Terrence Howard Blasts Black Stereotype Oscar nominee Terrence Howard jumped at the chance to narrate a new US TV documentary about modern black culture because it gave him the chance to air his own views. The actor, who played a pimp-turned-rapper in hit movie Hustle & Flow, admits he's appalled with his peers in the rap and hip-hop world and feels it's time someone like him stood up for well meaning African-Americans. He says, "I've been appalled for a number of years at what we have produced as a people, black people. Our music used to resonate in the soul and the heart and now our music has become something more common to a war theme .The beating of drums leads to anarchy. We've lost the message in our music and I wanted to speak about that." Howard's biggest issue is with those who use the 'N' word: "That word 'n**ger' that we've adapted and call ourselves by is evil. No good can come from an evil thing." - Terrence Howard pictures http://www.starpulse.com/news/index.php/2007/03/06/terrence_howard_blasts_black_stereotype |

I didn't see Hustle & Flow or Crash but something's not jiving right here. And wasn't he the person that tried to defend "the N word" on the Oprah Winfrey show before Oprah MADE him change his position?

Isn't this the SAME mofo who starred in a movie based on the triumphant recording of a song titled "It's Hard Out Here For a Pimp"? |

"The actor, who played a pimp-turned-rapper in hit movie Hustle & Flow, admits he's appalled with his peers in the rap and hip-hop world and feels it's time someone like him stood up for well meaning African-Americans." I guess his arm was twisted to take that role. What about the lyrics of the song that made a hit in the movie ? Didn't it say something about slapping a ho? He's trippin. |

What a piece of shit. If that's the way he truly felt, then he should have turned down the pimp role, and all the other stereotypical roles that he's had (thug in GetRichOrDieTryin, thief in BigMomma, and hustler in DeadPresidents - those are the only movies that come to mind) and applied his "talents" elsewhere. That would have been the right thing to do and that way his words would have been supported by backbone and action. But since he's a greedy selfish spineless son of a , he took that money and now he's going to try to preach to the rest of us about righteousness. Sadly for him, his pissy preachy faggotty rants will fall upon deaf ears. I hate him.

I can NOT believe Terrance let somebody take his picture, say those words and not call him on his role in Hustle and Flow..a movie I liked..I must confess. BUT it was not a role that put "us" in a very good light..seeing how he was a pimp..GRANTED he turned his life around..??and became a rapper..::who went to jail:: LiLi waving hand in da air as she humms "its hard out here for a pimp"LOLLOL |

Ya know, I have absolutely no problems with what he said......however, considering what he has been doing, where in the hell does he get off lambasting the very roles and language that he embellishes in his movies??? WTF??? He played the ultimate street coon in "Hustle and Flow" (which I did like), flawlessly personifying every behavioral nuance and the colorful language of a low level pimp wannabe rapper. And now this contradictory blather about playing negative roles and the "n" word?? Is it me??? What in the hell is this brother smoking...???????????

Tonya, Yes. Howard's character is a pimp in Hustle & Flow. And he's played hoods and unsavory types in Dead Presidents, Get Rich or Die Tryin' and Idlewild. Even his character in The Best Man was a negative stereotype of Black men (talented & charming, yet angry, lazy, unsettled and philandering). Not necessarily rebutting what Howard is asserting (If anything, I mostly BORED by it.). But given his resume, I can't help noticing the irony that HE's choosen to attempt to be a savior of Black art & culture. |

Btw: I actually admire the way Howard's able to portray villians. There's sort of charmingly crazed confusion amongst the malice of his characterizations that make them appear quite unique and authentic. |

The below list is not numbered, but it's the sixty movies/films that Terrence Howard has had or will have roles in. It looks as if he attained critical mass a few years ago and so he could have easily left the more recent derogatory stereotypical roles that he now denounces alone and chosen to portray positive and uplifting characters. But he didn't. Why? Because he's a money hungry publicity whore! And why does he even care how the Black man is portrayed anyway??? Hasn't he said that he really isn't Black??? He's a pathetic hypocrite and wish he would DIE!!! Luke Cage (2008) (announced) (in negotiations) .... DiamondBack Iron Man (2008) (pre-production) .... So you're saying that he wasn't in the position to let his conscience be his guide? He was forced to take on all of those stereotypical roles, due to financial constraints? Because he would have been homeless and starved to death otherwise? BULLSHIT!!!
