or the Dumbass Award for the Year By SCOTT MICHELS Aug. 10, 2007 Share A married man is suing 1-800-Flowers for $1 million for revealing that he was cheating on his wife. Leroy Greer said in a lawsuit filed this week in a federal court in Texas that he bought flowers for his girlfriend through 1-800-Flowers. He asked to keep his purchase private. Greer said he was referred to the company's privacy policy, which states that customers can ask 1-800-Flowers not to share personal information with "third parties." But, the lawsuit says, 1-800-Flowers sent a thank-you note to his house and his wife saw it. When she called the company, 1-800-Flowers faxed her a copy of the receipt from Greer's secret purchase. The receipt revealed that Greer had sent another woman a dozen long-stemmed red roses, along with a note that read, "Just wanted to say that I love you and you mean the world to me!" according to court documents. The couple was already going through what Greer's attorney described as an amicable divorce. After learning of the affair, Greer's wife asked for a $300,000 divorce settlement in addition to child support, said Kennitra Foote, Greer's attorney. "That thank-you note is going to cost him money," Foote said. Greer is asking for $1 million for breach of contract and deceptive trade practices. "This is not a moral issue," Foote said. "The issue is, is 1-800-Flowers in the business of causing divorce or are they in the business of sending flowers and sticking to their privacy policy?" A 1-800-Flowers spokesman said the company does not comment on pending litigation. In a statement, spokesman Steven Jarmon said, "We take all matters relating to our customers seriously; however, we are not responsible for an individual's personal conduct."

Nice post Sabiana. This one's good and funny. I kind of sympathize with the cheating husband, who is legally still married until the divorce is final, because I value my privacy. But everyone knows that when you purchase something these days you are going to get bombarded with some sort of follow-up junk mail or spam. So he should have used an alternate billing address, used a pre-paid credit card or gone in person to a florist and paid with cash. I wonder how this will turn out. I kind of think that wifey is gonna get paid

BTW, his case against 800-Flowers won't fly. Privacy policies simply mean that corporations won't give your info to any other entities. Not that they aren't going to add your name and address to their own mailing list. He was essentially committing a crime (adultery) and no court is going to rule in his favor.

i saw that dude on tv yesterday, he was pissed because he got caught more than anything. katie curic or whatever her name was kept asking him why was he getting his cheat on, and he kept telling her that, that was not the issue. i kind of agree with enchanted on this one, but i don't think his black ass will get a dime from this law suit. he shouldn't have kept his receipts around ... never leave a paper trail when your macking. |

Where is it written that people going through a divorce can't have a sweetheart? Seems to me, this guy's divorce lawyer should have a case to make in regard to this being grounds for raising the financial settlement. |

I don't know where it's written and if I have some extra time today I'll do a law search, but until your divorce is final you're still married. And if you're having assignations with someone else during that time you're committing adultery. The player's problem isn't so much that he's having an affair while going thru the divorce, but wife's investigations (or sworn testimony of the girlfriend) would likely prove that he started this affair even before the divorce. Therefore the wife is entitled to a larger settlement.

Cynique wrote: Well, sending flowers to a women is not synonymous with having sex with her. Can one have an affair and not be engaging in sexual relations? He referred to the other woman as his girlfriend, but also he's saying that he was separated from his wife, living in a different residence, thus he wasn't cheating.

Theorhetically, unless it can be proven differently in a court of law, a man can claim that he and his companion are abstaining from sex in their romantic relationship, for any number of reasons. |

That fool is stupid. He should have picked the flowers up and sent them over there. He was being damn stupid and trying to look like a big man. If Mzuri was a man she would pull this sort of stunt. Hell, she might still pull this sort of stunt--hahaha! Her man will find out she's sending flowers to a woman. In fact--she's always posting roses and stuff up here for Cynique! |
