Tonya, I do not believe in the One Drop Rule. She is what she is. Traits for me do not refute what someone's heritage is.
Genetically, she may have "black" hair. She does not have to totally have European characteristics. Leave it up to chance. Someone can have two normally looking white parents but if it is your genetic history (a pool of sorts), there is a slim chance of them having a Black looking child.
We tend to judge someone's race by what they look like. If someone looks black, they are black, *depending on what that means to you*
Someone can, for example, can have white skin, european features, but if they have kinky hair, would you assume she/he was a regula ol light skinned person?

No. Not necessarily. I don't believe in the One Drop Rule AT ALL, either. So I have a ton of respect for those who choose to claim their diverse heritage. I think they have every right to. I like a lot of rock music too. Not too big on much of what's come along over the last 20 years (though some of the Grunge stuff was interesting). But I'm utterly amazed by the stuff The Beetles, Jimi Hendrix, the Stones, the Eagles, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd, etc. achieved.
And my very favorite music is Classical. I might listen to music created by J.S. Bach or Beethoven (or Wagner) before I do of any other artist or composer, be he-she Black, White or Brown.

Though I think it's often difficult to discern the true hue of people who have some African heritage unless you see them in person. Because lighting, makeup, camera tricks, perspiration, etc. can radically alter how Black a celebrity appear. |

Have you all checked out Corrine's back up singers? These pleasingly plump "sistas" leave no doubt as to their blood lines, and her band members, too, are mostly black. I think she's marketed for a diverse audience. And until she opened her mouth and started talking with that clipped British accent, only then did I wonder if she was bi-racial. I think her looks are "exotic". |

One of the most gifted black British singer/songwriters---a precursor of Corinne Bailey Rae and many others---was Linda Lewis. Lewis was astounding---enormously creative, lyrical, unique. Even today, thirty years after I first heard her album "Linda Lewis", she sounds like she could be the contemporary of Corinne Bailey Rae. |

Guess what. I almost never READ Lil_ze's posts (and those of a few others who frequent this site). But I find it quite interesting that you of all people would concern yourself with defending India Arie. After all, it's not like she's pretty enuff to date your son.

I might agree that Chaka was pretty (She certainly had a slamming body!). But I never found Stephanie to be a pretty woman, especially BEFORE the plastic surgery. |

Fantasia is not especially pretty to me. But she has a lovely voice. And if her albums are well-written and aptly produced, I'd probably buy them.
Conversely, Beyonce, J Lo, Mariah Carey and Rihanna are prettier than Fantasia. But there's almost no way in DEEhell I'd buy any of their albums. Hell. I can hardly stand to listen to them. |

All I know is he tore Kola Boof a new asshole for TWO YEARS and you never said a word until he attacked Moonsigns a few months ago then Kola dropped off for a few days after you defended Moonsigns but she never said anything IMO I always believed Kola held that against you but didnt say anything she sure left here claiming you didn't protect her from "predators" LOLLLL!!!!! Fantasia is attractive to me and has a nice body. Much better than Beyonce's or Rihanna's. Fantasia has typical African features. I know some of you(many of you)don't find African features attractive but I do. Also, Fantasia can sing circles around any of those "hiefas" anyday. |

yes, i do travel.
ive been to ALL continents (except antarctica. and australia which im planning on visiting soon).
and like it or not, people who have one black parent ARE thought of as BLACK people.
and yes im aware of the "coloured" category in south africa.
ask a white south african (who ive known many), if the "coloureds" in south africa are black or not.
they will tell you, yes they are black.

Caught Corinne on Oprah last nite. What a breath of fresh AIR!!!
A musical artist who can wonderfully SING, WRITE SONGS...and PLAY GUITAR. I thought they were extinct!
Mary J. Blige and Carly Simon & her son & daughter(her son almost eerily favors his pops James Taylor) also performed on Oprah. I found it quite telling that the producers of the show appear to only to play CORINNE'S music as they segued to and from commercial breaks.
Mary J. seemed quite taken with Corinne. I hope they work together. Corinne songwriting and Mary J's voice could set the world AFIRE.
PS: Man. When I see a chick sing and play guitar, something goes all gooey inside of me. |
