What do you think about this: http://www.dayinblackhistory.com/showpoll4.aspx IMHO, it kind of dilutes--or even taints--the purposes of NAACP. |

One of the NAACP's roles is to provide legal aid and counsel for minorities. Michael Vick needs an advocate group to keep things in perspective. He may have subjected animals to cruelty but he didn't commit homicide. Vick is a villainized young black man who made bad decisions just like a lot of young white men have. |

Yeah it's a pretty site. I bookmarked it so I remember to check what black people did each day in history -- feels like i'm back in school again but with a real black history lesson ;) . I'll probably adopt some events. You all might also want to vote on the Barry Bonds poll too: http://www.dayinblackhistory.com/showpoll3.aspx

Cynique, you have a good point, especially now that Vick has admitted to those bad decisions. I am however wondering exactly how much legal aid that Michael Vick, multimillionare, would need from a non-profit organization. |

Oviously Vick doesn't need any financial assistance, but the NAACP is not out of its realm when it offers support and counsel, and it may very well want to use this case as a precedent to demonstrate the biased way black athletes are villified in comparison to white ones. Maybe. |

Wow, you really believe black athlete's are villified in comparison to white ones Cynique?? Just kidding--you have a very good point again. Perhaps I'm just idealistically wishing to see more NAACP support cases (to be brought to light by the media) that concern outright discrimination of the innocent, rather than cases of discrimination/bias after an African American has broken the law. I'm not saying one type of case is more legitimate than the other, but they are certainly different, at the very least in terms of media coverage. That is another story, and may be the result of a bias in the media. |

Well, Michael Vick has become a pariah. But he is also a young man who excelled in a violent sport that paid him a lot of money with which he could do anything he chose. In his case this was a lethal combination. When his poor judgment led to his downfall, he was abandoned and shunned. Apparently the local chapter of the NAACP decided to give one of their own something he never gave dogs; some moral support. Nobody is perfect and Vick will have to spend the rest of his life atoning for the sins of his youth. In a way he now inspires pity. |

They can do what they want. It's a free country. And it is a race thang. I think Vick was an idiot. I don't think he should lose his job or go to jail. But bunches of bigots are just waiting for this opportunity.

"And it is a race thang.: True. This Negro did not let his race prevent him from indulging in a red neck-ghetto sadistic blood sport. His race had nothing to do with it but his reckless thuggish wannabe behavior has flushed his career down the tubes. And he is 100% responsible for it. Next......

Vick is a disgusting psychopath. A man with no remorse, guilt or empathy. It has nothing to do with him being black. Even Whoopi Goldberg is trying to drum this up as a "cultural" thing. I fail to see how this is "cultural." http://youtube.com/watch?v=LR9rlUdi5Wg Abusing and killing animals is psychopathic, plain and simple. To attempt to justify this based on race, serves no humane purpose. |

I wouldn't call Vick a psychopath. He was callous, and looked upon dog fighting as a competitive game just like football. And he applied the rules of pro sports; poor performers are cut from the team. Once this misguided young man had his reprehensible conduct called to his attention, he realized the error of his ways. The culture he had immersed himself in made his conscience immune to guilt. |

A white sports pundit here in Chicago opined that NFL Patriots coach Bill Belichick, who had a spy filming the rival teams signals, is just as unscrupulous as Vick. The mantra about "nice guys finishing last" has served to force out integrity in pro sports. Winners want to win by any means necessary. On and off the field. Apparently. |

I think Vick should both lose his job and serve jail time just as I think ANY athlete of ANY race should lose their job and serve jail time. |
