious term (that white racists called their parents and grand parents), well, you would be hard pressed to mount an intelligent defense for such behavior. I'll leave it at that because I have be very clear about how I feel about black people happily and gleefully referring to each other with language that was (and still is) used to enslave, dehumanize, degrade and reduce them to a sub-human categorization. Yes, I know I'm the lone voice in the woods in this forum with this word. The popularity and trendy cavalier usage of this disgusting racist epithet is not going to recede because of me. I know this. Attempting to prevent Negroes from degrading themselves and their ancestors with the "N" word would be like attempting to talk bears out of shitting in the woods. Ok, ok. I'm done............

You're not the lone voice. I know so many of us embrace this idea that we can neutralize the original meaning of the word by using it in another context. But that seems not only silly to me but also immature. It's tantamount to saying, "Instead of saying 'I love you,' I'm now going to say 'I hate you,' but what I really mean is 'I love you.'" Not only does it cause confusion, but nothing you could possibly conceive removes the original meaning, regardless of context or intent.
I wish African-Americans could see that rather than rejoice at their ability to hold on to and exalt the symbols of the oppressor. |

nas has got to do something to keep his name in the hype machine, because he isn't that good anymore. not to mention if you really think about it, when you think of the word n.i.g.ger ... you don't think of every black person you know, you honestly know who you think of when you say it... well Nas apparently fits the bill.

Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! I'll try not to do so. Just got off the phone with a friend (I haven't turned on the news yet) who said the 5 North freeway is closed. It's a major freeway that goes to LA and all the way up the Western Coast of California. The fire leaped across the the freeway (as I mentioned before) and is now on both sides. People going to LA, Oceanside, Vista, Temecula, etc, (Orange County, LA County, et al) are being rerouted or told to say home. Firemen and volunteers are taking a severe beating. More details to follow........

I still say its DUMB to give a STUPID WORD POWER. BLACK used to be used in a degrading manner too, so was COON, but its ok to use that when describing ourselves. I have asked this question before. How do you differentiate between the two? |

A bunch of dumbass niggas(used to degrade some people on this message board) arguing about the word nigga(used to describe a word that you are arguing about). From now on, since some people can't tell the difference when someone uses this gawdawful word, we should use parenthesis to tell how we mean it. Some times you people tickle the hell out of me. I saw a guy from the old neighborhood in Home Depot. He said, "This nigga heah!" when he saw me. Did I get totally disgusted and punch him in the mouth? Noooooo. Did I give him a 10 minute lecture on how we shouldn't give this word so much power? Noooooo. What on earth did I do? How did I handle this situation? I'll tell you what I did. I took a deep breath. I thought long and hard about what I should do, (about .2 seconds). Then, I raised my pimp hand high and brought it down with thunderous force into his. I pulled him towards me and rapped my left arm around his shoulders so that he could feel the full power and force of my ancestors because I had real love for the fellow man of color and I uttered two words to him. I said, "MY NIGGA!" Funny, he didn't think I was mocking him at all. He didn't get all reminiscent about the plantation, thinking that I was claiming ownership or anything like that. You would think that a dumbass blackass nigga would mistake my intentions, hunh? Y'all stupid. Its just a word. Who gives a damn how white folks use it or intend it. Does it shiver your timbers that much in this day and age? Get over it already. Be mad about something that's worth it. Don't we have enough on our plates already? |
