To my baby love (letter to an unborn child)

Black mothers truly know tight fear.
Of running barefoot on blood- drenched
Stairs, and seeing coffins in dreams
Yet, you are in me and still
I ask Jah, how? How
Can I bring you into such a world?
Black boys never survive in the white mans’ world
Where aids, crack, and trees spread fear
And black Knights are spent, knowing how,
Turning you out, melanin, sun-drenched
Skin, taking me deep into a pool so still,
That nightmares keeps smiling within my dreams

We are born in desperation and chain-linked dreams
Tearing our hearts out to feed the worlds
Street corners, graveyards, and jail cells, still
That’s it? Pool stick, broom stick, 41 times one fear
Standing framed or running blood- drenched.
They, go back to the burbs, while we go to graves knowing how

Laughter can’t never render peace, realizing how
Ritalin is some fools answer, yet wrapped in dreams
I.C. U., pink and blue, and I stop. Waiting to be loved-drenched
And appreciated, living vital in this world.
Yet we play the game, feeding hungry monsters our fears
Hoping that escape will be there for you, still

Knowing that there is nothing but western sunrises, still
Imbued in true lies, land of the free, telling me how
I am free to be brave and end the fears
And the suffering of lost dreams
Tripping on gas fumed hopes for my world
While black babies crown malt-drenched

Cold flats with roaches for dinner, cum-drenched
Junkies giving blood and bearing still
Born crack heads, daring to gain insight to an alien world.
Selling missionary positions and head bobs, learning how
Unlicensed pharmacist mix medicinal dreams
Of souls creeping in darkness without fear.

Sweat-drenched dried to the bone tales of how,
Black survival is possible, still living that dream
In amerikkacs world, that, we, can, still-born,
Melanin babies. Without fear.

You should make this a short story Val Roberts.

It has lots of depth.

Now this is a good example of what I would call free verse using the poet's own original imagery and style. ABM should take note.
