I Treat the Patients Michael Moore Forgot By Thomas L. Fisher Sunday, July 1, 2007; Page B02 Washingtonpost.com Many Americans have been talking more about health care these days because of the buzz around Michael Moore's new documentary, "Sicko," a polemical look at unfairness in the nation's health care industry. However, the types of communities I care for are barely addressed. Moore says up front in the movie that he is not focusing on the nearly 50 million people who have no access to care at all. His decision to concentrate instead on the substandard care given to the working and insured is an understandable attempt to touch the heartstrings of Middle America. Unfortunately, by giving cursory treatment to race and class, he avoided tackling the most intractable problems in this country's health care system. IMO, Michael Moore very carefully crafts his image in an attempt to pass himself off as "Every Man". Dressed in his "average joe" uniform, he manipulates and extrapolates and cleverly employs the anecdotal device in dramatizing the points he is trying to make. His exposure of controversial issues in the guise of a reformer has made him a millionaire. I'm just glad he uses his duplicity to advance liberal causes rather than conservative ones. |

I don’t know. I never made a tough financial decision in my life. Even when I worked, that money was for two things only: buy more shoes and hire town car and minivan services...(to take me to work and..…uh…..buy more shoes). I was set to Blast Michael Moore for being a sellout to "Neo-Liberals" and the like...but like I said who am I to judge?

Cynique I could not agree with "...he manipulates and extrapolates and cleverly employs the anecdotal device in dramatizing the points he is trying to make." more. I did not see Sicko, but I gather it is more of the same stuff done in his other movies (which I did see). However I do not agree that because he has taken up liberal caused that what he does is necessarily better than if he took up conservative causes. The approach on either side is misleading. That said his movies are funny and they seem to spur more serious discussion on the important matter he addresses. Here is a link to Kam Williams' review: http://reviews.aalbc.com/sicko.htm

I slept through some of Fahrenheit 9/11 but from what I saw and from what we know now I wouldn’t call it an exaggeration at all.

Exagerration is not Moore's MO. He just picks and chooses what to show in order to support the side that he takes. Someone as clever as he is could rebut what he says by using the same method. Somewhere between the 2 versions lies the whole truth. He admits himself that he is not objective. |

I don’t know who expects objectivity from Michael Moore anyway. That’s like asking Ann Coulter or Bill O’Reilly to be objective---LOL---good luck! And yet their books always make the best seller list. Btw, check out Ann Coulter in this photo Uh-uhnn, who is she kidding??? |

Hmm. Maybe that picture is a fake. ...When you take a closer look it appears her face was placed on somebody else’s body. Plus I found it next to this picture... which has clearly been doctored rather cruelly. Not nice! |

I'm not asking objectivity from Moore, especially since I think he does more good than harm. I am just echoing what a lot of people have concluded about him; that he's a huckster masquerading as a crusader. |

I get so sick of this crap. If you are trying to do something for somebody you are supposed to be poor and not make any money. Troy, are you a hustler? You are trying to promote Afro American books, but is you doing it for free? Cynique? Did you go down to the post office and volunteer so everybody got good service? Pat Buchanan, Ann Coulter, George W. Bush, Condoleeza Rice, Colin Powell, all these people make money doing stuff and nobody says anything. Only they say they are a hustler when they are taking the liberal standpoint. If he was a hustler he'd be out here taking big money from Insurance companies to tell you that everything is all right. Instead he goes through hell, gets threatened, gets harassed, gets investigated trying to get the truth out. Are you people serious? Don't you for one moment think he could make more money doing cartoons or after school specials? The American people kick the folks who try to help them and lick up under the folks who take them to the cleaners. |

Jesus was a hustler too wasn't he? Didn't have no job, wouldn't marry and settle down, took business away from doctors--yeah, now I got it! |
