Giiiirl, I'm at the heart of your book and daaaayuuuuuummmmmm!!! You said you were gonna come raw, but gottdaaaayuuuummmm!!! This book is off the hook...do you hear me??? It's the first of it's kind. Don't get me wrong, Morrison, Walker, Thurman and others were pioneers, yes.. and it's because of them that you are even possible, that too.. but nobody.. I mean nobody.. has come close to what you've done with this book. It's completely honest.. completely raw.. and it's beyond revolutionary. And, girl, you were not lying when you said you'd have to go into hiding after this book. Half of black America is pissed at you! LOOOOOL This book is the bomb Kola.. explosive! |

Told ya. Where are you at? Past page 300? My favorite chapter was the one about Kola and her kid's dad. I cried and read that three times.

Beautifully written, so clear and concise, and not at all pretentious. She's one of the few writers who can actually make you feel like you're right there eating the same food, seeing the same clouds, etc. Those who dislike her are going to dislike her even more, and those who have helped her are going to feel honored that she thanked them in such a public manner. But I must say that this is story is HAD TO BE TOLD even if it only happened to one person. I'm pretty sure that parts of this is the story of thousands of African orphans, if not more. IT HAS TO BE TOLD. |

Is it possible that you all could start a fan club away from the board and not ram this woman down our throats? I'm so sick of her I couldn't possibly leaf through a whole book about her.

This is where the fan club meets. Could you possibly just not read things you're sick of reading to begin with? |

I agree LiLi.... And I also think "Authentic Black Man" should become a famous essay one day.. sooner than later. That essay brought ME to my knees. Powerful. |

LILI---hello sister, I've been missing you. And thanks so much Tonya, your praise and acknowledgement means so much to me. Thank you so much. I was on radio in Buffalo today and the local Black men's group offered to fly me there to speak in person. I am getting so many black men responding with understanding and acceptance. The host (Pat Freeman) called my book the best that he's read in years. I am not selling enough copies to hit the New York Times list or even Essence.....but I am selling stronger than any book in my career has ever sold---at least 20 copies a day. The second printing was 10,000 copies with the first printing of 5,000 sold out before the release date. And that's very gratifying. I am breaking through "politically" with this book. And my next one is from the nation's largest publisher, so it's a wonderful time for me.
