I've heard some pretty ignorant things "circulating" in the media about the Don Imus incident. Heres my take on the situation!! One of the ignorant things I heard come from the mouths of racist White ppl, White conservatives, the White media, apologist Knee-grow leaders, and many on this board is the comparison between Don Imus and Black rappers. Heres the difference between the two. Black rappers are "fringe" characters much of it "Media" creation. Almost like Tony Soprano, and Don Corleon. There whole image is based around being Lewd and Lacivious. Don Imus "on the Other hand" is a well-respected radio personality. He USED TO BE a "Shock Jock". However, he crossed that line when he started having well-known/respected politicians on his show like Barack Obama, John McCain, and Harold Ford Jr. Which is the same reason why they are not coming after a**holes like Howard Stern who himself is a "fringe" character and uses racial remarks describing Blacks and other groups. Don Imus originally made the joke about the Wannabees and Jiggaboos. The plot from the Spike Lee movie "School Daze". Basically refering to the Light-skinned Black girls of the Tennessee as cute team and the Dark-skinned African featured girls of Rutgers team as "Nappyheaded Hoes". That is "my eyes" was waaaaaaaaay worse than had the girls of Tennessee's team been all-White. Because he did something that has been causing division in the Black community for centuries. And confirming every Black persons worse suspicion. That your light-skinned less "Negroid" featured Blacks: Your Halle's, Beyonce's, Tyra's and Vanessa's are more acceptable to the larger society and thus therefore are "immuned" to brunt of societies racism against Blacks. While your dark-skinned Blacks such as your Angela's, Whoopi, Lauryn's, and Fantasia's face the worst of it being Black and Women. They are almost given the status of being Handicapp. Do I believe Don Imus should have been fired? Yes!! But I also believe that your Blacks who think and act like him should be treated the same way as him if not worse. |
