"I Really Feel Duped" Oprah Winfrey Oprah, who do you think you are kidding? At first you protected your investment and defended serial liar James Frey, but when it became obvious that your staff and possibly you were aware of the nature of one of the lies, you back tracked. A former staffer at Hazelden, the rehab facility that Frey described in his book, says that she told Oprah's producers that Frey's accounts were lies. Oprah went ahead with her promotion of Frey's book anyway, knowing a besteller when she saw one. In my Black Commentator column last week I said that Oprah should be seen for what she is, a business woman. She isn't a shrink, or a spiritual leader. She sells a feel good product and that is OK, but no one should be fooled by her claims of promoting our best selves. No one should now be fooled by her crocodile tears. Oprah may not be a spiritual leader, but she is beginning to show signs of being a cult leader. Her viewer/followers backed her initial defense of Frey. What will they say now? If they go from felling OK to feeling duped too, Oprah should confirm the rumors and become a Scientologist. She is in a cult of her own making already. |

I totally agree. Oprah is so full of herself that she thinks she can do no wrong. And the real message of her second interview with Frey was to tell the world that if you mess with Oprah, she will crush you. But a backlash is looming on the horizon and in time Oprah is going to be as demonized as she is worshipped. |

Oprah is such a poor little rich girl. So out of touch with reality. That's the second time she's been duped in recent memory. She got played by Hermes as well. Here she had given them all this massive free publicity by featuring their wares in her magazine ("Tea tastes so much better when it's served in a pretty cup") and by buying all their overpriced status symbol fashion accessories, and then she experienced that "Crash" moment when they wouldn't let her in their Paris store because they didn't recognize it was "Oprah" - thought it was just a regular Black person that they didn't want in their establishment. Yes, they apologized and maybe she visits their shops again but they probably wipe down the counters with Lysol as soon as she's out the door. Hey Oprah! Don't promote companies that treat Black people and our dollars with such obvious disdain. As far as the book club goes, if she suggests her favorites and people want to run out or log on and buy that stuff, that's fine with me. But I abhor it when she makes statements like "If you don't read this book your entire life will be worthless and meaningless" as if I need her to tell me what to read and what to think. I can make my own decisions as to what I'm interested in reading and it sure isn't any of her recommendations. I think she is to be commended for her accomplishments and for the wealth that she has amassed, but she doesn't even have sense enough to discern fact from fiction. Maybe people will stop taking her so seriously now. |

They started jacking her up in the emails was what I heard was responsible for her moral turn. I am still waiting on her to apologize to the black community. |

I don't have the several days it will take to answer your question in detail. I'm sure you can think of something yourself. |
