No comments from Halle Berry, Vanessa Williams, Mariah Carey and all of those “straight-hair headed hos” in those rap videos produced by niggas who can’t even pronounce the word “bathroom” correctly (i.e., baffroom - - sad)? Wonder why? Hmmmm? Since so-called “blacks” supposedly come in all phenotypes according to the ODR and hypodescendency, one might (in(correctly)) think that there would be “black” outrage across the board, but no. The Imus incident may eventually degenerate into the volatile territory of Negroid-looking blacks vs. non-Negroid looking blacks. It’s only a matter of time before the mainstream media gets “wind” of the real physical differences in the so-called “black phenotype”, and who's got “peoples” at the back/nape of their neck, and who doesn’t. p.s., Don (Ho), the famous singer from Hawaii just died. What a coincidence. |

"Nappy-headed" is not the big issue here, Nels. It's "ho" and all the negativity that word brings to mind. Halle Berry did comment that nappy hair is nothing to be ashamed of and that she will soon begin filming as the lead in a picture based on the book "Nappily Ever After." |

One of the women at the center of this, the coach from Rutgers, isn't she a "straight-hair headed ho"? As is Julian Bond, and he was a powerful voice as well. I don't disagree with you though. I've never seen so many Authentic Blks in the media in my life. This cause was fought and won by Black people... But what else is new? |

I agree with you 150% Nels. And if you guys noticed that is what Don Imus said originally. He was actually making a comparison between the dark skinned Black women of Rutgers and the "supposed" light skinned Black women of Tennessee using the Spike Lee plot in his movie "School Daze". The "Wannabee" and the "Jiggaboos". What Don Imus did confirmed every Black persons worse suspicion. That lighter skinned Black ppl are more "acceptable" to society and thus therefore escape the "brunt" of societies Racism. |

"What Don Imus did confirmed every Black persons worse suspicion. That lighter skinned Black ppl are more "acceptable" to society and thus therefore escape the "brunt" of societies Racism." This pretty much answers Nels' question. This is why we haven't heard any comments from some. Even some of the lighter skinned people on this board have been silent. |

Honestly, I dont recall Berry et all making comments about anything political, really...so, I'm not surprised about their silence. Also, to me at least, MC aint black, except when she that short period when she was out of vogue, and attention greed Essence Magazine had her on the cover...abominable. Tonya, Imus losing his job isn't that big of a deal, really. Nothing at the end of the day has changed; it is a concession if anything. |

Such paranoia. A lot of darker skinned celebs didn't speak up about this issue either. And I don't agree that Imus' statement can be interpreted as reinforcing colorism. He was actually remarking about how well the Rutgers team was playing. His later reference to Spike Lee's movie was yet another cop-out in the same vein as the rap terminology excuse. |

Nels, I'm shocked! "...who's got “peoples” at the back/nape of their neck, and who doesn’t." That line is hysterical! Redbones aren't black, so no big deal we aren't hearing from the beige posse (i.e. Rangel, Bond, Williams, Berry, etc.) about nappy headed-dom. Then what do we do with the darker-skinned blacks with the "good," straight, and wavy hair particularly those of us who have Native American or East Indian heritage. Should we protest wih do-rags on our heads? HA-HA! I love it! |

Toubobie -- "Then what do we do with the darker-skinned blacks with the "good," straight" You know the "color" story is the real issue. Hair type doesn't mean diddly-squat. |
