Assuming that Baldwin, I think what he's done is deplorable. But I'm just as bother by how such a very private issue (one that is without a doubt a product of all the scrapping he and the child's mother Kim Bassinger over the years) can be made fodder for public news and entertainment. |

Baldwin sounds sincerely hurt. I know nothing at all about this case, and I know nothing about his daughter and whether she's obese or not, but from listening to this tape I sympathize with Baldwin the most. He's clearly being screwed around by one or both of them; they're playing with his heart, pitiful.

Could be, Tonya, but any parent knows that you have to create and maintain clear boundaries between you, as an adult, and your child. He clearly has some boundary issues by talking to (and cursing at) an 11 year old in this fashion.
ABM, he is a public figure going throug a public post-divorce that has been very, very nasty--much of the nastiness that he, himself, has contributed to. Surely he should be savvy enough to know better than to leave such "evidence" forever on tape/voice mail to be used against him and his claims to custody.
Side note: It is interesting to me that when poor folks display poor parenting, there are attributions all around of pathology and whatnot. Perhaps we should (also) be talking about the pathologies of the rich and famous?... |

Balwin should NOT have done that. But it seems pretty dayam clear that there's a LOT of backstory to what prompted his blistering tirade.
Now I think BOTH he and Bassinger needs their a$$es kicked for what they've done to and around that child.

No DOUBT what he did was wrong and dumb. But if all parents were made to PUBLICLY account for every mean thing we said about and to our kids, MOST of us would at some point be in hotwater too.
I don't think that should negatively affect his media career. Because the truth is what happened during that phone call was none of OUR dayam business. |

ABM, part of "his media career" depends on the public's image of him. I can't say I have been following this case closely, but from what I understand neither one of them has had any problem up to now airing each other's dirty laundry in order to hurt each other and get what they want. Most of us will never have to publicly account for our parenting; but then again, most of us are not famous actors. In every case like this, the real losers are the kids who are used like a rope in a tug of war contest. |

I don't consider a private telephone call between a parent and child to be fair and appropriate fodder for public consumption, regardless of the nature of one's work or even how contentious and strifeful one's private affairs are. Nor do I think being famous eliminates any/all one's privacy rights.
Now had Baldwin been charge or convicted of a crime related to what he'd expressed to his daughter, well then the tape of the phone call is fairgame. |

Alec and Kim are both emotionally unstable. He with his legendary hair-trigger temper and her reportedly suffering from bi-polar/agoraphobia. Poor frustrated guy. His supporters say Kim has really jerked him around when it comes to their daughter. Maybe he should just give up custody of his daughter, assuring her that he will always love her. When she gets older she might see things in a different light and realize what she missed by growing up without a father around and reach out to him for a reconciliation. |

So far, the people at the media outlet who put the tape out are not saying how they got it except that they obtained it "legally." I do not have the appropriate background to know about that, except to note that it was not a private telephone conversation, but a message he left on a phone that belonged to someone else, presumably for that person to do with as they please.
Was it ethical for the more mainstream media outlets to pick up on that? Considering they all just splashed gun-weilding pics while folks are still grieving I think we can't be naive about their "ethics" when there is a potential to make money via increased viewership.
Fair? I agree it is not. But like I said, once two people decide to be immature in this way they have to know that it can lead in some really bad directions.

That was not my point. The media obviously does not make such a distinction if the "private family story" will still garner audience and ratings. |

I agree the media don't make such a distinction. I wish they would, though.
Because what they don't realize is they're humiliating that child just as much as they're humiliating Alec. And they're making it MORE difficult for he and that child to reconcile. Because now EVERYONE - all her friends, rivals, etc. - knows what her father has said about and to her. |
