Let me start off by saying that I am happy as Hell for JHud! However, I am a little concerned for Beyonce. I mean I'm beginning to think that was a bad career move for Bey doing Sport Illustrated. Matthew should have lobbyed to have his daughter do something else like the cover of another Fashion mag. For instance Vogue=Cosmo or Vogue=Marie Claire. Does anybody else think Bey isn't suffering the after effects of Overexposure?? Look at the white actress Jessica Simpson she is now reduced to doing Pizza Hut commercials. What do you think? |

The white media love to build a person up so they can bring them down. On CNN the other day they did a segment on her referring mostly to her dancing skills and showing clip after clip of her doing "the booty dance," from back in her booty dancing days. I said to myself, here it comes...poor Beyonce...cuz I don't think she's ready for it.

As sexists as it is, being chosen for the cover of Sports Illustrated's annual swimsuit issue is a coveted honor, one that every model would love to appear in her resume. Sports Illustrated is, of course, a male magazine and this once a year issue is the one that garners a lot of hoopla and publicity. Or is making this cover a voluntary thing; the choice is the decision of the editors and this "honor" came at the right time for Beyonce because it helps to deflect some of Jennifer's hype and the editors undoubtedly took into consideration how having Beyonce on its cover would send sales skyrocketing. |

BTW, Tyra Banks was the first black woman to make the cover of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue. I repeat: being chosen for this "honor" is quite a feather in the cap of any female celeb. |

right, cynique. it is sexist, as it is an honor, but for models, mainly....now that Tyra has done the first 'negro woman' thing, I wonder if Beyonce would embrace this opportunity they way a model would. And, it too deflects attention from JH; also, and I'm tired of this, it is another way of embracing yellow or should I said faired skinned black women. I would LOVE to see Serena Williams on the cover of SI. It is unusual for SI to have someone w/Beyonce's body on the cover, though I haven't seen what version of Beyonce they will have. That is, if its the thyke Beyonce or her smaller, white gurl lightened version....I want to see a chocolate, athletic sista like Serena Williams...I'd buy that bad boy! |

I feel the same way Yukio. However, Cynique I would have felt alot better if Bey did a more coveted fashion mag like Harper's Bazaar. She has been on the cover before however, I think that would have been a better way to deflect from the attention JHud is receiving. |

Sports Illustrated is the premier magazine about sports so I am sure a superb newsmaking female athlete like Serena Williams has graced its cover many times. But once a year the editors cater to its horny male readership and feature on its cover, a sexy, scantily-clad woman whose only athleticism is the ability to pose seductively. |

Again I just think this was a "poor" attempt to detrack from some of the attention that JHud was getting. I believe Matthew was sitting around trying to figure out ways to take away some of the JHud "hype". So he called around to see which magazine would allow Beyonce to be on the cover. And it came up SI. She should have tried to do a coveted fashion mag like "Harper's Bazaar or W" magazine. |

This book should give people a sense of what (has happened and) is about to happen to Beyonce. BLACK SEXUAL POLITICS African Americans, Gender, and the New Racism by Patricia Hill Collins Modern American popular culture relentlessly mocks Black sexuality. From bootylicious rap videos to exploitative paternity tests on the Jerry Springer show, African Americans are frequently cast as hypersexual animals. Even as long ago as 1800s Paris, where a scantily clad "Hottentot Venus" was displayed in a cage, western culture has exploited a stereotype of African Americans as oversexed beings. To confront social inequality, African Americans need an analysis of Black masculinity and femininity that questions the links between prevailing Black sexual politics, their connection to black gender ideology, and struggles for African American empowerment in response to this new racism. Now, in BLACK SEXUAL POLITICS: African Americans, Gender, and the New Racism {Routledge; Hardback; ISBN: 0-415-93099-5; $26.00 U.S., $28.95} Patricia Hill Collins—one of America's most influential writers on race and gender—provides such an incisive and provocative analysis. Collins rejects the prescriptive approach of many Black self-help books and instead argues that becoming empowered means learning how to think for oneself. The ideal of pure white womanhood, Collins asserts, required the invention of hot-blooded Latinas, exotic Suzy Wongs, and wanton jezebels—images that persist in the media today in everything from animal-skin bikinis to the creation of the "welfare mom." Men confront a similar bias in a society that defines African American males as drug dealers, brutish inarticulate athletes, irresponsible fathers, and rapists. The author dissects the widespread impact of these distorted social messages exploring topics such as: History of the new African American racism African American love relationships Sex in youth culture Portrayals of African Americans in mass media and popular culture Interracial romance Sexual violence HIV/AIDS. In addition, Collins includes a helpful glossary of terms—making this an informative book not only for the academic, but also for the layman. Since African Americans are not the only ones who grapple with issues of sexual politics, the author invites readers of all races to consider how the questions raised might inform their own social justice images and experiences. Author Collins addresses the need for African Americans to rebel against the ideas and practices that disempower them, underscoring different conceptions of femininity and masculinity that do not simply mimic those of White men and women, but that reflect the needs of actual lived Black experience and that contribute toward building a true democracy in the United States. A revolutionary work that touches the intimate and public lives of African Americans, BLACK SEXUAL POLITICS clearly illuminates the subtle interplay of race, sex, and politics in American culture today. About the Author: Patricia Hill Collins is Charles Phelps Taft Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of African American Studies at the University of Cincinnati. She is author of Black Feminist Thought, which won the C. Wright Mills Award of the American Sociological Association, as well as Fighting Words: Black Women and the Search for Justice. She lectures widely in the United States and abroad. http://www.routledge-ny.com/util/resources.asp?filename=hillcollins_release.htm

Jay Z to Beyonce: "I Need My Space" Rumors fly every time Beyonce shows up at an event without Jay Z on her arm. But today, I heard from a source who claims Jay Z may have grown wary of Beyonce's antics and called it quits with the songstress. My source said Beyonce has been "throwing fits" and behaving like a "prima donna" since Jay Z started devoting more time to his rap career. "Beyonce felt like his career was taking precedence over their relationship," said the source who asked to remain anonymous. "There's a lot of tension between them now [because] he has a lot of outside [business] interests." Until recently, the couple attended A-list events together. But Beyonce didn't accompany Jay Z to his Cherry Coke endorsement party last week and tongues really started wagging when Beyonce appeared at the Grammys alone. My source said Jay Z supported Beyonce's career while he shuffled papers as President of Def Jam. "Now that he's doing his own thing he feels free," said the source. Apparently Beyonce is having an especially difficult time dealing with the attention and adulation Jennifer Hudson has received for her role in 'Dreamgirls'. "Losing that [Vogue cover] rocked her world," said the source. "She was really upset over that. She instructed her PR people to take Jennifer's name off the guest list for her post-Grammy party." My source also pointed out Jay's name wasn't on the guest list either. "She wants Jay to clear his schedule to devote more time to her. But Jay wants his space," said my source. "He's over her."

dude i just know you didn't compare manly ass looking serena to beyonce. she wouldn't even holler at you anyways dog ... unless your a rich white boy. i give her and her sister props for being excellent tennis players, but serena is not fine. she just has an ass you would need assistance climbing on but that mug is nothing nice. and yall's girl j-hud or whatever is doing her thing, let her shine ... but don't do the 50 cent thing. you know where you have to put other people down so that you can make someone else seem like their standing taller... that is a sucker move. and cynique is right, both the williams sisters have been on the s.i. cover for the same reasons they have been on the espn covers, because they are outstanding athletes ... but they aint domique dawes, flo jo, or some of those fine ass track girls... so stop frontin. |

serena is not hot, infact venus looks better than her. beyonce is so hot you beotches can't go the rest of this month talking about her delicious sweet honey ass. and double-s ... the only one you ever bring up is gabrielle union, yeah she's tight ... but serena williams, dudes only think of that rumpus. i'll route for her when she goes against other people on the tennis court, but she can't hang with the entertainer babes. nice try on the attempt to bait me with the light/dark crap. |

When I accused you of hating Black women(which I think you do)you pulled Gabrielle Union out of your ass and you now all of a sudden think she is FINE!!(Which she is)!! However, before this you never had anything nice to say about her. I just wish Black men like you were more honest. YOU HATE BLACK WOMEN!! And that is Okay!! Alot of Black men do. You will just be joining the growing list of Black American men in this country. |

beyonce has just been over-exposed. angelina jolie is seen sparingly in the media, so there is a type of mystique surrounding her. you see beyonce every dam day in the press. people get tired of seeing the same people over and over again. this is why there is a desire for jhud (wow we are calling her j-hud, like j-lo). beyonce better be careful, or she might find herself "yesterday's news". and doberman 23- YOU ARE RIGHT!!!!!!!!! venus williams is WAY more attractive that serena. serena williams is just way too developed (muscle wise). serena is just too dam built. venus on the other hand, is tall, slim, and pretty. i really need to meet venus williams!!!!!!!!!! |

Beyonce has been on quite a few 'high fashion' magazines (and on ones that are simply aimed at women). I can totally see why she went for SI...whether or not it is a bit sleazy it is a typr of 'honour' (hate using that word for gracing the cover of a sport's magazine lol). I think her and Hudson have gone in different directions and hopefully they will stop being compared as they are two totally different women with different styles. Comparing them will just be detrimental to one or the other (whichever way your bias flows). And I am sorry, Serena isn't a looker. She is much prettier in comparison to Venus but she isn't cute. Great tennis player though and I was SO glad when she got her title back! I like the fact she is fiesty too, and ironically, I like the fact that she exudes confidence and doesn't care if she doesn't fit the stereotype of mainstream good looks. She is still spunky enough not to give a shit and wear what she wants! |

i think it was a smart move for her to do sports illustrated......white women do sports illustrated all the time and it never sullies their image so it really shouldnt have to sully her image jsut because she's black. there's nothing wrong with a black woman being seen as a sex image. its not like the girl is butt ass naked in sports illustrated...dam she's wearing a bikini. |

"Jhud" sounds too much like "Jhad", but considering how Jennifer's raging popularity is terrorizing the idolized Beyonce, on second thought, this might not be a bad comparison... just a little side bar in the light-skin vs. dark-skin trial. |

You know I never once hated on Tyra. And Dobes you are an colorstruck, asshole who hates Black women. So there now we are even. Or do you want more? Oh and another thing you better believe I am Elitist but not towards my own ppl like you Asswipe. I practice it on ppl who deserve it. And Abm he is not hurting me I know how to handle him. All I need to do is throw a White cock his way so he can suck on it and that will keep his punk ass quiet. Actually, I have never once hated on Tyra. I am in love with Tyra LOL!! I am a huge fan of hers. I take issue with Halle Berry because she thinks that she should get the roles that are geared towards authentic "Black women". And I take issue with Beyonce and Mary J. Blige because they are selling White supremacist images to little Black girls. They send the message that the only way to be acceptable is look like "A White ". But all that aside I love there work. I think Beyonce has an incredible work ethic. I also think that Halle Berry and Aisharwya Rai(Bollywood actress) are the two most "beautiful women in the world". I also am a little concerned for Beyonce's career. I don't want to see her "fade away into oblivion". She should take a lesson from Jennifer Lopez. Jennifer Lopez is the "poster child" for what can happen to an overexposed celebrity. Five years ago we couldn't get enough of "Jenny from the Block". Now you barely see or hear of Jennifer Lopez. Its a shame. |

And lets be honest Lil_ze you wouldn't give Venus or Serena the time of day. In fact they are the type of Black women that you "despise". Dark-skinned, outspoken, and not afraid to express there sexuality. But one thing brothas like you love to do to Venus and Serena Williams(especially in the presence of your white girlfriends) is hurl "Blackity Black" jokes at them. And make fun of there skin color and hair texture. But date/marry or even be caught within there presence in the "light of day". YOU WOULD NOT!! |

Actually, Dobes Lil_ze does discriminate and does not hide his preference for White/Light-skinned women and has no problem with calling dark-skinned Black women "Black and Ugly". Or were you asleep all those times? Cocksucker!! And you are right I don't like ethnic Ethiopians which you have a preference for because of there non-African features. well...I stand behind [thats right behind] Serena, though I wouldn't kick Beyonce out of the bed! Actually, Beyonce's make-up artist did a better job than Serena's. This is a typical problem for the darker sistas...folk don't know how to dress up, do their hair, etc...one of my ex-girlfriend is a singer, and her make-up was always exaggerated for the stage, but it seemed like the make-up person felt more comfortable w/the fairer sistas...while this does create a greater opportunities for make-up artist of color, all of dem cats need to have that kind of expertise if they are going to call themselves a make-up artist... I'm in the PNW, and a friend of my can't even find an affordable hair stylist...and all she wants is braids....my bad, I'm rambling! |

Dobes, Sorry, bruh. I prefer women to mannequins. If I'm in the minority in that regard, I can live with that. Yukio, After you've put in some serious workout with Serena, I'm figuring cutting with Beyonce will be easier than running a hot knife through warm butter. |

define racists in this instance yukio. these are two young black women, you choose A or B. your assumption is that just because someone selects B instead of A then they are automatically racists. they are both black so technically it is impossible to say that those who would select one or the other is a racist. if i put rhinana next to beyonce then it can only be a fair contest? i am trying to figure out your way of thinking man. |

doberman23: no, i don't assume that if one chooses Beyonce rather than Serena, this means that the person is racist. It means that this country since the 17th c. has deemed with ill favor dark skinned women. And this has continued since then in all of media. Perhaps I should have said colorist, but to me, while they are not the same, racism birthed colorism. At any rate, this is a racist ass society, and part of this racism includes a very long history and present of affirming white skin, european features, etc...I am sure you are aware of this history...now, anything that is NOT african[though not all Africans look alike] is embraced. Thus, if you watch all of these music videos, movies, sitcoms, soap operas, etc...most of the African descended woman are generally light skinned or look like another continental group[here is my attempt tonya of not using racial categories]. And this is men of African descent born in the U.S. and the Caribbean who are in control of these music videos, and European-Americans in the case of film, television, magazine covers, etc.... Thus, it is generally accepted in this country and others [see the case of Africans using skin lighting cremes]that white skin or not dark skin is preferred. But you know this dont you? Under that burden, it is no surprise that the majority of our men would pick yellow sista...cuz they, we, have been brainwashed to do so since the 17th c....the other sista from the caribbean...i think most bruthas would pick beyonce because of the thickness factor...

Outraged Sports Illustrated readers are flooding the SI offices with angry phone calls and emails demanding subscription cancellations. The furor erupted after Sports Illustrated's celebrated annual "Swimsuit Issue" hit the stands with Beyonce on the cover and an inside shot of a smug Kanye West gripping a models derriere. (a WHITE model) Angry comments have been posted on this site as well as other blogs and message boards. "Is this the Swimsuit Issue or the Ghetto issue?" read one post. A source inside the SI mail room emailed me to say longtime subscribers are angry. "The calls are nonstop," she wrote. "Some of these guys have been subscribing to Sports Illustrated for years just so they can get the Swimsuit Issue before it hits the stands. This is like blasphemy to most of them who don't know who Beyonce or Kanye are." A local newspaper reporter who asked not to be identified said, "So many women grew up identifying with the models in the Swimsuit Issue. They don't see themselves in Beyonce. SI has made a mockery of their core demographic with this issue." So far, SI hasn't commented publicly on the complaints. But insiders say SI is discreetly emailing members of the mainstream media emphasizing the point that the Swimsuit Issue is a "Music Issue". But critics are asking how can it be both? "They should make up their minds," wrote one angry poster on a sports-related board. "Either it's the Swimsuit Issue or the Rap Issue. SI can cancel my subscription!" |

Tonya -- "Goddamn nigggerrrs are hating on Serena Willaims - A Dark-Skinned Black." I don't agree. I believe that what they may dislike is her attempt to use so-called Caucasian beauty standards to accomplish a look-and-feel that she will (never) achieve - unless she goes under the knife and does a Michael Jackson, fast forward 2007. A kind of "phony" appearance is all that she seems to have accomplished, and this overshadows her stellar achievements as a tennis star and businessperson. Hell, Oprah is uglier than Medusa, but with the exception of those hair weaves, she at least realizes that she's going to look like a "muffin rolled over by ten 80,000 lb. Kenworth's haulin' logs" for the rest of her rich-as-sh*t natural black life. |

Well, Lil-z, you and I have gone a couple of rounds on this subject, but this time I agree with you that an 18 year-old-girl is fair game for any man who likes em young and tender. It's not like an 18 year old can't say "no." And if she says yes" it's all legal and she might gain her a "sponsor" in the process. And there's someting to be said for keeping company with an older, sophisticated, more experienced, financially-secure man as opposed to a 18 year old jerk with raging hormones. |

BB123, Men who like to pursue young women and girls generally are the types who lack sufficient intellect, game and sexual stamina, skill & talent to woo and maintain relations with older women. Look. A young chick might be super fione and fun to bone and all. But there will QUICKLY come a point when I'll be treating her like someone else's kid. And while some men get off on the pedophile thing, I'm more apt to prefer a woman's who's more of a challenge. |

Well everybody's entitled to their own opinions and that's what all of the "assertions" on this subject boil down to. To each his own as long as the line is not crossed. The age of consent is 17 so if the law is not violated, personal preferences are just that: personal preferencs. |

ABM: Men who like to pursue young women and girls generally are the types who lack sufficient intellect, game and sexual stamina, skill & talent to woo and maintain relations with older women. I agree with this, though i can see where brownbeauty is coming fro also. I know quite a few young people who are extremely mature but that maturity is always prohibited by their lack of experience. There again, there are many older people who lack life experience. Comes down to the individual THOUGH most older men who go for young girls do it because they are impressionable and easier to manipulate. I realise this so much now looking at friends et cetera. |

Latina_wi, I agree that age does NOT always dictate one's level of maturity. Inate intellect and inclinations combined with life experiences play a HUGE role in how mature one is. Still, on average, an older woman is more likely to more mature - at least in the ways I'd require - than a younger woman. |

Why do all older men who pursue young females have to be impotent insecure wimps???? Consider another scenario:they are virile worldly guys, bored with the same ol same ol, looking for something different and refreshing in the person of a nubile pristine young woman. Or maybe they're lusty control freaks looking for love slaves. The possibilities are endless as to why an older man would pursue a 18-year-old. |

"Why do all older men who pursue young females have to be impotent insecure wimps???? Consider another scenario:they are virile worldly guys, bored with the same ol...........The possibilities are endless as to why an older man would pursue a 18-year-old." I agree. Once she is 18, done deal! I feel she is fair game -legally, just like the law says. But to be honest, I'm not on board with these extremely harsh and punitive laws about girls that are 17 or 16. Why? Because you really don't know how old they if they tell you they are you they are 18 or 19. Case in point. I'm a very friendly guy and I talk to women all the time. Often when I am at a public service setting, I converse with the female cashiers or desk attendants. Often times I ask if if they are in college and they tell me no -they are still in high school. And there are times when they are in college. I can't tell. But my excuse (if you want to call it that), once again, is that I can't really tell. These girls are so physically mature, tall and big. Case in point, I'm a short guy at 5' 11" and most of the women I know who have young daughters -their daughters are all taller than I am!! You can't always accurately judge by physical appearance alone (who is legal and who is not). I never was raised around a lot of kids (only child) and I have lived in an adult world all my life. Most adults have raised children, have kids currently in their homes or are constantly exposed to kids. I'm not. So, it's hard for me to discern between a 20 year old female or one who is 18, 17 or even 16. They all appear to be very young and that's all I can recognize. I'm sure this sounds insane but that's the way it is. As I said, I've lived in an adult world all my life so my skills at making these age discernment's are not as good as most of the readers (I assume most are parents). Bottom line is this, I think a lot of men can be easily duped as I could because they can't tell and these girls will lie about their age in a heart beat. The only thing that saves me is I have never been attracted to very young women. Even when I was very young, I always like older women. Even when I was a teenager, I was never into teenage females. So this adult male lusting of young tender loins does not apply to me. I recall when I was in high school, there was a woman who worked in the front office. She was a student counselor or administrator (I don't recall). She was in her early thirties, Greek, not very attractive, short but she was extra "t h i c k" and very curvy! She had a very small waist, large diamond shaped calves, wide hips, very thick thighs and a large protruding rack! That's all I saw! I did enough mental raping, lusting and sexually perverted fantasizing to doom me to hell at the age of 17. Unfortunately, she died before I graduated. I think it was a brain aneurysm. But all I could think of was drilling this woman every time I saw her. So, I really do not understand this obsession for very young females by a large percentage of men. It's not my thing and as an adult male, as I stated, I really cannot explain nor rationalize it.

Ntfs, Were I single, could I lay wood to an 18 year old: In theory, SURE. She's legal and she should be physically prepared for the Roscoe. But would I actively pursue and woo an 18 year old: FUHK NAW, mayne! 'Cause at this stage of my life, I much more prefer my woman mature and my coochie properly krausen. PS: You brothas who are in Hot, Heavy & Harddyck pursuit of Tight & Tender cQQchie had better dayamwell do your proper Due Diligence. Because there are some pre-20 somethings out there who have done some shyt that would make Jenna Jamison and Vanessa Del Rio blush & wince. |

"So, it's hard for me to discern between a 20 year old female or one who is 18, 17 or even 16. They all appear to be very young and that's all I can recognize." I can't tell the difference either. A lot of these young teenage girls look older than me, and it has a lot to do with them being significantly overweight which adds age to your appearance. |

"I can't tell the difference either. A lot of these young teenage girls look older than me, and it has a lot to do with them being significantly overweight which adds age to your appearance." This is very true. In fact, my mom and I were talking about this recently. She lives in Ohio and she was telling me how big these teenage girls are today. You are correct, their overweight physicality adds to the perception of being much older than they are. I have a friend who has a daughter who wears a size 10 shoe -at ten years of age! As I mentioned before, I have friends whose teenage daughters were my height and taller. I'm talking about girls who are 14, 15 and 16! In fact, my best friend has a daughter who is 11 years old, wears a size 10 shoe, weights about 135-145 and is about 5'7"! When I was about 25, I recall meeting a woman downtown when I was waiting for a bus. She had a nice blouse on, tight jeans, high heels and stood about 6'3" in her bare feet. Now remember, she had on high heels. So you can imagine me at 5'11" standing next to a woman in high heels who is about 6'3" without heels -quite a sight! Needless to say, my testosterone and adrenaline meters were pegged and I leaped off the bench to aggressively engage her. She was extremely friendly and very talkative. As you know, most women who are very tall have long legs, long arms and somewhat short torsos. What made this woman so unique is that she had the body symmetry and proportions of a woman 5'6" or 5'7" -not the conventional tall lanky physique. She had wide hips, small waist, nine star booty, big boobs and as I stated, very proportionate. To make a long story short after talking to her a while, I could sense the youthfulness in her and the subtle immaturity. I found out the girl was 17 ( or was it 16?) and still in high school! But she was dating a guy who was in the Navy! That was the end of that. Done deal.... |
