How yall doin. I'm in serious need of help. Writing is/was my life but I have been seriously blocked for a year and a half. Not one single legitimate piece of work. I keep fearing that I have lost the gift. What do yall do to get over the hump. Where is the magic pill? |

Hey, Sometimes the well of inspiration can run dry for writers. I think the cure to your block is to step away from writing for a while and take the time to rejuvenate your soul. This can be accomplished by doing something other than writing that you truly enjoy. Also, picking up a book by another writer can help inspire you to get back into it. I read a good poetry book that took me there. It is called "My Oath To... and is available on Amazon and cushcity .com. Try it out. The abilty to write is a gift that is never losted just buried once in a while. so pick up the shovel and start digging and eventually you will find your Gift again. Peace and blessings, Rhapsody from NYC. |

Be willing to write badly and just get something down. Anything at all. Eventually, you'll get sucked back into the page, and eventually after that, you'll get to the good stuff again. |

rhapsody is right. I don't believe in writer's block. I believe that you have writing muscles just like other muscles, and sometimes they are tired. Some writers believe in forcing it,sitting in front of the page until something comes. I believe if you can't write, you should go do something else until it comes back. This goes double for poetry. It is not uncommon for poets to go years between books--You cannot force it--well, you can, but the results are so pedestrian. This "block" may just be a sign that you should do some other kind of writing until the Muse comes back to visit you. |

I somewhat agree with you Chris but sometimes meditation helps because whatever is "blocking" your spirit needs to be dealt with before your creative energy can flow. I agree that sometimes the blockage can be mental or physical exhaustion. Generally speaking, finding that space where writing flows freely should not be forced, although sometimes writing can be painful... so examine the causes then make a decision as to whether you should let it lay and come back to it or force it out like the labor pains of giving birth to greatness... |

oh, by the way - i am feeling a little "blocked" right now! LOL but i am aware of what is causing it, so i am content to not write right now - assured that in the near future, when i get past this point in my life, i will pick up my pencil again... |
