I watched an episode of this show all the way through last night--first time. (I was a little nonplussed to find out it has been on about five years and this is the first time I deigned to watch it--but what do you expect from a "Highbrow Author" (my publisher's description) Anyway it had Saul Williams on it and featured a poetry open mike details http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/GuidePageServlet/showid-278/epid-207355 This was a long way from that episode of "What's Happenin' Now" where Raj was in a poetry contest Is poetry going mainstream--or at least more mainstream? Chris, Saul has been hooked up with an excellent publicist and management team for quite a while now. Saul also was tabbed a long while back as "the first voice of hip-hop poetry". He marches to the beat of a drum that tends to bang loudly in the main stream. He is probably no more of a sell out than anyone that has attempted to marry the art of entertainment with the elocution of poetry. Ohmmmmmm... |
