And there ya have it. It never should have happened. The case was weak and flawed from the very beginning. What next.....? Duke DA apologizes to players By AARON BEARD, Associated Press Writer 12 April 2007 40 minutes ago The local prosecutor who charged three Duke lacrosse players with raping a stripper apologized to the athletes Thursday, a day after North Carolina's attorney general dropped the entire case. "To the extent that I made judgments that ultimately proved to be incorrect, I apologize to the three students that were wrongly accused," Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong said in a statement. On Wednesday, Attorney General Roy Cooper not only dropped all remaining charges against the players Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty and David Evans, but pronounced them innocent and said they were the victims of Nifong's "tragic rush to accuse." Cooper branded Nifong a "rogue" prosecutor who was guilty of "overreaching." "I also understand that whenever someone has been wrongly accused, the harm caused by the accusations might not be immediately undone merely by dismissing them," Nifong said. "It is my sincere desire that the actions of Attorney General Cooper will serve to remedy any remaining injury that has resulted from these cases." Nifong refused to answer any questions after handing the statement to an Associated Press reporter outside his office in Durham. Seligmann's attorney, Jim Cooney, responded bitterly to the apology. "You can accept an apology from someone who knows all the facts and simply makes an error," Cooney said. "If a person refuses to know all the facts and then makes a judgment, that's far worse — particularly when that judgment destroys lives."

I hope the DA's malpractice insurance policy is huge and paid up. Because if it's not, I'm figuring the good citizen's of Durham County are going to lose +10 MILLION BUCKS. |

Hmmm, they stand to win +10 MILLION BUCKS. That's peanuts compared to the +100 MILLIONS in fame and endorsements Kobe Bryant lost. Too bad for Kobe, niggers didn't call for the prosecutor's head in his case. This could have stopped him from losing a helluvalot more than any of these 3 white hooligans, who were going NOWHERE anyway, ever could. These white boys were drunks, johns criminals and downright BIGOTS way before anybody knew their names. Kobe Bryant on the other hand didn’t drink, he didn't party, he didn't smoke; even before he became famous he HAD a bright future and a SPOTLESS image. Too bad niggers aren't agonizing over all he's lost. Must be because he's Black. |

http://www.innocenceproject.org/ How much money did these young men's families spend on their defense? If it turns out that the DA/DAs office was negligent, biased, etc. then they should get this money back. And whatever amount they get, they should donate it to the Innocence Project to help men and women who are falsely accused--often to the point of spending years in prison--for crimes they did not commit, but who do not have the financial resources to fight such injustices. |

I actually think Kobe and these 3 white men are guilty as sin. Also, I don't even like Kobe. But if you're gonna give some rapists time off for good behavior Kobe Bryant seems to be a better candidate than these three white women bashing homophobic bigots who some whites and Blacks are feeling sorry for. |

Tonya - I'm curious to know what happened to all your rants about the so-called Duke rape "victim." The one you swore up and down was so virtuous and pure? And speaking of virtue - when corporations choose spokespeople, they (generally) want someone who is a role-model, someone honorable, someone who can keep his dick in his pants and not cheat on his wife and lie about it. Your boy Kobe was none of those things, since he admitted he "cheated" and lied, and his court case was about whether the sex between himself and the white woman was forced or consensual. ANd since Kobe didn't care about his reputation or endorsement contracts, what's it to you? BTW, there's no comparison between the two cases. None. The Duke men were declared innocent. Kobe will always have cloud.

Tonya, I must say I'm taken aback by you defense of a Black MAN. My only caveat is that I wish you'd reserve such for a brotha who's more worthy of such than Kobe. Do I believe Kobe raped the chick in Colorado? I don't know. I do know they had sex, apparently ANAL sex, to be specific. There was blood and some sexual trauma of some sort occurred during their encounter. So while I can say for certain he raped her, there sure was sufficient evidence to at least try him. I don't recall their ever being ANY objective, independent evidence - DNA, witnesses, circumstantial, etc. - that provided any justification for charging the Duke jocks with anything, much less trying and convicting them of such. So while I agree that Black men generally get treated far worse by the criminal justice systems than do White men, I do not think your juxtaposition of what happened with Kobe and what happened with the Duke La Crosse players provide a worthy example of what you decry. |

They raped the gal and walked because their parents got big money and powerful friends. Nifong did not behave any differently than he would have had in such a case--he just forgot he is in America. |

"They raped the gal and walked because their parents got big money and powerful friends." Uh huh, and that's why there was absolutely no physical evidence whatsoever to support that pathetically bogus charge. Although they did find enough male DNA inside her to repopulate NYC. Unfortunately, none of it belong to any of the Duke lacrosse players. But one out of two ain't a total loss Chris. Thank God their parents did have the bucks and connections to expose the utterly criminal and disgraceful antics of Michael Nifong. But who knows how may people who did not have the money to fight back against the contrived and fabricated evidence Nifong concocted, are sitting in prison.

U_S: "I find the timing of dropping these charges beeerry interesting." You mean as oppose to dropping the charges +10 months ago when it was CLEAR as spring water the DA had sh*t for a case? |
