OH. MY. GAWD!!! White people are once again trying to divert the issue with subterfuge! Now the issue isn't that Imus has repeatedly attacked black women in the most base terms possible--now it's okay because black rappers did it first. OF COURSE! Why didn't we think of that???? Black rappers invented the term "Whore" and of course it wasn't slave masters who coined the term "nappy". Slaves learned English and looked at one another and said "You sho' is nappy lookin' today!" Anything to deflect the guilt off of this racist white man! AS USUAL! |

We can't let them get away with it. All these racists need to be called out and kicked in the butt. Behold, people. Why the U.S. will fail in its attempt to lead the world. White supremecy is one of the cornerstones of this nation. They feel like they ought to be able to call black people out of their name and so what. Let's start talking about stringy haired peckerwood gals and see what happens. You can't lead the world and hold 90% of its people in contempt! |

A_girl, The word "whore" is an ancient Germanic word. Elizabethan writers were using the word. There is a German equivalent, "hure." The Old and Middle English for "whore" is "hore". (Old and Middle English were used between 700 and 1450 a.d., long before "rappers".) "Nappy" is descended from the word "nap," meaning(in the dictionary)the short, fuzzy ends of fibers on the surface of cloth drawn up in napping. Root words: Middle English noppe, Old English -hnoppa (in wullcnoppa, mistake for wullhnoppa, tuft of wool). Stop bullshitting, you white f/uck. |

I'm a little troubled by how blacks are acting as though they're feelings are hurt about this incident. There's an undercurrent of wimpish insecurity in all of this. OOoooh. That bad ol Don Imus called those college basketball stars sporting permed hair "nappy-headed hos". Screw Don Imus! He's a degenerate whacko with no credibility. The uproar has, in a way, empowered him. Go ahead and fire him. He'll find another job and a wider audience. |

I agree with Cynique. What black commentators should have done was simply dish Don Imus' bullshit back to him. Like Imus' ridiculous get-up. He looks like a sorry-ass cowboy wannabe. If enough black shock-jocks had jumped on Imus' ass, he would have been properly humiliated. |

Yes, and the message "to think before you speak" will also become a problem when black folks don't observe it. It ain't like black radio doesn't ridicule and disparage "YT". The silent white brotherhood will look out for Imus and all of his staff. Already there are people rising to his defense, liberals like Bill Mahr and James Carvel and even middle-of-the-roader Tom Brocaw. The Fox network will hire Imus to bulk up its ratings and it'll be business as usual. |

Let any black person with a show call a bunch of Jewish girls some wiry headed hooknosed little kikes and see how fast they'd be off the air. One reason why this keeps going on is because old Negroes have been sitting around taking it for so long. There needs to be retaliation so that these knaves are AFRAID to do this. |

STFU, chrishayden. Black folks have been boo-hooing for years about these types of slights. And, like sheep, they are placated by lip-service and token firings. What they need to do is blow people like Imus off and tell him what I am about to tell you, chrishayden. Kiss my black ass! Ain't nobody gonna say derogatory things about jewish girls because Jews have power. Get It??? Black people do have to power to make white folks look silly by telling them to go to hell. |

You're right Chris, As someone pointed out on TV today, there are too many black people who as soon as a white person points a finger of blame thier way, they pick it up and start groveling. Oh yessir it you're sooooooo right if the rappers hadn't been making up words like hos and nappy headed bitches in the first place, poor old whiteass Imus wouldn't have ever thought to use a racists phrase in his life. never mind that he has called two famous black women animals who need to be in national geographic and other racist remarks like that before...this is really you black people's fault so shut up and make those boys stop rapping FIRST, THEN you might be able to tell a white man to STFU. Maybe It's just subterfuge on white man's part like I stated before. Two separate issues that need addresses seperately |

How is telling somebody to kiss your ass groveling?? And I still say if you don't respect a person like Imus then you don't respect his opinons. And y'all are naive it you think the spate of black "leaders" jockeying for position to show their outrage don't welcome this opportunity to be in the spotflight and advance their same ol agendas. Rutger's women's basketball team is the best rebuttal to Imus because they are not 'hos and the fact that Imus called them that proves what an idiot he is. |

Whether Imus referred to Black women (or the Rutgers BB team) as skanks, skeezers, bitches, black hos, cocksuckers, or whatever is completely irrelevant. The problem is (IMHO) that here we are in 2007, the year that we're all supposed to be walking around in spacesuits and getting ready to live on Mars, and we're steady stuck in the 1950's where some racist hatemonger can casually make a nasty comment (over the international airwaves) and the only consequence is that lips are flapping and he gets a free vacation. Probably WITH pay. And a few months from now some other bastard is going to do the same exact thing - except there will be a different twist. And we (Black women) continue to drive on, dealing with all of the bullshit that we deal with daily, marching to funky jobs to receive less pay than white people, where we have to hustle three times as hard as white people, and we have to explain to our children why the white man can call us all a just as if it was a cough or a sneeze. I'm so sick of the whole shit. I don't take Imus' insult personally, but I know that his words will haunt FOREVER. Especially to those young ladies whom he addressed the comment to, but if you think about it his comment was really directed toward all of us.

That's life in America, Mzuri. Racism ain't goin no where, and this Imus incident just drives the wedge deeper between the black and white masses. Black women just have to resist allowing men of any race to define them. And once you discredit your detractors then you render them ineffective. I understand why this issue is creating such a furor. Blacks have to seize every opportunity to shame white people, and the white paternalistic powers-that-be will dutifully pat their querilous black children on the head and assure them that this won't happen again - until next time, you dumb-ass niggers. snort. |

anyway this was my response basically saying about the same thing you were saying. but still even then part of me still wants to see him fired while my first reaction was anger (and i still am angry) and would LOVE to see his ass fired.....i cant help but to admit that some of what madam anya said has alot of validity to it......the more you show anger and outrage the more effect an idiot can have. this is what he WANTED (controversy)...he wanted to feel important by making black women feel low and to actually be hurt by what he said or else he wouldnt have said it on purpose like he did. For us to feel angry or hurt only gives him power and makes him feel like his opinion of us is actually important to us and like we should GIVE a crap about what he thinks because he's suppose to be the great white man. It's kind of like what paul mooney said about taking the bite out of the n-word. this is not to get confused with systematic racism and racial profiling and the civil rights movement and things of that nature..those are all more IMPORTANT and detramental forms of racism that can actually hinder a person and they SHOULDN'T be ignored or looked over. while i admit i was very angered and what he said was hurtful these are just words and i have to question why i even allowed myself to give into it and feel the way i did about it...because i do believe that he was simply reiterating what about 90% of non-blacks (and alot of other black people) feel about black women anyway....so why does his opinion actually matter (wish i could find a better word) to me? perhaps if he would get no reaction whatsoever from black people that would have even more of an effect than reacting in outrage and we would win the psychological battle because then he and other whites who think like him wont feel so great. |

It isn't words but black people's continued silence on racism or that "oh just let it go" attitude that perpetuates outward acts of racism and continually fans the flames by allowing overt racist comments and those who make them to flow unchecked. No other group would ever stand by in silence and watch such attacks. EX. Mel Gibson's tirade against Jews. |

Do you call this big uproar an example of black people's continued silence?? And every time something like this incident crops up black spokesmen come forth publicly voicing their displeasure by making demands. But being vocal doesn't necessarily dispel racism. It just goes under ground and becomes subtle in its manifestation. And Mel Gibson is still around, plying his trade after offering his lame excuses. |

What black people think does not inhibit activists who speak out, a-woman. Focus on what is happening not, on trying to read people's minds! And just go on thinking racism isn't insidious. And go on thinking that if he comes out with a quality film, Mel Gibson won't be back on top. |

Chrishayden is so full of it, my computer is reeking with the foul odor emanating from his posts. He doesn't think the Rudgers women deserve an apology from Imus, but then has the nerve to talk about other women acting like doormats. He's biggest waffler around talking about black negro leaders one minute, and then turns around and praises them when it suits his purposes. And he is so desperate to shift the focus from his stupid arguments that he has to try and blame someone other than white racists for the death of Martin Luther King.
