I know this doesn't really have anything to do with Black people, but I hate this and I'm happy that someone finally put her phoneynoactingfatass in its place! 'Bordertown' Booed at Berlinale February 16, 2007 Everyone was excited about Jennifer Lopez coming to town for the premiere of Gregory Nava's "Bordertown" at the Berlin International Film Festival. But the premiere audience reacted to the movie with boos and muted applause. Jennifer Lopez must have thought she was doing something noble when she agreed to star in Gregory Nava's "Bordertown." An indie movie about a series of murders of young women in the Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez? A far greater thing than the usual big-budget romantic comedies she stars in, surely. Unfortunately audiences at the movie's premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival were not so convinced. The first ominous signs came at the press screening on Thursday afternoon, when the film was booed by the audience, apparently annoyed that Nava had decided to make a B-movie thriller out of such a tragedy. Then there were boos during the official premiere on Thursday evening, and applause at the end was muted. J-Lo looked visibly upset. Reviews in the German papers Friday were hardly any more complementary. "Actually the subject matter is important," writes the mass circulation BZ. "But one can't take La Lopez seriously in her role for a single moment: She simply too cute and too J-Lo!" The newspaper rates the movie's chances of winning a Golden Bear award as "slim." The Berliner Zeitung says the film is "funny, but unintentionally" reporting that viewers at the press screening had reacted with "frenetic laughter" at supposedly serious scenes. However the film is also "pretty distasteful" at the same time: the critic accuses J-Lo of exploiting the real suffering of the Mexican women in order to become a star in the Central American market. "It's no coincidence that the film is coming out at the same time as her new record, the first where she sings entirely in Spanish," the paper writes. Still, J-Lo can take some solace in the fact that at least Amnesty International likes the movie: she was awarded the human rights non-governmental organization's "Artists for Amnesty" prize on Wednesday evening in recognition of her role in publicizing the murders. http://www.spiegel.de/international/0,1518,466779,00.html

any fall that j-lo takes, i feel abit happy about. she is a big phony. first she uses a simple ass negro (puff daddy/diddy whatever), who basically turned her into a megastar, to become famous. then she splits with him, for the white man (ben affleck), to be seen as "white friendly" or something. now she has her rich, "worm-like" puertorican husband (marc anthony). i really didn't like j-lo ever since she said her parents didn't want her dating "black guys". i guess if the "black guy" has a lot of money and can make you a star, then it's cool. i think j-lo is pretty dam sexy and a very good dancer, but- she can go and f*ck herself. i hope she stays out of the public eye. |

Sad. Is that really her in the photo, wow…? A lot of her people are upset with her because she supposedly "sold out" in her community. Everyday Hispanics can't stand her AT ALL. I feel sorry for her though because it does appear she really is trying (really really really really HARD) to make up for whatever she's done wrong. I don't know what she actually did - don't know much about her career - so I won't judge whether they're being too hard on her. All I got to say regarding them is, damn them Hispanics don’t play (!), lol. But her---for her---I honestly do feel sorry. (It could be the picture though, goddamn.)

Tonya - We're not a bunch of proofreaders here. LOL. Anyway, I don't hate J-Lo as in seriously despise, I just don't like the way that she seems to think she's the greatest thing since sliced bread and how she seems to use people (as Z stated above) it's almost as if she goes with whomever can do the most to further her career. You see how she kicked Puff to the curb as soon as he got into trouble with that nightclub shooting incident. I mean damn, if you're in a serious relationship, you stick with it when things go wrong. I saw a magazine cover once where she said that she had such a "big life" as if the rest of us are so insignificant. She's more prominent than ordinary commoners, but we all get 24 hours a day and life is what you make it. Our lives are just as big to us as hers is to her. And these people who think they can sing, dance, design, model, act and everything else get on my nerves too. I think she's about played out.

Well at least J-Lo didn't marry a white man, but instead wed fellow Puerto Rican, Marc Anthony. And everybody makes bad career moves which is what appearing in this movie seems to have been. I like J-Lo. I watch her dancing as one of the fly girls on the "In Living Color" reruns and ol Jenny from the block can really get down. |

Mzuri, That’s precisely the impression I get from some Hispanics.... She’s got her head in the clouds - gotten too big for her britches. I never liked her, either, until now. She looks so pitiful in that picture. And I blame Puffy more for what went down. She played him out in the open. It was like she didn’t care if people knew why she was with him. She was phony and transparent and rather sloppy; and that's why I blame Puffy, it was TOO obvious and disrespectful. And, I know Puffy doesn’t represent all Black people, but, while they were together, it sort of made Black men (particularly Black men in hip-hop) look like chumps. It was embarrassing. |

she does look pitiful, and she seems to be aging poorly....also, she is NOT Mexican in the first place, so one would think the Mexican community would want their own playing this role, at least someone from Central American. I'm not sure who heads Amnesty International, but the fact that she got a nod from them probably even worsened the situation! |

i heard that hispanics do have a problem with other latinos who are not from their culture portraying them...so maybe some of that is the reason she got booed. |

Mexicans did resent having J-Lo chosen to portray the lead in the movie about the short tragic life of Tejano singing star Selena. But once the picture came out, they forgave J-Lo since she did such a good job. |

Jennifer Lopez is a woman who made her career "off the backs" of colorstruck Black men only to shake her ass to them once she reached the top. She can't sing, act and is a mediocre dancer. Her only appeal was that she "fit" Hollywoods new "Exotic Hot Latina" craze. I will admit she has a beautiful body. But I never been a big fan of her "hardlooking face". Her dancing which was her main breadwinning attribute, singing and acting was a by-product of that. SHE IS PLAYED THE OUT NOW!! And everybody realizes it except her. She is a "poster child" of "When you are Hot you're Hot and when you are Not you're not. TAKE A LESSON BEYONCE!! This is what happens to mediocre celebrities who are overexposed/overhyped. |

Yes, I know that the "in living color" era is over but J-Lo is out there doing her dance thing again on either MTV or VH1 with a dance version of American Idol. |

You forgot about Oprah! Poor J-Lo. I kind of feel guilty for posting this and gloating about her misery. She does look really pitiful and sad in that pic - she must have felt awful

Apparently she is being congratulated for her potrayl in this movie and highlighting the horror that happened to these four hundred women (in the british press anyway). I feel she is going down a different direction now, maybe wants to enroach on what Selma Hayek has going on (she is far more credible). The thing is, J-Lo plays the Latina role because it once suited her. Her and her husband were asked to speak up about a famous hollywood's star horrible comments about latin american people and the language et cetera and they made excuses as to why they couldn't. Probably trying to distance themselves away from that due to the bad press some latins get in america...? Who knows. I do believe J-Lo's actions showed she used people and their image when it suited her. |
