Ninth Annual National Action Network Convention Schedule http://www.nationalactionnetwork.net/html/upcoming_events.html Rev. Al's convention held a few event I would have attended it time permitted. I'm missing Barack Obama as I write this. Last night howeevr I did catch the dabate between conservative radio and Fox News TV personality Sean Hannity and Rev. Al Sharpton. From some reason traffic was outrageous yesterday -- probably because it was the first nice evening in a full week. It took me 90 minutes to cover the roughly 9 miles from my office. As a result I got there right at the start time. There was a long line with a buch of upset people who were told no one else was getting in. Most of them, like myself, assumed since we had confirme registrations and had arrived on time, there would be no problem getting in. Obviously the registrations did not mean s-it. You know how we do... Most of the people in line at that point left. I guess about 50 people stuck around. I was hoping they might simulcast the debate in another room. The remaining crowd was almost all white and angry. I really thought they were going to bum rush the door. One of the white guys yelled out "Is the a racial thing!". Sercurity started yell that we needed to leave immediately as we were posing a fire hazard. Someone, for some reason opened the door to the debate and the gurad started to yell close that door. I inched by way to the door and said "excuse me", "excuse me" I got in and the door was closed behind me. I think it was my business suit that did the trick. The romm was indeed full, but more people could have been accomodated -- if they stood which I ended up doing. The audience, interstingly, was probably 80% or more white. But the Shaprton supporters were quite loud so the numeric desparity was of no consequence. Of the conservative talk show hosts I listen to on the radio Hannity seems to be most balanced (well the least angry). Indeed, he often hosts Rev. Al on his show. So I was excepting an interesting debate. ...Out side of the confernece room, I could now hear the people outside chanting "Let us In, Let us In". I move closer to the front of the room. In case the place was stormed by mob of middle aged white people. Hannity was clearly out gunned by Rev. Al. Hannity points were easily dispatched by Al. Al was prepared and is a master at the craft. Hannity is less skilled and was ill prepared. The mismatch was obvious and Al reminded me of Muhammad Ali; wit as fast as Ali's jabs and easily bobbing and weaving to avoid each of Hannity's blows. ----------- Rev. Al did say that he would now go after rap artists for there lyrics.

Interesting post, Troy. Your experience was just an example of what persistance plus ingenuity can result in. Say what you will about Al Sharpton, he always manages to hold his own in a debate. I would like to hear him and Obama have a dialogue. |

"Say what you will about Al Sharpton, he always manages to hold his own in a debate." This is very true. After spending a life time conning and playing the "Three Card Molly" trick, Sharpton is the Grand Wizard of linguistical pugilism. He is very entertaining to watch. I will admit that. But going up against a professional cheap shot artist and the most egregious political hack this side of Rush Limbaugh, someone like Sean Hannity was just another day at work for Sharpton.

Mzuri, the press card did not occur to me. I never considered entering the venue would be a problem. Cyn, NTFS I guess I expected a better showing from Hannity, simply because he is a broadcaster had host a popular radio program. As a professional speaker I'd thought he would fair better. Escually with a mostly white audience and essentially on his home turf in midtown manhattan. Admittedly I don't listen to Hannity often. I caught him on the itunes radio (I think) (Hey I just got an ipod nano for my bithday that is a neat little piece of technolgy -- where have I been) I actually learned about the debate from Hannity's program. Maybe Sharpton simply offered up a lamb for slaughter not to risk his reputation. NTFS, Sharpton is very entertaining. Sharpton kinda reminds me of Dick Gregory. |

I'm watching Haniity right now. The man is a pathetic ideologue and a propaganda spinmeister. I'm currently listening to him tell one lie after another. I've seen conservatives who can give interesting and thought provoking arguments (even though I may disagree with them). Sean Hannity is not one. The man is a perfect complimentary book end for Ann Coulter. Two right wing fanatics who substitute honest and intelligent commentary with histrionics and factually inaccurate blather.

NTFS, that is one reason Sharpton was able to break Hannity down so easily. Hannity would repeat an apparently negative sound bite and Sharpton was put it in cotent, leaving Hannity with nothing relavent to say. |

I'm not angry at Hannity. He is trying to get over. If nobody was buying his bilge he wouldn't be pushing it. The human crud that is feeding on this stuff is the problem-- |
