A local High School in the St. Louis suburbs had a tradition of allowing a club or organization to collect tickets at football games and run the concession stand. This high school, Riverview Gardens was once all white. Now it is about 90% black. The same club kept running this function, even though most of them were white, and few of the adults doing it had kids at the school or even lived in the community. The Principal of the school decided he was going to let the students do it and keep track of the money. The first game they had they took in $7,000. This group has been collecting this money for 20 years. A woman who was supposed to run the concession stand at the game and did not know was alleged to have exclaimed, when told the kids would do it, "What? I got a mortgage to pay!" As of this date nobody knows how much money that the former group took in or what they did with it. This is in a district that has had money problems lately. It doesn't seem like it but these High SChool sports are money. Parents, look into this in your school! |
