An interesting scientific tool used on the show is a DNA technique called "admixture mapping," which breaks down how much African, European, Native American and Asian blood is in each person.
Winfrey, for instance, is 89 percent African, 8 percent Native American and 3 percent Asian. Tucker is 7 percent European, 10 percent Native American and 83 percent African. Jones is 34 percent European.---AND WHO KNOWS WHAT IS IN OSAMA!!!!!
Ironically, of all the members of the group Gates himself had the least amount of African blood: He's 50 percent European.

That means nothing Mrs. Hart most of us AA's know that we are mixed. It is the mixture that has created the diversity in our culture. Thats not the point. The point how we act as a culture,treat ourselves, and view ourselves. |

If Jones is 34% European, who knows that the hell % Kola Boof is.
That there are more Africans in Africa is common sense.
That there is a high percentage of mixed-Black Americans is not an original thought.
That Black, Whites, Native Americans, and Asians and others mixed--IS A FACT AS OLD AS THE HILLS.

I would still consider 89% to be authentic black.
And I still go by the African standard--not by this TEST or the Slave Plantation standard.
The African standard being that "regardless" what blood you have...those who LOOK the blackest are the most authentic.
African hair and dark luscious skin and Negroid OR Nilotic facial features are the proof of blackness.
Oprah, even at 89%, is authentic.

Kola Boof has Arab/Turkish blood.
But because of my charcoal mother, I am authentic BLACK.
MEANING...I don't look mixed.
So the admixture doesn't matter in my case.

I can count three separate African tribes in the face (forehead, ears, cheeks and clavicle area) of Henry Louis Gates.
He comes from GHANA. The tribes show.
He's authentic black.

Notice how they didn't do DNA test on ppl like lets say Halle Berry, Alicia Keyes, Mariah(black when it's convenient Carey), and Vanessa Williams. I wonder what there test would have revealed. |

To me, that 'degrees of authenticty' idea seems a little odd.But then, growing up in the south did lend a certain clarity to the issue for me.You just listen to the redneck. I'm just being honest with you, Rustang.
I don't mean to sound snide.
But just because WHITE PEOPLE think that Mariah Carey is "black"----doesn't change the fact that I, out of politeness, only pretend to see her as black. To me, she is not even a mulatto.
That's what we're talking about. The fact that I see a Black Man when I see Henry Gates, regardless of his 50% Europa blood. But I don't see a black person when I see Mariah or Vin Diesel, the mixture is dominating.

I saw him on t.v. speaking and he looked black me.
Blacker than Harry Belafonte, who is obviously a mulatto.

You need some glasses, kola-nut. Apparently you see with your emotions not your eyes. Harry Belafonte is not a mulatto. And you and your drones need a reality check. Do you actually think that anybody other than a small percentage of wanna-be "authentic" black folks really care about all of this who-is-what crap. And you act like what you are griping about is revolutionary. Small vocal groups have been claiming what you rant about for at least a hundred years but the majority of black people prefer to see themselves as American primarily and African incidentally, and those who don't feel like this, go live in Africa which is what you and your tribe of breast-beaters need to do so you'll be happy. |

Welllllll, curiosity is one thing and satisfaction is not synonymous with revolt. I, myself, would be curious to see the breakdown of my DNA. Once I saw it, however, it would just reinformce my personal philosphy that I am what I am. And I am confident that, at this stage of my life, nobody really gives a damn what I am. |

It is a fairly simple test to take for those of you who are really interested. For example, thru the Nat'l Geographic Genographic Project all you need is 99 bucks and they'll send you a kit to swab the inside of your cheek. The genetics behind it are a little more complex to interpret if you are looking to find out if you are "X-percent" some "race" or another. I am not familiar with the admixture technique, but for the haplotype mapping techniques I have read about, you only get information from one side of your family tree (males, from the Y-side, and females from mithochondrial [spl?] DNA).
