I am so disappointed that I wasn't able to hook up with all of the Thumper's Corner folks who were in town for the BEA convention being held in Chicago. Word was that they would be congregating around 10:30 PM at the hotel where the black editors banquet would be winding down. Unfortunately, my whole Saturday was taken up with graduation ceremonies and after-parties and by the time I was free to leave my suburban home and make it into Chicago for the purpose of tracking down my fellow posers, I couldn't find anybody who would go with me. (I've stopped driving on expressways at night, plus a certain "male relative" thought I needed to keep my butt home.) I was so sad, I just went into retreat and finished off a bottle of wine. Oh, well. I was with them in spirit... :-( |

Cynique, I was just about to ask you how that went. Well, maybe next time. I think it will be really neat to meet everyone face to face, don't you? |

You must be a glutton for punishment, Chris. There is enough if me to go around, however, because the idea of having boy toys expands me. |

And besides, I gotta feeling that that thing is going to be so good, I'm gonna want y'all to get some because I won't be able to describe it to you. |

Well, that settles it. I'll never be the bitch who represents the chauvinism of the Dogg. Sorry boys, I'll just have to restrict my toys to dildoes and vibrators. |

"One-on-one". Yeah, right. The only thing sexier than a bad girl who can effectively pretend to be good is a good girl who has been corrupted. So tell me, Cynique: Which of the 2 are you? |

For those who don't know...the entire weekend was simply on fire. I probably had one of the best times of my life. Thumper and Linda trashed my room at the Hilton. Thumper also took the liberty to raid my fridge for a $4 dollar bottle of water and then was trifling enough to "refill it" and put it back. Troy and Earl were too cool all weekend. Way to work the crowd y'all. My back was killing me but I still hung in there. I am sorry to say that I missed Zane's after party due to aching back, but never the less the whole weekend was one to be experienced. I learned a lot (Troy likes vodka and cranberry, Thumper is out of control (he really does expect writers to kneel to him when he walks in the room), Linda has all of the gossip, ALL OFF IT!!! I could go on and on, but then they would have to kill me. I would like to say that I could not have hung out with funnier, classier, and cooler people. I am now addicted to the Book Expositions and I am already making plans to be at the next one. If don't know, now you know!!! Best quote of the weekend: "We're down with www.aalbc.com, don't get it twisted!"

Hello All, Rondall: Now, you got a nerve. Mr. "I'm 28 miles away" and then shows up 12 hours later. *eyebrow raised* Rondall wrote: "he (Thumper) really does expect writers to kneel to him when he walks in the room" And the problem with that would be...*eyebrow raised* *LOL*

To Thumper: Obviously you are new to driving in Chicago's rush hour traffic. ESPECIALLY WITH CONSTRUCTION GOING ON!!! Nothin but love fa' ya. |

Lambd Slightly titled: having been given a name or title. (as in King of the peers) Belonging to the peerage. Peerage: The peers of a Kingdom considered a group. So you see there was a name given to someone by their group of peers. In this case we dubbed us a King for the night. *laughing* But don't get this twisted with tilted: which means--tore down, bent, intoxicated, swimming in the juice. LOL |

Lambd, I passed out with my glasses on. My boy Al (poet/author from Chicago) slept in one of the bathtubs (keep in mind this was a room with not only two beds but it also had two full bathrooms). LOL He said the tub looked bigger than normal, so he got in to “check it out” and woke up the next morning. I don't remember Linda or Thumper leaving the room. As a recap of who was what: Troy: titled aptly "Bandito Incognito" Thumper: sick and very twisted Linda: most definitely she was tilted Rondall: comfortably numb off of Godiva and rum. (yes that rhymed) Al from Chicago: "twilted up", an amalgamation of tilted and twisted. I can only assume that we will set upon next years Book Expo America like a swarm of literary locust. I believe that it will be in New York. Which should provide an extraordinary backdrop for everyone to come together. I find myself harping on the fun times but the expo is an incredible place to learn about the business aspects of literature. I might want to add that the events for African American attendees of the expo were beyond glorifying adjectives. One of my favorite treasures: the people of Chicago are blessed with one of the best Black Bookstores, not just African American, in nation/world (I am being a bit presumptuous here). One of my favorite treasures from the trip: the people of Chicago are blessed with one of the best Black Bookstores, not just African American, in nation/world (I am being a bit presumptuous here). Afrocentric Bookstore 4655 South King Drive Chicago , IL 60653 312-939-1956 Owned by Desiree Sanders To some up my impression of this place in a word..."Damn". My mecca, nuff said. Anyway, I could go on and on, but suffice to say that I will be in New York next year, even if I do violate my parole. LOL
