The megabucks pot has grown even larger, Babe, all the more incentive for us to make ourselves magnets for the riches that winning this lottery would bring into our meager existences. We must renew our determination and go forth, clear-eyed, and undaunted, heads held high, palms extended, greed suppressed, the image of stacks of C-notes vivid in our minds. Repeat after me: mo money, mo money, mo money... |

Yes, Dobes, money enables us to make choices in our lives. But I would have a hard time giving up WalMart and the Dollar stores. |

Yes the odds of winning can be programmed so that the pot can build up, but somebody has to win it, and you have to be in it to win it and a 10 dollar investment doesn't make or break me. Not only that, you don't have to score the grand prize to cash in. It pays off for 3 or more winning numbers. Now, where were we, Dobes, before we were so rudely interrupted? mo-money, mo money, mo money... |

LOL! Agreed. Those smaller prizes can come in very handy. I won a few hundred dollars once and it was great. I don't play lotto regularly, just whenever the mood strikes or I happen to be at a ticket dealer - I don't make special trips for this unless the grand prize is massive. I'm more into sweepstakes, because there are better odds. I've won some exciting things like a trip to New York to attend the Jackie Robinson Annual Awards Banquet (at the Waldorf-Astoria) and some other memorable prizes. And as usual, Chris is clueless. Lotto is NOT just for suckers. http://money.cnn.com/2007/02/20/magazines/fortune/lottery_winnings.fortune/index .htm

Mega Millions tickets selling on eBay Posted by Jesse Tinsley March 06, 2007 20:10PM Tickets for tonight's $370 million Mega Millions jackpot were so hot they were being sold on eBay for twice their face value. A Lakewood seller posted three tickets with six numbers for sale on one-day auctions that ended Sunday. One of the five-play tickets, which cost $5, sold for $11.61. Other five-play tickets sold for $7.80 and $6.90. But the would-be winners could be in for a surprise. Ohio Lottery officials said tickets sold on eBay or sent via mail across state lines are illegal and would be considered invalid under the lottery's rules. "If we found out that a ticket won that was either put up on eBay or purchased by someone on eBay, we could void the ticket," Ohio Lottery Spokeswoman Marie Kilbane said. Only licensed and bonded lottery retailers can sell tickets, Kilbane said Tuesday, after learning that at least one auctioneer had put tickets up for bid on eBay -- the online auction web site. "As soon as eBay knows about it they will pull it, because it's against their policy as well," Kilbane said. The Lakewood-based seller could not be reached for comment tonight. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2007/03/mega_millions_tickets_turning.html

2 Winners in Mega Millions $370M Jackpot By WAYNE PARRY Mar 07 11:23 AM US/Eastern ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) -- At least two people can claim a share of a record $370 million lottery jackpot, and there could be more winners _ California was still checking its Mega Millions results Wednesday morning, officials said. One winning ticket was traced to a Campark Liquors in Woodbine, N.J., and another to a market in Dalton, Ga., lottery representatives in the two states said Wednesday. "It's the most wonderful thing," said Campark Liquors manager Fern Gandy. "We have so many wonderful customers here. I'm just glad it was one of them." California's results were slowed by the high volume of sales, and state lottery spokesman Rob McAndrews said it would be at least midmorning before he knows for sure if there are more winning tickets out there. The other nine states struck out, said Mardele Cohen of the Ohio Lottery, which compiles all the states' information. The winning numbers: 16-22-29-39-42, with the Mega Ball 20. The odds of hitting it: about 1 in 176 million. Georgia Lottery Corp. spokesman J.B. Landroche said the winning ticket in his state was sold at Favorite Market in Dalton. Favorite Markets president Sam Turner told the Dalton Daily Citizen he believes someone living in his area could be the winner. "That's a store that's in a heavy industrial area, so odds are it's somebody that lives and works around there," Turner said. "Very few people get lost on Abutment Road, so my guess is it's a local, which from my standpoint, if that bears out, that's wonderful." Tuesday night's drawing was held in New York's Times Square in ABC's television studio rather than Atlanta after brisk sales pushed what had been an estimated $355 million jackpot estimate to a record $370 million. Even though the temperature was just 16 degrees, a handful of hopefuls showed up in Times Square to watch the drawing. Millions of others had lined up at lottery agents in the 12 states to buy tickets Tuesday. New Yorkers bought more than 1 million tickets an hour, said Robert McLaughlin, the state's lottery director. Virginia retailers sold about 8,550 tickets per minute. New York construction worker Andelko Kalinic had an idea of what he would do if his Mega Millions ticket paid off. "Go to the moon," he said. "Why not?" Some lottery hopefuls in Ohio never had a chance. Ohio's lottery ticket system went down statewide at about 10:20 p.m., 25 minutes before the deadline, Cohen said. The cause hadn't yet been determined. "For those people who wanted to make a wager and didn't get a chance, we're very, very sorry," she said. The largest previous multistate lottery jackpot was $365 million in when eight workers at a Nebraska meat processing plant hit the Powerball lotto. The Big Game lotto, the forerunner of Mega Millions, paid out a $363 million jackpot in 2000. Mega Millions tickets are sold in California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington state. http://www.breitbart.com/news/2007/03/07/D8NNEEJ80.html
