I went to his funeral.
It is odd to say this but I enjoyed it. They didn't have the body there (I think they are going to have a memorial graveside service with that) but they had a slideshow retrospective of his life and a number of speakers, most of whom knew him.
It was a mixed Traditional African, Muslim, Christian ceremony. They played some music he had financed.
Really interesting were stories like him getting together a sort of soapbox derby for neighborhood kids to keep them out of trouble.
He was a sort of grassroots, jack of all trades neighborhood guy. He will be missed. |
