I thought it was as very incisive article by a woman descended from slaves. Many black spokesmen, including Frederick Douglas and Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Dubois and Martin Luther King, and Jesse Jackson even Malcolm X down through the years have been branded "Uncle Toms and "sell-outs" by malcontented blacks whose only agenda is to canonize underdogs. |

Dickerson makes some interesting points regarding the hyping of Obama and why some Black leaders (I use that term loosely) might be slow to embrace his presidential candidacy. Still, I seriously doubt these leaders will be able to persuade most Black foks that Hillary Clinton and John Edwards would be better suited to lead this country. And the more it appears Obama can win (and/or Clinton & Edward cannot), the more they'll be pressured by their own constituency to support him.
Ultimately, Obama not being a descendent of American Slavery will prove a non-issue for most Black foks. Because for Black foks to use that to avoid supporting him they'd have to reach some bizarro conclusion WHITE foks (like Clinton, Edwards and/or McCain) will offer our people and communities more support and fealty than would a man who has a Black wife and Black daugthers.
Btw: If it EVER were Obama's intent to go The way of the Caucasian, he would never even THOUGHT of marrying someone who looks like Michelle. Not in a BAZILLION years.

Nels: I'm getting to the article, and since the font is so small, I didn't read it all...but it sounds...interesting.
I can't really take her seriously, since her politics aren't the most...pro-black. So beyond calling her self a black woman, when she says "we" and blackness in the same paragraph it seems out of place...but let me read the rest before I discount her comments. |
