Update on Fake "Defamation Trial" Professor Derrick Bell presented a "mock" Trial at the Law School of N.Y.University to argue that Kola Boof could have successfully sued T.V. Guide and The N.Y. Post for causing her to be fired from her writing job at "Days of Our Lives". Bell lost the case to a student lawyer! The majority of students agreed that: (a) Student playing Kola Boof was a poor witness and the real Kola should have participated (she did not). (b) They couldn't prove that T.V. Guide/N.Y. Post had "malicious intent" to Defamation of Character when they falsely identified Ms. Boof as a "sex slave" (b) It was already common knowledge that Boof had been Bin Laden's mistress, so it wasn't their fault how "soap viewers" reacted to their publicizing of the information. Note: In real life, Kola Boof did not pursue any type of legal case, because she didn't think it was worth it and because she generally doesn't believe in lawsuits. She also felt the show was a huge career-booster, because of "royalties" and her ability to do what most African American writers would kill to do---join the WRITERS GUILD OF AMERICA (most black writers never achieve the 24 Units--2 hours screen work (which must be aired on t.v. or exhibited in a movie theatre by a WG Production Company)-- it takes to be accepted as a member). "Days of Our Lives" airs in over 30 countries around the world and is repeated on SoapNet, so Ms. Boof continues to receive Royalties from SONY PICTURES and was given a "free" retirement penchant via the Writer's Guild, plus "free" Life Insurance, so she felt a lawsuit in real life would have injured her relationship with SONY, NBC and the Writer's Guild. Kola was flattered Prof. Bell wanted to fight for her and is grateful he introduced so many people at N.Y.U. to her literary works. Nappyhead Ho's Kola's been hired to write an essay for the Swedish Government's national magazine (in Socialist countries the governments own/publish the magazines). Kola will be writing about the world's "hatred" for Authentic Black Women and what she argues is "God's Hair" (African Hair). That will run in Sweden/Norway/Denmark this summer, but will be available online--unfortunately in Swedish. |
