Sometimes you just have to have a sense of humor about such things. Especially since every skintone was going to have equal time when it came to a party, and the adjective to describe each color was flattering. IMO. |

These kinds of (so-called light-skinned) parties go on all over the place all the time, but you just don't hear about them in public.
They've been rapidly growing in popularity for the past ten years. Many of them are held at exclusive clubs and in posh private homes. This particulary DJ could have simply been trying to see how much he could get under the skin of those who can't pass that particular color test. The issue is, there is a growing segment of light(er)-skinned blacks who do not and will not associate with their darker-skinned counterparts.
The odd part of this story is that if in fact the DJ was darker-skinned as was reported, then what message was he really trying to send? |

How in this day and age, would somebody even think this could be cool? If there are so called African Americans who do, then I think the NAACP ought to dig Nigga back up, make bumper stickers and buttons, and pass 'em out! |

Growing in popularity??? How do you know? I'm not suggesting you are lying or exaggerating, but what information do you have to support this? Details please.... Please excuse me but I'm just shocked since it's hard to believe these silly Negroes are going backwards at the speed of light. Perhaps this was normal in 1935 but this is 2007!!!! I know it's bad, but parties catering to and celebrating light complexion females only???? Groan.....How pathetic and ignorant do Negroes consciously attempt to get??!! And what are they trying to prove???

I don't know if he was deliberately trying to provoke darker complexioned females but I'm sure the thought of such arrangements would antagonize them. It's no different than those black face Ghetto Parties given by white racist fraternities and sororities in the South.
I'm not defending this mindless color struck fool or his homies who supported this divisive brain dead idea, but I think their "red bone obsession" drove them to do this. Why would they deliberately do this with the conscious effort and intent to provoke darker complexioned women? I'm open to discussion about this.

Uhhhhhhh.....I can't buy that bro. I know plenty of light complexioned people I grew up with and associate with and I have never, ever heard of anything like this until now. I think the brain numbing affects of tasteless hip hop/rap videos has created an accepted image by many young blacks that having a light complexioned woman is more appealing and prestigious than a darker complexioned female. But suggesting lighter complexioned blacks, as a group, are involved and support a separation of blacks based on skin color is over the top. I have seen nothing to support this contention. But I will conceded there is a reemerging mindset among a number of younger blacks (post 1970 generation) that are susceptible to the nefarious notion that lighter complexioned women are more appealing and desirable. I would be hard pressed to refute such thinking. But I don't believe it is a group movement. If it was, what would be the goal and what would such stupidity lead to?

In the "inner circles", none of what's mentioned above is news. But as they say, if you're on the darker end of the equation, you wouldn't know it was happening even if it occurred in your own backyard. That's the whole idea.

Unkike colorism and its tired champions, what so-called black America appears to have missed is that the significant rise in interracial marraiges and births over the past 50 to 55 years has borne a new segment of (self-identifying mixed black) society that embraces differences instead of racial/ethnic affinity. Unfortunately, that all weighs toward the detriment of those who do not fit that mixed phenotype.

Stupidity is in the eye of the observer. There are many hidden threads within current black American society that evidence the divergence of traditional black America. Once colorism was broken down into its primary components, self-identification and self-association became a well-practiced option for a widening group of mixed-race, light(er) complexioned and cross-phenotype people who had some degree of black SSA ancestry.
This discussion could go on and on and on, but with little visibility into that inner circle, you'll be hard-pressed to find the smoking guns you may be looking for. In other words, if you can't get past the door, then you'll never know who's really at the party.

And as for stupidity being in the eye of the beholder, I agree to a point. It's certainly true that people such as Hitler, or George W. Bush, actually consider or considered themselves not to be stupid; in fact, they each consider(ed) themselves to be highly intelligent, if not brilliant. But those of us who really have brains know otherwise. |

who cares about this crap? i would go if i still attended party's. i thought about it for a minute and i think this dude has the right to come up with his own party theme if he wants to. he said he was going to do a different shade of brown every week, for some reason i think if he started off with the chocolate first no one would have said anything. the more i really really think about it, who cares ... half of the people who go to these kind of parties and caberey's (sp?) should be at home with their fuggin kids. |
