I’ve been waiting for someone to write this book. Merida and Fletcher did. I sat through the entire hearing (I’d been laid off my job at the time) and became so infuriated that I starting writing seriously. Thomas said at the confirmation hearings that he was being subjected to a high tech lynching (paraphrasing here). I thought Anita Hill and the then-citizen Thomas had both been “high tech lynched.” Partial quotes follow with credits given. From Publishers Weekly “The conservatism of the nation's second African-American Supreme Court justice has made him a pariah in the black community, an irony that centers this probing biography, expanded from the authors'Washington Post Magazine profile. (Mar. 20) From The Washington Post's Book World/washingtonpost.com Reviewed by Kenji Yoshino “It is hard, though, to quarrel too much with a book that solves the great Thomas mystery: his legendary silence. One conventional explanation is that Thomas is still smarting from the Anita Hill scandal that occupied his confirmation hearing, an explanation that seems less plausible with every passing year. Merida and Fletcher explain his courtroom demeanor by suggesting that silence is the closest Thomas can come to opting out of the scripts that eddy around him. "If you can't be free," the poet Rita Dove writes, "be a mystery."”

Why didn't you write the book? You could have called it . . . The Seduction of Clarence Thomas

I thought Anita Hill and the then-citizen Thomas had both been “high tech lynched (Anita Hill was the one lynched. First of all, she appeared and testified only under subpoena. She didn't want to get involved. The ignorant white women who mostly pushed this did not understand that nobody would be upset about him disrespecting a black woman--they should have dropped it-- I was not impressed by the white women who got up there and testified that he never had done it to them. He wouldn't have gotten where he did if he had been so stupid as to do that. Sexual predators pick their victims. Anita Hill and the whole nation was further lynched because there were several MORE women willing to testify to the same thing and pussyass Joe Biden wouldn't let them come in. This whole thing led me to believe we need more women in government the Senate, etc. You see we men tend to take sexual harassment too lightly. Mostly because we are all sometime guilty of it. All those whoremongers in the Senate KNEW this was an area that they better not step on. Finally, with regard to Anita Hill what outraged me about the whole thing is that implicit in the whole thing was that Thomas was guilty as hell but a black woman had no right to be insulted by the way somebody talked to them. This was something new to them--a black woman who was a LADY and a HUMAN BEING and who was GENUINELY UPSET by his revolting behavior. Again, he knew who he was picking on. To top it all off, he's a dummy, not qualified to be on the court and nothing but a yes man. If he was a genuine conservative instead of a Negro who was willing to go as low as it took to get over I would at least respect him. |

To me, this farce was nothing more than an office flirtation gone bad. Anita even tracked Thomas down after their days of working together to get his recommendation for another job. He was just a big dumb dufus who liked to titillate a prissy missy. |

Anita even tracked Thomas down after their days of working together to get his recommendation for another job. (What the hell else was she going to do? How would you go on an interview and list that you worked there but you couldn't get a reference? GET REAL! I'm sure over your long and checkered career you worked at jobs where you were treated like a dog but you didn't tell subsequent employers that--nor did you file a complaint or sue or complain. You sucked it up and went on. He was a dirty dog. Well known for watching porn. And after that hearing a perjurer! |

You have just proved my point, chrishayden. The whole thing was a farce. Just another day at the office. Both parties involved were used by people with agendas. |
