We all know one of the ways Bill Clinton became and stayed president--by smashing a black from time to time. No doubt he will have Hillary do this to Obama--how will she do it? I'm thinking she will accuse him of making a pass at her in the Senate Cloakroom. |

by smashing a black from time to time "Time to time"? Try "on a consistent and regular basis." Which is why I am always amazed at all the Black folks who want to claim him as "our first Black president." If that's the kind of behavior we can expect from the first Black commander in chief, then heaven help us! |

I don't think Hillary has to do anything. America's southern states are her best allies and John Edwards her chief opponent. |

She must destroy Obama Hillary Works To Reclaim Political Initiative Obama Announcement Puts Burden On Unofficial Front-Runner Some Call Obama 'The Anti-Hillary' See Also -- Newsmakers Remembered (CBS) NEW YORK Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) is throwing his hat into the ring for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. He's the sixth Democrat to officially enter the race. Now, the focus is on Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), who remains officially un-declared -- but not necessarily for long. Obama's announcement is seen as a direct challenge to Clinton. So much so that her staff is scrambling to reclaim the political initiative. Fresh back from a trip to the Middle East, Clinton appeared on the major talk shows Wednesday morning, amid speculation that she would push forward the date of her announcement for president. On one early morning broadcast, Clinton called the road to the Democratic nomination "the beginning of a long process" She dodged questions about her own plans to enter the race for the nomination. She was more outspoken about the war in Iraq, however. "The Bush administration has frankly failed to put any leverage on this government," Clinton said on CBS' "The Early Show." She did not say whether she would vote to block funding for Bush's troop increase. New Kind Of Candidate? If, as Marshall McLuhan once said, "The medium is the message," then Obama's announcement on the Web rather than on TV hints of a new kind of candidate. In his announcement, Obama spoke of "a different kind of politics." But his candidacy is also setting up an old-fashioned political dogfight against the up-to-now perceived frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, Clinton. In fact, some are calling Obama the anti-Hillary. It's a race full of symbolism. The man who could be the first black president is facing off against the woman who could be the first female president. It is a potential contest of one who opposed the Iraq war from the beginning versus one who voted for it. But it's already more than a two-person race. Former senator and vice presidential candidate John Edwards made his own waves this weekend when he came into Clinton's New York territory with a speech at Riverside Church. Waiting in the wings is former Vice President Al Gore, who actually won the popular vote for president in 2000. Clinton is expected to highlight her long political experience versus Obama's mere two years in the Senate. Clinton has called Obama "terrific" and an "exciting personality," but has also gently jabbed at his lack of experience. Clinton has said that voters would decide if Obama is experienced enough to be president. For his part, Obama will be invoking Abraham Lincoln from his home state of Illinois. Lincoln had served only two years in the House before he was elected president in 1860. BY JOHN METAXAS, CBS 2 NEWS (© MMVII, CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved.) Americans Southern states? Them good ole boyz hate Hillary with a passion? |

"For his part, Obama will be invoking Abraham Lincoln from his home state of Illinois. Lincoln had served only two years in the House before he was elected president in 1860." Kinda ironic that the guy who saved the nation and ended slavery only had 2 years in public office. |

Those are the opinons of pundits, the ones who always underestimate the mentality of the silent white majority. And the fact that southern-born, fatherless, saxophone playin, womanizing Bill Clinton supposedly stabbed blacks in the back doesn't pre-empt him from being labled as "the first black president" because blacks stab each other in the back all of the time. Obama wil be stepping on plenty of black toes to make it to the top. |

It's just hard to determine whether or not southern whites will vote for a nigra or a yankee Miz Anne. I should'n't have said the south was Hillary's "ally". The south is the Republican's ace in the hole. |

The Obama Drama? Hillary isn't Bill. Not even close. No charisma, finesse or any of that "good" stuff, for that matter. The South might just surprise you. Their pocketbooks might speak louder than their distaste for a mixed-race president. In the wake of the class warfare that's been killing them during the Bush 43 administration, they could very well come to grips with the possibility that Obama might just be their "ticket" to prosperity and the "Oscars". I think the nation is going to move further to the left on economic issues than most people are predicting. I agree Nels that the division between the haves and have-nots will be more apparent by 2008. And middle class "mainstream" whites along/w southern whites are going to be looking for an answer to their problems, as you said. But both groups are still too racist and sexist though; they're not that far left on race and gender (despite the mainstream b.s.), and they won't be by 2008. John Edwards is the bigger threat.... (Tho he’ll need to rough up that pretty face before the general election. He oughtto start smokin cigarettes and drinkin T-bird... RIGHT NOW... maybe even hit the pipe a little.) |

Yvettep, Obama's potential opponents and detractors must really LOATHE his being so forthcoming about his personal problems and missteps. 'Cause, hell, if he keeps this shyt up they won't have any thing left to smear him with come campaign time. Depending on how things play out, Obama's candor might prove to be one of the most EFFECTIVE campaign strategems in the history of American politics. Btw: It tooked the Monica Lewinsky fiasco for America to discover that Bill Clinton liked to smoke and do a few other thangs with cigars. Hahahahaha!!! |

ABM, This is a problem with "African" people that is typical of them. being so forthcoming about personal problems and missteps. I was reading a Black American scholar who wrote an essay trying to explain to Americans that "African" people have a way of talking---"very frank"----because they aren't used to a society where "image" is something that can be manipulated and negotiated into social gain. Most 3rd world countries---you're BORN into your status and that's what you are. There's no SCHMOOZING can be done. Obama's American born and raised raised, however--but he's been to see his people in KENYA many times. He picked it up from them. I notice A LOT of Africans (especially me) don't understand the VALUE of carefully choosing what we say and reveal about ourselves. It's a big problem.

Kola, I agree we Black foks can indeed be WAY too candid at times for our own good. We often dangerously wear our mind, heart and spirit on our sleeves. And Whites often then smile, lie and then (predictably) PISS on said sleeves. However, I think in this case it might actually work FOR Obama. Because, hell, the White foks are going tell EVERYDAYAM offense he's EVER committed (and many he DIDN'T) anyway. So he may score points via appearing especially honest and forthright, particularly when juxtaposed with all the bvllshyt that Bush has perpetrated over the last 6 years(WMD's my a$$, motherfuhker!) and the often duplicitous Bill & Hill gang, whose SOLE purpose has always appeared to turn on BOTH of them becoming President. If Americans truly DO want more of the TRUTH dealt at them than they've received, Obama might appear a REFRESHING respite to them. Though, admittedly, I have NOT yet concluded that's what they want. |
