I went to sleep early and awoke during the night (around 3:00 a.m.), flipped thru the channels and stopped at BBC America for whatever reason, and there was a news crawl about a statue of Nelson Mandela being unveiled in London and that the story was upcoming. I went to the kitchen and when I returned to my boudoir there was live coverage of the unveiling ceremony! I sat and watched while Nelson Mandela and his wife listened to speeches about the project, and saw the 9 foot statue still covered in a rainbow colored drop cloth that was swaying in a peaceful breeze. Prime Minister Gordon Brown was to do the unveiling and he also gave a speech, but unfortunately the BBC cut away from the ceremony to air commercials during all of this and I missed the live unveiling, but once coverage continued I saw Nelson Mandela speaking and as always his eloquent words were notable and meaningful. He said that he was proud that a statue of a Black man was being placed in such a prominent location and that it was an honor for all humanity (or something to that effect) I was so delighted to have witnessed this live event. It was historic and was the next best thing to being there in person. The BBC news story can be seen at the link below and there is streaming video of Mandela's speech. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/6967927.stm
