it's funny that alot of you posters remind me of uncle ruckus, no matter how well another black person does (see beyonce, oprah, etc.) you got something bad to say about them. am i saying that because they've reached a level of success that they are beyond criticism or critique? nope, but i am saying that you have never heard halle or beyonce say to anyone "if you don't look like me, you ain't shit" ... if they did than that would warrant the constant criticism, i believe that all women who have that diva air about them are the ones who deserve that sort of treatment(see mariah carey). the funny thing is half of the posts downing our few black celebrities are often aimed at the black women and it's funny, that more than half of the shooters are other black women. in this over-produced have to be perfect to society, who really fits that mold and even if they did would it last forever? if all of the black entertainers fit the same category then they would be nothing but ordinary, so enjoy the differences, and appreciate the imperfections.
everyone has the right to post whatever they feel, i am just saying ... you don't look good when all you have is that "oh he done moved outta da hood, still ain't shit but a nigga" mentality.

In the case of Beyonce and Halle they are held up by many others as the "standard" of African-American beauty.
I don't like that. Just like a lot of Asian women are pissed off that Lucy Liu is the poster-girl for Chinese American actresses, when they don't think she's pretty.
As a very dark-skinned, chimped-out, shiny-complected, short-haired bootyscratcher, I'd like to see some darker skinned black women held up as icons of beauty, too.

you go wrong comparing yourself to a vision that is just a facade ... be yourself and set your own standards. critiquing these women on appearance rather than their skill set makes you look like a hater every time. |

Thanks Dob23. I don't have a problem with your message. In fact, I've been saying the same thing (to no avail of course). However, there are others who feel haranguing and slamming other blacks is their divine predestinational right and duty. Like you, I respect their right to do so, but I don't completely agree with the excessiveness. Fair and warranted criticism is a must and needed in a fair and open society. But never ending finger pointing, name calling and vitriol about peoples skin color, personal lives, etc, is too much at times -IMO. |

Doberman, you get pissed whenever someone doesn't agree that some chick you wanna bone is the most talented and beautiful--just like with Aaliyah--I said that she was overrated and couldn't sing (which is true) and you got mad. You can't get angry at the world because they don't agree with you. It's a whole lot of people who think Beyonce is overexposed and Halle can't act for shit...big deal. You only defend women you find the most attractive anyway--not too long ago you said Gabrielle Union was not a good actress, why aren't you supporting her? |

i never said halle was a good actress, her acting skills aren't the thing that usually comes in question regarding her. beyonce can sing, kelly price can sing ... the difference, no one posts that kelly is overweight or is unattractive. a person can enjoy both india arie and alicia keys, but show me where someone puts down india aire (maybe lil z). anyways i said what i had to say, that's why i called this thread babbling. |

Kelly Price has not had a hit record since 1997, and no one even knows who she is to even criticize her anymore, hence the reason why she was just mistaken for being Kelly Rowland from Destiny's Child.
Then again, I do in fact remember Kelly Price catching a lot of flack for being a fat a$$, and needing to lose weight when she was seen more often in the media. Jennifer Hudson, is also being called a fat a$$ on other forums as well, but nobody seems to care as much because she is not some cookie cutter pop princess that all the guys wanna bone.
And you seem to have selective memory skills because I do recall many people who criticized Halle's lack of acting abilities while praising her beauty--perhaps not on this forum but there were plenty who did.
The rest of the people you named are not overexposed and being shoved down our throats, and taking credit for writing just one line on pop records the way Beyonce currently is. |

Dobes, BB is right on this one. A lot of us just don't feel the same as you do. I think Kelly Price has a much prettier face than Beyonce. And since it's much easier to have a slamming body than it is to have a pretty face (you have to be born with it or undergo some kind of surgery for a nice face), Kelly has the edge over Beyonce in the looks department, imo. As for India Aire and Alicia Keys, both women are drop dead gorgeous and I've said as much MANY times. |

I would never diss Alicia Keys. She is a light-skinned very pretty woman, just like Beyonce. The difference is that Alicia is talented, dignified and - unlike Beyonce - doesn't dress like she's desperately to get fucked in the ass all the while proclaiming that she loves God and goes to bible classes. Alicia doesn't over-expose herself like that idiot Beyonce does. Alicia= genuine talent and classy lady. Beyonce= cheap, tacky whore. |

With her thunder thighs Alicia can't afford to dress provocatively. And talking about people being overrated, to me, she also fits that category. I get tired of her being hyped as a "classically-trained pianist", something that's true of anyody who takes piano lessons. And she certainly hails from the Janet Jackson school of vocalizing.
