Never in my life have I felt so disturbed.
Never have I been so absurd or perturbed.
Have you heard?
I'm in my home, alone, no dial tone on my phone.
No baby in the cradle, no soup in the ladle sitting on my table. I'm unable and unstable.
No corn on my cob. Don't have a job, too scared to rob. No door for my knob. No cotton swab. No apples to bob. Can't even get up enough emotion to sob. I never thought I'd see the day. How could I end up this way? How did I piss my life away? It seemed like yesterday, when I had a job with great pay. But I was just a paycheck away. Homeless and living day to day. You see my home is a box, my phone is just my socks. My cradle, table and ladle are images from my past. Those images don't last. They fade real fast. The only thing that I can count on is my woman. My woman is sound. My woman's name is Mis-fortune. And she'll always be around.

I may be unsophisticated but I have a weakness for poems that rhyme and, better still, was how you managed to avoid triteness in your piece. I loved it!

Without apology, I also liked it. See, If it don't rhyme, I ain't got time. When they use metaphors it only tightens the door to the ignorance that's stored, in my brain for sure. See, if it ain't out front, I don't want to hunt nor confront the truth that hurts me.....I am not that smart.

Yo woman will always be around as long as your perceptions allow yourself to stay down. When you' on 'da lowest ground, growth comes from realizing that the only other choice is up.. And dass wasup.

Oh yeah, I LOVED your piece, flowed so nicely and all. I've been inspired, so I guess I'll pick up my PEN and make it a POINT to get on the BALL.
*get it? "ball point pen". Ohhh alright, so it was a lil' wack. Leeme lone. :-( * lol

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the store.
I was on my way to work when they were laying the tile for the floor.
Later I was jogging when they hung the big glass door.
And I was there at the opening, the guest speaker was Al Gore.
First they hung the yellow sign.
And then they hired teens.
It was a ghetto grand opening.
With free soft drinks, fried chicken and greens.
Everyone was happy.
So everyone should be.
Here was a chance to get a job
right here in your own community.
Just what we needed in our strip mall.
To boost our neighborhood's worth.
We already had a Popeye's, a liquor store,
A strip joint, and a Woolworth.
All we ever needed was a Best Buy.
And now we got that, too.
All the VCR's, camcorders, and tv sets you want.
You can even get your cell phone in Navy Blue.
I'm going to see the manager and get my brother a job.
Since they just opened today. It's the only place he didn't rob.

I loved this piece is was REAL...I felt the feelings and rode with the flow. Nope...poems don't have to be complex with hidden metaphors...I like them accessible.
