The hanging of Saddam, makes me think about the death penalty. It's hard to have any sympathy for a dictator like SH, but as a general priniciple does the state have the right to kill in the name of justice/vengence? |

This is the 21st Century. Might makes right. If the state has the might to carry it out and keep order afterward it has the right. |

Isn't there something in the Holy Bible about an eye for an eye? And thou shalt not kill? If someone broke into the sanctity of your home and raped, tortured and killed you while you were sleeping in your bed, raped and murdered one of your children, or robbed and slit the throat of your grocer, what sort of justice would you want for them? I have no sympathy for these vicious heartless criminals who prey upon innocent victims. They don't deserve another cup of water or another ray of sunshine. They deserve the same miserable fate that they inflicted upon my neighbor, my family member or myself. My only regret is that our method of execution is too good for these heathens. They should be thrown to the lions, thrown in a fire or a pit of rattlesnakes, they should have their limbs torn off. Merry Christmas

What are you saying Chris? That if someone broke into your home, raped and murdered you - you'd want him harbored in a comfy prison cell and given pop tarts for the rest of his life? You'd probably just let him go free, huh? Let him serve a couple of years and get out on parole so that he could kill another innocent person. |

My only problems with capital punishment are the often haphazard and racially-biased manner in which it is administered. Otherwise, hang-Hussein-hang. And I especially dig how EXPEDITIOUSLY the Iraqis laid the fatal smatchdown on Saddam. |

Folks down where this gal is from they blew the President's brains out at high noon while he was riding down the street with his wife beside him Pinned it on a patsy (anybody who knows anything about guns knows you couldn't do a shot like that (at a MOVING target? With a bolt action mail order rifle?)and then blew him away while the nation watched live on national tv in the basement of the police station in the biggest city in the state. Oh, did I add that they regularly drag black guys behind pickup trucks because they were stupid enough to ask for a ride until their pieces are scattered all over the road-- And that our Fearless Leader was there and in four years he executed more people than anybody in history-- And I say unto ye Consider the source |

This is what Jesse Jackson had to say about Sadaam's execution and they are words to ponder. "It will not increase our moral authority in the world...Saddam's heinous crimes against humanity can never be diminshed, but he was our ally while he was doing it....Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth will make us blind and disfigured...Saddam as a war trophy only deepens the catastrophe to which we are indelibly linked." |

"Isn't there something in the Holy Bible about an eye for an eye? And thou shalt not kill?" right...and that verse right there is why im agaisnt capital punishment because it says thou shall not kill....the only justifiable reason to kill is in self defense.....so eventhough i have absoluely NO sympathy for sadaaam....it does go agaisnt my principles. The eye for an eye part is in the old testament...the new testament teaches agaisnt revenge. |

Misty, Funny how we still include the Old Testment within Christian teachings but attempt to casually set aside The Law's less than touchy-feely parts. |

The Iraqis may have carried out the execution, but this has American fingerprints all over it. Obviously, the killing of Saddam was GWB's revenge for SH threat against Bush I. That's what this whole Iraq war has been about. Whatever happened to Osama Bin Laden? Will we capture and hang him too? |

It's funny to apply such a modern expression to an ancient text. I would not presume to accuse God of any wrongdoing. I take that "vengance is mine, says the Lord," stuff seriously. LOL. |

"I talking about where the Old Testment appears to advocate eye-4-an-eye, polygamy, gay-bashing, slavery, human sacrifice, etc." I don't know how detailed it (the bible) advocates it but I do know those who actively indulge and encourage it, all use the bible as a source reference to justify their sordid behavior. That's for damn sure!

THE BIG BRUH IN THE SKY and I have an understanding. Misty, Misty: but really we are suppose to be following the new testament...not the old testament Well then why do foks continue to invoke the tenets of the Old Testament which includes, btw...Exodus's THE TEN COMMANDMENTS? Ntfs, I admit I may be playing fast/loose with The Good Book. But then, really, aren't EVERYBODY? |

No....thats what i just said Abm...lol the eye for an eye part and the sacraficing of living creatures was suppose to be done away with with the coming of Jesus Christ in the new testament. The act of judging other people was also suppose to be done away with in the New testament when Jesus Christ came. |

"If we can't judge what another man does, how can we stop and prevent guys like Saddam from reaping hell upon everyone else?" Good point. I've never be able to get on board with this idea of making the criminal perpetrator seem like a victim when it comes to time to mete out the punishment. The victim(s) and their families always get lost in the shuffle and forgotten. Don't like being in incarcerated? Don't like the death penalty? Then don't do the crime it ya can't stand the time! It's as simple as that.
