Minister: Black History Month worth 1 cent February 7, 2007 By Loresha Wilson ljwilson@gannett.com For the second time this month, today a North Carolina minister put Black History Month up for sale on eBay for one cent. The Rev. Paul Scott, founder of the Messianic Afrikan Nation, says Black History Month has been hijacked by white corporations and has no relevance. The value is one penny, he said. According to eBay, the purchase of an ownership certificate gives “permission to use Black History Month as you see fit.” “I hope this campaign raises awareness that we really need to take of our culture back,” Scott said. “To borrow that line from the ‘Lion King’ we are much more than we have become and we need to let the next generation know that.” Scott alleges the American education system has led people to believe black history didn’t exist prior to slavery, and now the children are taught “cotton picking” history. He says it’s reflected in the entertainment industry and now blacks are writing songs about ghetto fried chicken. Scott emphasizes that the black church is a culprit in destroying black culture by creating sanctified slaves and not teaching the Afrocentric approach to the bible. Last year, he called for a boycott of all Black History Month festivities sponsored by white owned or operated corporations. Scott plans to list the ad on eBay through the end of February. It must be renewed every 10 days. “Whites have given us a slave white/wash version of black history. We need to take control of our culture and our history,” he said. http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070207/BREAKINGNEWS/ 70207021 |

This is an extremely poorly written article. Anyone can sell nearly anything at eBay, and what is contained in an individual's eBay ad description is not "according to eBay," the above should read "according to Paul Scott's eBay ad" This gentleman isn't even selling Black History Month - the sale is for a certificate. Further, he is in desperate need of some very basic eBay copywriting skills. His ad is just plain sad: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270087447215 None of what Paul Scott has stated in the above article is contained in the eBay ad, so he's not really spreading any message via eBay other than cheapening something which we should all hold sacred, making himself a laughing stock, and reinforcing the notion that Black people are not "articulate." He seems like one of those sorry negroes who expects white people to make Black History Month a happening event for us. Judging by the looks of his poorly executed eBay ad, I'm certain his certificate looks like crap as well. Not even worth a cent or any effort to attain. It's no wonder Black History Month has no relevance with "leaders" such as these and their lame tactics. The "minister" and the "reporter" ought to jump off a fucking bridge together. What morons
