Thought I'd lighten things up! Here's some of my top picks : Eva, Kenya, Dorothy and Usher's ex girlfriend Eisha Brightwell! http://tinypic.com/i24mxl.jpg http://www.the411online.com/bet2003a/P6240314.jpg http://www.ferris.edu/htmls/news/jimcrow/mulatto/dorothy.jpg http://www.index.hr/images2/EishiaBrightwell-Usher2V.jpg http://tradermike.net/movethecrowd/archives/2005/02/the_number_one_stunner.php _______________________ I guess if I absolutely *HAD* to choose one person I admired the most it would be Dorothy Dandgride! I think she was breath taking! Even bought her biography, although I was dissapionted with the movie Halle Berry did of her 1.) because I never thought Halle Berry could act, 2.) because it left out so much information about her life, 3.) (believeable or not) I think Halle did NOT represent 1/10 of her beauty). http://www.kcet.org/media/uploads/programs/homepage/dorothy_dandridge_am_ft.jpg http://www.my-wc.com/celebs/ddandridge/top.jpg |

It's impossible to pick.... but I'll go with my father's all time pick....1970's blaxploitation actress Brenda Sykes: These are not even good pictures of her. She was so amazingly beautiful in Ken Norton's film "DRUM"

I tried to post a pic, but couldn't. If I could fight SHERYL LEE RALPH and get that face and that body, I would shamelessly do so. GORGEOUS! If anyone knows how to post a pic, please do so. |

HEY NOW..... I just wanted to mention HALLE BERRY, who I've actually met (Thomas used to be her electrician)----and she is the sweetest person...and is BEAUTIFUL both inside and out, as far as I'm concerned. FOR THE GUYS!!!! And I love Beyonce. Her face has a soulfulness, especially when her hair is darker---and she definitely has the body I had when I was 20 and before 2 babies

I'm with you, Renata! Not only is Sheryl the most beautiful.. she's the only REAL black women on this thread. So far, the other women have been "mullattos", "cute to be dark-skinned chocolates" and "pretty Afircans" -- in other words... JIM CROW BITCHES.... This whole thread is a prime example of a color-struck society! Tonya |

Tonya, I feel so insulted by your last comment ---because I look like a Jim Crow bitch, I suppose. But I guess I deserve to feel this way considering how my own comments must make other women---lighter than me, more thin faced than me--feel the same pain. Your comments also make me realize how innocent other people are....and how women LIKE YOU haven't done a goddamned thing to represent and establish yourselves---blindly expecting others to celebrate and notice you, but then become scotch-mouthed wolverines when the looking glass is placed on those that DID demand their place. I don't see Sheryl Lee as any more "real" than Lauryn Hill or Brenda Sykkes. The only difference is that their noses are natural ...Sheryl had hers clipped down. That's the only difference. And, in fact, Lauryn looks more black if you ask me.

I think Sheryl is beautiful because of her eyes, her lips, and she has a banging round, voluptuous body, with big hips and breasts. Everything about her just seems so feminine. And you can see in her eyes, that she knows she's the bomb. It's for these same reasons that Toccara from AMerica's next top model was one of my favorites. These are 2 of only a few women who don't RIVAL drag queens and female impersonators, but INSPIRE them. To me, a lot of extremely thin women just don't look feminine at all. |

I'm not claiming to be biracial. I am biracial. The good thing, is that I don't look it. I assumed that you knew my life story, Vixen. My father was Harith Bin Farouk, a white Arab. I thought I told you that long ago, when I was expressing my opinion to you. And furthermore.... MOST of the so called "Black" Arabs in Sudan are biracial. They have a white father and a charcoal mother. Like Anwar Sadat, whose mother was Sudanese: Biracial NORTH AFRICANS usually come out looking like Sheryl Lee Ralph and Kola Boof and Anwar Sadat.

Yeah, well, clear this: YOU'RE NOT A JIM CROW BITCH! You may be a bitch.. but not a Jim Crow one. ... If you can't figure that one out, I don't know what the fuck to tell you. And I don't know where you got the idea that *I* expect anyone to celebrate, establish, or repesent me. From the door I've been ALL about black women representing themselves and not having anyone "DEMAND THEIR PLACE." So where on God's green earth that came from I don't know. Or maybe you think that since I find you to be an extraordinary author, I somehow expect *you* to represent *me*.... Well, let me set that straight right now too... FUCK YOU! You can't do shit for me except write me a book. You have a bad enough time pepresenting your damn self.... Now, hopefully, none of this will get me banned from your board.. but if it doesn't, keep in mind that I'm not looking for a movie/book deal -- I ain't got shit to lose -- so I'ma keep my shit real. My opinion will stay the course. Also, I'm not the sistah who's leg you can piss on while telling it's rain'n; so the next time I you feel I've "insult" you, instead of trying to play me like a fool, well, I don't know -- try pissin on yourself, I guess. Tonya, I would not ban anyone from this board for expressing their opinion. The people that I've banned either attacked my deceased mother or were blatant racists. And I wasn't trying to piss on your leg or anyone else's. That's not what I do. Unlike you, I speak very PRECISELY so that people can know what I'm saying. I don't speak in riddles and get frustrated when people don't know what I'm saying. Nor was I intimating that I should or would represent you.....my point about representation had to do with the women that you claimed weren't black enough (Lauryn, Angela, etc.)....although a month ago, you tried to argue that Mary J. Blige's flowing blond hair worked FOR HER and that she was more representative of blackness than Angela Bassett is. That was my point. Naturally, my feelings are really hurt, and I admit--I'm at a loss for words. But I'm glad you came with your real face. |

Blkamericanking, I don't think "STRONG African" blood is the reason why Kola doesn't look Biracial. I think it is just a matter of how genetics play out. A recessive gene could show up in her grandchildren or great-grandchildren that could make them look very Arab. Genes are funny like that. I know a couple that are both very, very brown. Their child is a bit lighter than the both of them with green/blue eyes. It looks crazy. Nevertheless, down the line, "mixed" blood does show up in way one or another.

Kola, There is one picture of you on these forums in your younger days where you are wearing a hat and look very, very thin. It kinda shows your profile. You can see Arab blood in that picture especially in your nose and facial structure. However, it could always look that way because how thin you were at that particular time in life--being real thin can make facial features look really different.

M2cents on women like Lauren Hill, Brenda Sikes, and Kanye Moore: To me, the average black woman looks more like the beautiful female who played alongside Angela Bassett (as Tina Turner's sister) in the movie "what's love got to do with it?".. not Angela Bassett. (When I say average, I mean the majority (nine out of ten), in terms of skin color, racial features, hair texture, ect.. not average looking). As for Lauryn Hill, it's obvious as well.... How many non- heavily mixed black women have Lauryn's nose(?).. (which happens to be a prominent feature of European beauty standards). And, how many of us are shaped anything like her??? Lauryn has a wafe (sp) like figure, which is most common to women of European descent. Most black women (again, those who aren't heavily mixed) are curvier with fuller breast and/or backsides.... I think we've gotten to the point where we can no longer deny our usage of European beauty standards as a way of "prettying" up our *ill perceived* lack of physical beauty, which is good. It's a start, at least. But we've fallen into a rut where we are too comfortable with (to borrow a term from Kola, which I find very catchy) "compromise".. negogiating our perceived beauty: Lauryn has dark skin so that's good enough; never mind the fact that she doesn't have all, or even most, of the features that the average black female has. And Byounce... well... she's "Bootylicious".... She has the "Booty" so that's good enough.... It's "black enough".... Don't get me wrong, I think both women are extremely talented; I think Beyounce is most likely a sweet caring person.. AND LAURYN (!!!).... That's my girl -- I am one of her biggest fans because, culturally, she represents us bona fide sistahs to the tee -- you know I'm down with my girl LAURYN!.. which is why it truly pains me to say that, although she's extremely beautiful, drop dead gorgeous, in fact... her physical appearance doesn't adequately capture the *true* essence of our very distinct, extraordinarily rare, exquisite & intense, splendor... our beauty.. one that we should be genuinely be proud of..... We should be knocking down doors to showcase our glory.. our magnificence! So for the life of me.. I don't see why we'd EVER want to "compromise?".... Anyway... I love Lauryn; Beyounce seems sweet, and Angela Bassett is my girl, too. But, I don't think their visual images adequately represents our beauty, that's all. ____________________________ This is what I don't get.... How is Kenya Moore's "beauty" any different, in terms of white supremacy beauty standards & black female representation, than Beyounce's. You said so yourself: she's a "chocolate Beyounce", and that's true. European standards of beauty includes more that just skin color. What about the features? Are we "compromising" that too, now? I am a dark-skinned sistah with "keen" features but I am not going to jump on the Kenye Moore band wagon because, to me, that truly defeats the purpose. If breaking down the barriors of white supremacy standards is the objective.. how does a "chcolate covered european beauty".. a "CUTE TO BE DARK-SKINNED" sistah like Kenya help to achieve that goal? _____________________________________________ My Opinion on what I refer to as Jim Crow bitches: I don't think they should stop "achieving"... but, at the same time, I wouldn't want my daughter growing up thinking that what these women are doing is right. Whether they know that they are wrong or not (and I find it hard to believe that they don't) I don't think it's healthy for young women, especially, to think it's ok to glorify women who are willing to place themselves in such a position in order to "achieve". I said this before, **their images are no different than the images of white people portraying black folk in black face during Jim Crow.** But lets say that these women don't understand it on that level; they know that they look nothing like the majority of black poeple -- that much they know; and, frankly, that should be enough for them to understand completely. I can care less that these women ended up doing whats utterly dishonest, deceptive, and unethical (knowingly or not).. but I think that excusing their behavior is the wrong message to send to young folk. ___________________________________ What I said about Mary J. Blidge's blond hair: Don't think I'm giving Mary special treatment because, honestly, I'm not that big of a fan, and I agree with you, she can represent a lot better; especially since she's one of the very few bona fide sistahs in the media -- for that reson she's a very big disappointment. But my point is, if we're going to castigate her for wearing blond hair (which is usually short in length, at least, and doesn't make her look any whiter) we need to castigate (just as harshly)almost every black women in hollywood; because, except for a few, they all wear long weaves, which makes them look whiter. To me, Mary J. Blige looks blacker than Foxy Brown did with her long natural colored weave. (And Foxy's more authentic lokking than Mary.) I think Mary looks more natural than most of the black women in hollywood who wear long natural colored weaves. As I said earlier, I don't agree with perms, blond hair, and especially long weaves. Obviously, I don't agree with perms because most black women don't have naturally straight hair -- but if you're going to wear a perm/color/blond at least wear a length that's natural for black women. Like straight hair, long *FLOWING* hair is NOT a natural trait of nappy headed black women. But, out of long weaves, short perms, and short color/blond - long weaves are the most noticable and most European looking of them all -- that's why I loathe tham the most. ___________________________ ...when she wears it short she doesn't look that way {white} -- she still looks like a natural black women. Some black women can do that. She and the actress/singer Eve can do that ("pull it off" and still look like natural black women) WHEN THEY WEAR IT SHORT. That said, I don't agree with any of it -- it's a slippery slope: first perms and skin bleaches, then weaves and skin lightening make-up, now blond hair and blue contacts. IT'S ALL DESTRUCTIVE. And it ALLLL stems from the same destructive white supremacy mindset. IT'S ALL THE SAME. Tonya

MOON, You've barbequed right? You've used charcoal, right? You know how black that is, right? My father's genes aren't recessive AT ALL. It's just that none of you have taken into account the color of my mother. I have even seen other biracial children in the U.S. who came out chocolate fudge when one parent was blue black or darker. It's sort of odd how none of you have factored in the coloring of Sudanese and Nilotic peoples. We're not PRE-mixed Black Americans. And a good majority of biracial African children could pass for FULL black. LOL

There is no part of Lauryn Hill that looks European. NONE. Her waif-ishness makes her look child like, not unhealthy in the least. This Nigerian model OLUCHI has a wide flat nose and full lips. But like so many African women, she only weighs 90 pounds. Brenda Sykkes DOES look Eurocentric and probably has some White blood. But she's still rates an awesome complexion. Not all of "OUR" beauty is "thick, negroid West African" stock. My birth mother looked a lot like Lauryn Hill and Brenda Sykkes and there was not a thread of Europe or Arabia in her veins. I think Gladys Knight is an exquisitely beautiful example (especially when she was young) of a full figured West African type. I think Cece Winans and Anita Baker are very beautiful. But I like Lauryn as A PERSON, and that too has a lot to do with me thinking she's a PENULTIMATE black beauty. There's not a fucking European thing about that woman. And why don't you list your own choice Tonya? You haven't named a single favorite.

In an ideal women would be free of ALL beauty standards. There DEFINITLY should be a REDEFINING of black beauty ideals (including facial features and body types) without the influence of white supremist ideology. Having said that, there is such physical diversity amongst 'authentic' Africans themselves that, pre Arab/Euro invaders, it can be assumed that diverse beauty ideals already existed. So, although creating and reinforcing standards that are as void as possible of white supremacy is necessary for mental healing, we can't deny the beauty of 'authentic' looking women just because they possess characteristics that Caucasians also idealize. In the case of Lauryn Hill (possessing the 'normal' hair texture/skin color of most pre-colonial Africans), I think that even in pre-colonial Africa her beauty would be acknowledged and/or denied according to the ideals of the specific group. Although I can not say the same for the above mentioned lighter skinned ladies. |

Lauryn Hill looks like a pure African princess. The only thing keeping her from looking any different than Angie Stone is that she's BONE THIN. If you ever see photos of Angie Stone when she was size 4....it looks like Lauryn Hill. I've seen photos of Cicely Tyson from the late 1950's where SHE reminded me of Lauryn Hill. And that's what's making Sheba Baby call her a "cute to be chocolate" girl. Please. There's as many BONE THIN skinny women running around Africa as there are Shape Goddesses. Walking everywhere with baskets on your heads, babies on your backs--tends to make you slim.

I've NEVER met a round, voluptuous AFRICAN woman. They're all (the ones I've met anyways) thin, more like Alek Wek than Sheryl Lee Ralph. That "roundness" thing seems to be more of an African AMERICAN trait. SKIN COLOR ASIDE, Lauryn Hill would look more African. Beyonce may seem somewhat fat. |

Heck, Gambian women in Atlanta don't even fill out their own clothes. Seriously. |

That's what I'm saying Renata. Only the WEST AFRICAN women have "big butts" (they truly possess the Dukan cake---go to Ghana and Mali--MY GOD! Talk about ass). But they are usually thin with tiny waists, big asses and medium breasts---until age 40 or 3 babies. Some rural women are Squat, short and fat while they're young. East African women are TALLLLLL and thin--often BONEY. (I'm 6'2). I have a Sheryl Lee Ralph type figure (I think you saw the video), but I'm out of shape. Most of my life I was a size 4 or 6---extremely thin with big tits and a round apple booty. Now I am OVERWEIGHT to get that Voluptuos shape and my height makes me look evened out--but girl, I need to lose some weight. My tits were Double D-zz in the video--but my normal size is 36 C. It's good to be PHAT when you're young and HIGH-lifted...but as we age, it just turns to molten FAT gut. I prefer to stay toned and thinner. Slavery caused a "genetic" change in African American women. They had to pile on huge amounts of FAT in order to escape being "raped". They deliberately made themselves unattractive for hundreds of years as a defense mechanism.

I know what Tonya's saying. She wants to see the more "Negroid" faces represented---women like India Arie. On that I agree with her.

When you are pointing out the differences among Africans, Kola, you should do likewise with Europeans. Not all Caucasians on the continent of Europe have "classic" Roman features, but look very different from country to country. And who cares about anything other than West Africans when references are made about how black slave descendants in America look. Forget all of those other African tribes. |

Can we all stop acting like we are not familiar with the prase "cute to be dark-skinned." I have been called shit like that and been told that I look like one of those "petty Africans." Unless you've heard that shit all of your life, you don't know just how offensive it is.... But, still, I know we all know the meaning behind it.. so I quess what's freaking me out is that people are acting like they don't know what the hell it means. Anyway, my two picks for the most stunning beauties of all time are Phyllis Yvonne Stickey and Adrienn-Joi Johnson. Tonya |

Well, Gambia is in West Africa. And the women are very thin. Women I've met from Ivory Coast are very tall. Gambian women are average height. I can't speak for East and Central Africans, as the only East Africans I've ever met are from Somalia, Sudan, and Kenya. |

No, I don't know the meaning of what offends you, Tonya. Tell me. Why would you be insulted if someone said you looked like one of those pretty Africans?? Do you really know where your head is? Lots of people have their cuteness qualififed: cute to be fat, cute to be skinny, cute to wear glasses, cute to have gapped teeth. Gimme a break. Better cute than ugly. Stop your whining. |

Cynique, just the other day I pointed out how Swedish whites view Italian and Sicilian whites. How Greeks were once brown, according to their own mouths---they still kiss the feet of a "Black Madonna" at prayer services. And how the Nordic and Bolsheviks fight over "eye color". Especially in SERBIA. I've always been talking about that. ABM could tell you. ______ Renata, They do have "very shapely" women in West Africa as well----and the overwhelming beauty standard there is: a fat booty Those women got ass on the African west coast. It's not AMERICAN. Yall came here with that part. Most (not all), but most of the Africans who can afford to come to the U.S. are from the Upper Classes. They're used to being very skinny. And just like a lot of these West African women "bleach" their skin---they also want to be skinny in the U.S. _____________ I certainly have been told that I'm "cute for a dark girl." But that doesn't make me European looking or a Jim Crow Bitch (which I know, Tonya--you didn't call me--you cleared that up). I did a whole thread about the singer Lizz Wright. To me, she is SOOOOOO beautiful. I love her looks. Lauryn's nose is an African nose. Lips, eyes, hair. Color.

What I meant, Kola, was that it is possible for a black person to look European because not all Europeans have sharp noses, high foreheads, thin lips, square jaws and pale skin. |

Tonya: Can we all stop acting like we are not familiar with the prase "cute to be dark-skinned." KOLA: Tonya--that's just it. None of us are ACTING here. We're just being ourselves chatting and sharing opinions. You're the only one who came in here with rage and lashing out----and expecting us to be MIND READERS who should just automatically understand what your points were. Sometimes you talk in riddles and then thave the nerve to cop an attitude when somebody doesn't know what the fuck you're talking about. I really didn't appreciate the way you tried to bark me down.....and accuse me of the bullshit YOU DO all because you've got your ass on your back and just now 2 seconds ago FINALLY offered up your own beauty icons. Your attitude is FOUL and you need to stop ACTING like anyone who doesn't fit your ideal of beauty isn't worthy of being talked about. I USE MY LIFE'S WORK...I talk big shit IN PUBLIC, bitch, where the whole world can see me and I USE MY LIFE to stand for the arguments that I discuss on this board. I gladly pay a price for that----but I AM DOING SOMETHING about the situation. Maybe you oughta get a letter writing campaign going...on behalf of YOUR beauty icons---raise money to make a movie----hell, give birth to some children who can press your views until they stick. But you really need to DO SOMETHING, sista....other than re-hash my "Fuck Jesus" speech and other than try to sling your filthy ass mud my way. I may not like it that Halle Berry is playing NEFERTITI....but I will be there on opening Friday to support the sister, regardless---just on GP. And I've loved...MUCH of Halle's work. And to me, she IS BEAUTIFUL. I love Halle's looks. And I've always loved the fact that for 90% of her career---she made it acceptable to have "Short Hair" and still be a sex symbol. That alone was revolutionary! What's "Freaking You OUT" is that you're bitter and shitty, and you're mad at me for sharing and agreeing with your views---but not to the point that I'm a Manic/Depressive evil ass SHREW .....bitching up hot sauce and pork rinds and trying to claim that Denzel's wife is the only woman in Black America with a clean pussy. Fuck you, too---you Afro Sheen guzzling ashy foot Swamp Fucker!

I agree Cynique. A lot of Europeans have "wide flat" noses, round faces and are Big Boned. I think POLISH and eastern Europeans have been made fun for their "thick" features. And Italians (like Sophia Loren), remind me of BLACK women. They really do.

Tonya's latest riddle: What if you have relatives who aren't deemed that way? What if the other dark-skinned girls and females are not considered that way? KOLA: What way? And why are you waiting for people who don't look like you to stand up and DO SOMETHING about what you should be doing yourself? I happen to AGREE with your points, Tonya. But don't get shitty and bitchy with us just because we can't read your fucking mind! And you done really crossed a fucking line with me, I'm going to let you know right now----because I really loved you. I didn't deserve that fucking shit.

You need to go find Yukio and Babygirl and play on your goddamned swing set and shut the fuck up with this riddle me this shit. Of course Phyllis Yvonne Stickney is fine as hell.....and because she's TOO AUTHENTIC.....they try to make her invisible, because they don't want their sons PROCREATING with her. Now that we could've talked about.

Yes, it was on this board. My "Fuck Jesus" speech to MOONSIGNS when I threatened to murder her "dalmations" (children). It's horrible. Somewhere in the archives I'm sure. I went through a bad period with MOONSIGNS where I wanted to beat the fuck out of her. I had just lost Thomas and I was drunk on Vodka that night.

Kola, Physically, while you may favor your mother, you still carry your father's DNA--and have passed that onto your boys. Consider this--say they marry an American, Black woman, who, down the line, has "mixed blood" somewhere as well. With your father being Arab and there being "mixed" blood on their spouses side as well, a recessive gene could definitely show up in your grandchildren or great-grandchildren. Even if they married a "pure" African, your father's DNA will always be present and could show up anywhere down the line.

I see what you're saying, MOON. Actually--I look like my father. Girl, I wish I had my mother's beautiful tiny cheekboned face. My mother's charcoal skin stopped me from looking "mixed" however. Only at the very roots of my hair can you tell something.

Cynique is absolutely on point regarding Europeans and features. Take for example, Nick Lachey (sp?)--Jessica's Simpson's husband (?!), I have a friend that thinks his "thick" nose makes him look like Shrek. And he is a straight "white boy" as far as I'm concerned--straight European stock. Not all Europeans have soft features. And not all Africans have wide, flat noses and full lips. I know this has been discussed here before, but I never jumped in (at least I don't think I did). Nevertheless, I want to share this. When it comes to "detecting" who is not American born, be it European or African, I think a person's mannerisms/behavior and fashion style are more of a giveaway than facial features/structure. In general, I think Europeans and Africans have a totally different fashion sense than Americans.

After viewing the above TIME magazine photo, I have to concede that Lauryn Hill's nose is very west African. I hadn't realize this until now. (I also didn't know her lips where that full; I knew they were thick, but not that luscious.) That said, I still think she's too thin (waif like) to represent true African-American female beauty, in it's totality, (without compromise) - IMO. Tonya |

I personally think that Gabrielle Union and Aisha Tyler are stunningly beautiful women. I think we as black people need to stop this light skinned and dark skinned thing. Black women are black no matter what there color is and they are all beautiful. It's not our fault that some of us have the slave masters features and some don't. |
